Smurf
It's all relative - what do you want to achieve with your game. That processor could be sluggish with lots of leagues loaded and a large database. But it would be ok on a small amount of leagues and small database. The hard drive is very slow - so saving games will take longer and also loading them. The longer your career, the larger the database gets (more players, histories etc.) and therefore the larger the file size. A slow hard drive will be slower, the next one up is c.7000rpm and the next sped up is c.10000rpm - after that there are SSDs which are superfast. Are you looking for 3d graphics - low - medium - or lots of detail?
chargreaves
Afternoon people, how are the core m5y10 processors at handling FM? I'm considering a laptop, it's coupled with 8GB RAM.
nathcart
Graphics is not really an issue low - medium. But would like the processor to be quick, and a laptop that will be able to run FM and run smoothly for a few years. Originally was looking at a budget of £500 - £700, but willing to pay abit more if it means i'm getting my moneys worth and gonna last me years. You get what you pay for I suppose Cheers

nathcart
It's not bad - but £900 I think you can do better. The specification below has been formatted so you can easily copy and paste this to our forums when discussing your specification. Once you've copied the specification, pleaseclick here to continue. Chassis & Display Cosmos Series: 17.3" Matte Full HD LED Widescreen (1920x1080) Intel® Core™ i7 Quad Core Processor 6700HQ (2.6GHz, 3.5GHz Turbo) 16GB Kingston SODIMM DDR3 1600MHz (2 x 8GB) NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 940M - 2.0GB DDR3 Video RAM - DirectX® 12 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD, SATA 6Gb/s (upto 540MB/sR | 520MB/sW) 8x SATA DVD±R/RW/Dual Layer (+ 24x CD-RW) Thermal Paste ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND (£9) Price: £815.00 including VAT and delivery. Unique URL to re-configure: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/quotes/cosmosIV-17/qjmIabEwz6/ So it's a large screen like originally quoted. This has the latest processor - so it's more modern giving it longevity. Now - the processor you posted the 4720HQ - this model is a faster processor in turbo speed (it's a 2.6ghz but under certain conditions it can go maximum of 3.6ghz), that being said the newer processor can get close to this at 3.5ghz - which is nothing to compare really - to me they're identical. The graphics processing on the older model processor is faster, by 50mhz - which for me is nothing. However, the newer processor is built under new architecture which it allows to stay cool for longer periods of time - and this is where it will outperform the other processor - the longer the game goes on, especially journeyman saves - the more data it produces, the more data means that there's more processing - and more processing means your CPU (computer processor unit) will get hotter. The hotter it gets the more it throttles to a lower gear. The cooler it can remain means that it will perform faster under extreme processing challenges - which is perfect for FM. The atctic thermal paste will help with the above too. I chose the 940m Graphics card because it's more than enough for FM - you are welcome to change this the 950m - but there won't be much difference for FM. There's 250gb EVO SSD - fantastic for loading and saving your Journey man saves - again up this to 500gb if you want - but if I were you buy an external flash drive. I got a 128gb USB 3.0 for very little - something like this http://www.mymemory.ie/USB-Flash-Drives/MyMemory/MyMemory-128GB-USB-3.0-Flash-Drive---Red There no option to remove the CD RW - but you can upgrade this to blu ray - or just leave it if you don't use dvds/cds then it's probably not something you want to add extra costs on. looking back at advice you've given smurf, which ones better? http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/CB-CP7860-1010SN-Cube-Chameleon-CP-7860_1811148.html You advised this one, but at £15 between the 2? Matspur
Why not just post it here? Sorry no reason. OK seen this now I'm not sure if its better or not then the one you posted it has come up on sale. I read someone post about ssd being better then hdd on the previous page and you have a few posts up. With regards to the one you posted for me graphics are not that important. I would mostly be playing on 2d occasionally going 3d to to try and make my tactics better, or see if it gives me a better view of what the opponents are doing. Most important things would be flexibility in terms of game size and game speed. Anyway the one I found http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NX.MSQEK.026-Acer-Aspire-V3-572G-in-White_1846766.html
Smurf
If it's SSD and not worried about graphics I recommend this one http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/N0Z48ESABU-HP-ProBook-450-G2_1868143.html The SSD will load and save your game faster, won't really have an effect on the performance of the game. The above has a slightly better processor and an SSD.

I have a budget of £500 Amount of a leagues/clubs. as many as possible as PC runs all leagues. Are 3d graphics important? Maybe but having a quicker machine is more important What other tasks do you do when playing FM? . internet Is game speed essential? Yes Fast load and save times? Not really Screen size important? at least 15 Does it need to be portable (light) or do you want it as a desktop replacement (heavier and not ideal for carrying around but ok for situated in your house a various locations (bedroom, sitting room etc.) - Not really it more or less live in one place I have seen this http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/80EC005CUK-Lenovo-Z50-75-in-Black_1736606.html and this http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/CB-CZ5840-1010SP-Cube-Chameleon-CZ-5840_1811157.html and am not sure if the Lenovo is good enough so am looking for in between. Toonarmyfc
Thanks guys (Smurf in particular) for all of your input and advice to new laptop purchasing. I think I usually load approx. 4-6 different nations, large database and like as high graphics as possible. However, I wouldn't recommend having more than a mid-range of leagues/nations and medium database. But it's up to you to find the balance. The longer you play the game the larger the database and the larger the amount of data to process. So the more leauges and database size you have loaded, over time the longer it takes to process. thomit
The Dell XPS 13 is among the best of the current line-up of "ultrabooks", together with the Asus Zenbook UX305 CA and the Apple MacBook 12 inch'er. They're all rather expensive though, for what hardware you get. Go with the 1920x1080 IPS screen, and not the 4k screen; it's rather pointless on a 13 inch screen, you save some money, you gain much battery time, and you avoid some scaling problems. Just be aware that you can get the same performance or better for much less money than you'll have to pay for any of these mentioned. The processors in more "normal" laptops are more powerful than they are in the ultrabook versions. An i7 XXXXU is not the same as an i7 XXXXHQ, etc.
