Soninho Posted December 28, 2015 Share Posted December 28, 2015 Hi guys! Seen some great responses and very helpful people here so I'm going to give it a go.. Not in a hurry to buy laptop but found this on sale today and wanted to ask how it would run FM16. Not picky at all with graphics, (will run 2d if necessary), but want to load a decent amount of leagues. - 13.3"", FHD - intel i5 6200U(2,3-2,8GHz) - intel HD 520 - 8GB(4GB on board + 4GB) - 128GB SSD SATA - no ODD - 802.11AC - VGA - BT4.0 - 2x USB 2.0 - 1x USB 3.0 - 38WHrs, 2S1P, 2-cell Li-ion Polymer Battery Pack - win10 64bit" Thanks for advice! beng444 Posted December 28, 2015 Share Posted December 28, 2015 Amount of a leagues/clubs, Large database, usually only load and play in England. Are 3d graphics important? Nope. What other tasks do you do when playing FM? I don't play other games, generally surf the web/emails, want to move away from chromebooks /notebooks Is game speed essential? I want a "good" FM experience Fast load and save times? The faster the better. Screen size important? Not bothered. Does it need to be portable: Not bothered. Where are you in the world and where do you usually buy from online. Based in the UK. Tesco or Argos have been the only websites I've properly looked at. Max budget is probably £300, if possible. Have seen a lot of laptops on here but many are way out of a uni students budget! Any feedback is appreciated! Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Welshace Posted December 28, 2015 Share Posted December 28, 2015 Your budget is restrictive when looking to play fm with a large database etc. but this one is pretty damn good for the price: http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/P5S40ESABU-HP-ProBook-450-G2_1884970.html Waiting for the January sales to begin or getting a refurbished laptop might be your best bet tbh Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Welshace Posted December 28, 2015 Share Posted December 28, 2015 Might be useful to know that broadly speaking, even upping your budget to £400 would make a vast difference in the choices available.. Having been in the same situation as yourself not that long ago, I understand that's easier said than done but still.. might be worth staying in a few nights in freshers week for Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I am working a lot whilst I'm home so by the end of the hols I should be able to up my budget somewhat. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
amb2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Share Posted December 29, 2015 Hi everyone I just wanted to know if my current Macbook Pro is able to run FM16 The details for my mac is: MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011) Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB I only play in England and only run 2D graphics. Welshace Posted December 29, 2015 Share Posted December 29, 2015 Hi amb, Technically speaking, it should run a few leagues fine, although it is known FM tends to push macs in particular quite hard as they still aren't quite up to par, gaming wise, so I would suggest downloading the demo first and seeing how it handles it. JB1979 Posted December 29, 2015 Share Posted December 29, 2015 Hi, has anyone any experience using PC Specialist? Attracted to buying from there due to the promise of no bloatware. I would only play FM Touch/Classic probably max 6 leagues and medium database, tend to use 2D and happy with low level detail 3D - looking for something around £500 and screen 15.6 inch. Thanks. Welshace Posted December 29, 2015 Share Posted December 29, 2015 Use PC Specialist on a regular basis.. they are great JB .. only ever had a few niggles with orders, and always sorted out promptly. I'd look at something like this: Genesis Series: 15.6" Matte HD LED 16:9 Widescreen (1366x768)
<tbody>

</tbody>

<tbody>

Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™ i5 Dual Core Processor i5-6200U (2.30GHz, 2.8GHz Turbo)

Memory (RAM) 8GB Kingston SODIMM DDR3 1600MHz (1 x 8GB)

Graphics Card Integrated Intel® HD Graphics

Memory - Hard Disk 500GB SEAGATE HYBRID SSHD Drive, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE (5400 rpm)
</tbody>
Comes in at £496 ... Hywel Posted December 29, 2015 Share Posted December 29, 2015 Hi, how important is the graphics card for FM16 compared to the RAM? As I can get this http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/7559-8045-Dell-Inspiron-15-7000_1856981.html but it has no SSD which I would like, whereas for less I could get this with more RAM and an SSD http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/m/p/1858924 Thanks in advance. Matt1887 Posted December 29, 2015 Share Posted December 29, 2015 Hey everyone. I've had an ASUS X52JT for the last five years and the time has come to upgrade. So I'm after a laptop that's similiar, if not with better specs than my current one. I've been very happy with ASUS, so I'm happy to stick with them although any reliable brand would be great. 1. Amount of a leagues/clubs 4-8 leagues, large database 2. Are 3d graphics important? Nope 3. What other tasks do you do when playing FM? Web browsing, watch TV shows & films on VLC player, listen to music, watch football on SkyGo etc 4. Is game speed essential? Reasonably fast 5. Fast load and save times? Again, reasonably fast would be great 6.Screen size important? Y/N If yes, what screen size would you prefer? 15-17 inches. Lower than 15 would be too small and higher than 17 would be too big 7.Does it need to be portable (light) or do you want it as a desktop replacement (heavier and not ideal for carrying around but ok for situated in your house a various locations (bedroom, sitting room etc.) Something around the middle. Not heavy like a replacement desktop and not light like a portable. 8.Where are you in the world and where do you usually buy from online? Germany and I usually buy from either amazon.de or mediamarkt.de (if you need help with translating, give me a shout) Budget: €500-€850 I've already had a glance through amazon and already filtered these laptops, just not sure if they're suitable for FM and my other laptop tasks ... http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=sr_nr_p_n_feature_seven_br_3?fst=as%3Aoff&rh=n%3A340843031%2Cn%3A!340844031%2Cn%3A427957031%2Cp_n_style_browse-bin%3A392618011%2Cp_n_feature_fifteen_browse-bin%3A8321955031%2Cp_n_feature_browse-bin%3A1478227031%2Cp_n_feature_eleven_browse-bin%3A7472560031%2Cp_n_feature_seven_browse-bin%3A8321977031&bbn=427957031&ie=UTF8&qid=1451404394&rnid=8321966031 Thanks in advance Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Welshace Posted December 29, 2015 Share Posted December 29, 2015 Hey, any of those on your link would be a good upgrade on your current system, I don't know the german market very well these days.. but basically... A recent generation i5 is perfect, 8 gb ram minimum, decent speed hdd is good ( I like hybrid drives myself).. a dedicated graphics card would be beneficial but not essential. Is Hybrid better then? Which graphics card do you think is the most dedicated? What about brand name? Does that matter? There are some Medion and Lenovo that look good but not sure what their reputation is. Or should I just stick with ASUS? Despite not really knowing the German market, is there any chance you could have a quick browse on the link anyway? The specs filter on the left is easy enough to figure out although I could help with translating Apologies about the rapid-fire questions Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

From experience I would pick something other than Lenovo if you have the chance. Also when it comes to harddrive a hdd is slower than SSD and this affects loading speeds etc. A hybrid is good but there the SSD is usually pretty small if you don't want to spend big bucks. A SSD disk only (prefered 128gb min), is a little more expensive than traditional hdd but imo worth it! Your ram is ok. Graphics card ok. In Sweden a computer with SSD, 8GB ram, geforce, i5 around 2.3ghz is around 600 euros.. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Earlier in this thread it was mentioned that we should avoid it at all costs. Is that really the case and if so, what would be a good alternative? Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Welshace Posted December 29, 2015 Share Posted December 29, 2015 Basically, any dedicated card is good for FM use... I prefer Hybrids for casual users as they combine the boot speed of SSD's (how quickly you can load up the laptop etc) and the space of HDD's without the cost.. That being said, If you don't need a whole lot of space, you can get a full blown SSD with about 256gb space within your budget.. This one for instance is at the top end of your budget but had everything you need and will do everything you ask.. I've not had issues with Lenovo's for years... in fact my girlfriend has had 3 in a row now and loves them. http://www.amazon.de/Lenovo-Z51-70-Multimedia-Notebook-schwarz/dp/B00ZI45XV4/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1451422264&sr=1-2 Yes the U processors aren't ideal, but the 5200u is a newish generation i5 and for your casual use.. it's perfect. When I said avoid them if possible it was just a warning not to compare them to fully capable non U based i5/i7's that aren't ultra low powered. On your budget, from those websites, the 5200u is great for what you require. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Lobaeux4 Posted December 30, 2015 Share Posted December 30, 2015 Hi everyoneI just wanted to know if my current Macbook Pro is able to run FM16 The details for my mac is: MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011) Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB I only play in England and only run 2D graphics. Will FM16 work on my mac? Thanks I was running FM16 on my MacBook Pro 15-inch, 2GB of RAM, mid-2007, although it was slow. I had to run 3D on medium setting and about every fourth match the computer would crash. I would just restart and continue, forced me to save the game before each match. My new MacBook arrives tomorrow, pretty excited about it. Update: my new MacBook Pro rocks FM16! Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Welshace Posted December 30, 2015 Share Posted December 30, 2015 Both will run it great.. the more expensive one is an older model now and pretty over priced tbh... The second cheaper one has a great CPU and is only lacking the graphics card and ssd, which if you aren't too bothered, it's great.. That being said, for FM use, you could spend significantly less and still play fm at a decent speed. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Welshace Posted December 30, 2015 Share Posted December 30, 2015 How many leagues? how big a database? what else do you need it for? But yes, for fm use, it's more than capable... the lack of graphics card might mean not running on full detail but it should be ok. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
luke4387 Posted December 30, 2015 Share Posted December 30, 2015 What would the SSD and graphics card add? I'm not good with computers! I want a good 3D match engine in detail, able to load 50-60k amount of players and run quickly. Would the cheaper laptop be able to do match what I am after? Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Welshace Posted December 30, 2015 Share Posted December 30, 2015 SSD's will make saving and loading in the game quicker, but not the general day to day processing in the game... In general and SSD will mean faster booting up of windows etc. A graphics card will mean being able to watch the 3d matches in higher detail and general graphical performance improvements across the board. For fm.. not really a huge issue for either and both are more for convenience than anything. The cheaper one will run fm great yes... Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
luke4387 Posted December 30, 2015 Share Posted December 30, 2015 Welshace thank you for your help. I have no clue about this type of stuff! Smurf Posted December 30, 2015 Share Posted December 30, 2015 Slow hard drive (load and save games will be slow - the longer your career the larger the file size, the longer it takes to load). AMD A8 7410 is an entry level processor - it will probably be ok for a small amount of leagues, and a small-medium database. Radeon R5 M330 - low end graphics card - play on low 3d detail. ------> will be good enough to play fm 16 and future editions?thanks in advance Probably not - it's a low end laptop and won't have great longevity. I'm not really that knowledgable of laptops so any help will be much appreciated. The ram of the laptop is 4GB and the hard drive space is 500GB cheers.
