kandersson
Really like the look of the new Beowulf press tactics. I notice centre-backs are scoring quite a lot, might as well try to put the striker in their place on set pieces just to try to boost his tally! knap
Not looked at stats but maybe the AI are so defensive the number of corners given away are high.

kandersson
Yeah I think having many more corners than AI has been a common pattern in recent FM's, though I feel this year they're consistently converted at a higher rate. Maybe not a bug a la FM12 but certainly a much higher rate than last 3-4 years.
zlatanera
For a Corner to be recorded in the "assist type" part of analysis in the tactics screen, it has to be scored direct from it i.e. the first guy to touch it in the box scores, right? Like if the corner is headed back across the goal then finished, that wouldn't count as a corner assist? Because if that's the case I've scored something like 30 in a season from Corners...either way, I've noticed a lot and I'm playing as River Plate, so sort of similar in terms of reputation vs the rest of the teams in my league to Man Utd. mersk
Yeah corners are definitely OP so far, will probably (hopefully) be patched soon. I also find the match engine rather boring overall so far. There's far too much long passes regardless of instructions, and it seems to favour counter-attacking far more than possession based, controlled, patient attacking (think prime Barca). It results in rather boring matches imo, with your central defenders high on the top scoring lists. My top scorers so far in January: Firmino (14 goals in 25 matches) Fabinho (12 goals in 27 matches) Joe Gomez (8 goals in 22 matches) Salah (7 goals in 24 matches) van Dijk (5 goals in 13 matches Not exactly scintillating numbers. I'm comfortably top of the league and currently on a 10 game win streak, but the play is such a snoozefest.

bredbin
I've used this for 3/4 of a season with Crystal Palace (2nd Season), sitting in 8th place with 6 games left. I've found that I concede a lot of goals, generally over the top straight balls. I conceded 7 at home to Arsenal and I've conceded 3+ goals 8 times. My CBs are Mamadou Sakho and Rob Holding. knap
In general balls over the top are a ME Problem (IMO worst ME ever)0. The Press tactics use a very high D/L so will not help with this aspect. For underdog teams I still recommend the Volante Anchor type tactics which have a normal DL. RDF Tactics
CRAZT TACTIC!!!!! UNBEATEN WITH NOT THE BEST NAPOLI TEAM!!! in january, you can see i sold Mertens, Callejon, Ghoulam and a couple back up players which left my team very light with no back ups so made not losing very difficult. I sold them after the italian transfer window closed so i couldnt replace but rebuilding in summer

cadchee
Best 4231 Wide tactic I have used on this FM version, beautiful fooball and crazy player stats! Douglas Costa was injured for about 2.5 months otherwise he would have better stats but i'm still happy with 37 assists in 40 matches (80% of assists from corners). I think having one of your IFs taking corners is more effective than your best corner taker. Having a defender scoring 16 goals per season is absolutely crazy, I have Rugani (15 goals in 44 matches) De Ligt (16 goals in 43 matches) Bonucci (6 goals in 25 matches) Thank you for your work knap, you're genius! knap
Not a must have but if a player has a preference to cut in from 1 wing then that over rides footedness. With IF s they tend to be opposite feet but again I don't think this is a must have. If I have a choice of a quality player to one that has the right foot for role, then I would play the quality player. Also change them around during match and see what works best. dracon
Hi, Knap. I began building a tactic by myself, and finally got good results. I came to the same conclusion, extreme press and high lines tend to work very well. My main problem is, of course, straight passes over my defenders. My tactic is a 433, but since I am playing with the Spurs, I wanted to get the most out of Kane and Delle, so I was thinking about a 4231 as this tactic of yours. The main problem for me is to decide the role for these two players, do you think they fit with these ones you are using here? I have tried everything for Kane, but I can´t get him to score... Fletch74
Knap. Hi. First dip into FM19. I am playing Beowulf Press 4231 with Sevilla (a sub top side?) as my home formation and its unbeaten, but struggle to win away from home. Any ideas on an alternative? Thought about Beowulf Press 451? Or perhaps Pilgrimage 451? Want something that means I don't have to swap too many player roles around to keep consistency. My wide men also seem to score more than my forwards. Is that normal? knap
Man City Arsenal and Spurs with BEOWULF Press 4231, so for a top side I would still use the 4231 Away.
