Alasdair Shaw's Programme Notes Thursday 04/03/04

DEFENSE POSTED AWOL AS ELGIN TAKE A BATTERING

Dear Supporters,

With the transfer window still open a few players have moved on to other clubs. Simon Allan (Huntly), Tom Courts (Whitehill Welfare), Michael MacGregor (Ossett Town) and Jon Thompson (Tarff Rovers) have all left us and we wish them well.

TENNENTS SCOTTISH CUP 3RD ROUND – CLYDE – BORROUGH BRIGGS – SAT 10/01/04 – DRAW 0-0

We started well in what was a mouth watering tie against First Division side Clyde. However the game dragged on as a dull encounter and neither side was able to make a breakthrough. However a replay would give us the chance to vanquish this foe as well as earning some extra cash.

TENNENTS SCOTTISH CUP 3RD ROUND REPLAY – CLYDE – BROADWOOD STADIUM – WED 14/01/04 – WIN 5-3

After the poor display against Clyde a few days earlier, both sets of fans were treated to an eight goal thriller in the replay.

Goals from Meinsing and Smith gave Clyde an early advantage, but McStay blasted home to cap a well worked move and Clague rose to head in an equaliser.

We took the lead when McStay’s shot from 20 yards was deflected past the keeper and into the net by Clague, however Carella made it 3-3 at half time when he slipped into the 6 yard area to make things level.

Our performance dropped in the second half and we were sent crashing out of the cup when Keogh and Smith both scored to kill the tie. It means we’ve got to concentrate entirely on the league for the rest of the season and hope that we can push for a top half finish.

BELLS SCOTTISH THIRD DIVISION – STRANRAER – BORROUGH BRIGGS – SAT 17/01/04 – DRAW 2-2

Stranraer have had a good season thus far, but we welcomed them in the knowledge that the team with the league’s best form was Elgin. The visitors got off to the better start, with Grant then Slade giving them a two goal lead. However Wingate’s own goal gave us a lifeline and we battled back to grab a point when Snodin snuck in to find a leveller.

BELLS SCOTTISH THIRD DIVISION – STIRLING – FORTHBANK STADIUM – WED 21/01/04 – DEFEAT 6-0

There was nothing short of a horror show on display as the players failed to rise to anything at Forthbank. McLean opened the scoring and then pounced again to put us two down in the opening 5 minutes.

A scramble from a corner kick let Napoli make it three and Elliot headed home later on to kill any hopes of a comeback. Some shocking passing saw us give away possession and let Elliot strike again and McLean rubbed salt into our wounds by grabbing a sixth goal at the end.

It was a truly disgraceful performance and I must apologise to our fans that made the journey to witness it.

BELLS SCOTTISH THIRD DIVISION – MONTROSE – LINKS PARK – SAT 24/01/04 – DEFEAT 5-0

Sadly we failed to learn the lessons of the Stirling game in time for our trip to league leaders Montrose, a fixture that I must confess to dreading.

Indeed, my fears were justified as Wood blasted home after just a minute of play. Gibson then found the net from 25 yards and when Wood scored again, we found ourselves three goals down within the opening 20 minutes.

Things didn’t get any better in the second half as Shandran and McAvoy both headed in goals to leave us humiliated and dejected.

We must do something to stop the flood of goals we are conceding if we are to achieve our aim of finishing in the top half of the table. I’ll be looking for an immediate improvement in our next game and the players must start to perform consistently at a better level if their futures at Elgin are to be assured.

Thanks for your support.

Gretna today announced that Gary Toner II will be take over the reigns at Raydale Park as the new manager, they stated that after half a season and sitting rock bottom that a new manager was needed one with new ideas and a fresh approach to be one of the main reasons over the managerial change and see Toner as the man to lead them off the bottom of the league.

Toner stated "It was a honour to be at Raydale Park and echo'd the boards feelings, however he also stated that this season will be tough and but its realistic to expect a mid table finish even though the club have only won 2 games before i took over."

Toner went on to talk about the clubs current finacial situation and mentioned "In the current climate we will not be looking at adding to many players but one or two new faces are a firm possibilty."

Fans of the 3rd division side were slighty sceptical about the appointment of the realitve unknown but will give the new manager their full backing.

Toner's first piece of buisness was to re-sign the clubs cult hero Martin Cameron for a fee said to be in the region of £14k along with French striker Jean Michel Sigere.

Despite two close games which i felt we were unlucky not to get anything from it seemed everything clicked in the Queens Park game, everyone from the goalkeeper to the forwards played their part and it lead to a comfortable win which see's us 2 points behind Cowdenbeath so with some consistency and a few more wins i'm hopeful we will be able to pull ourselfs off the bottom of the league and start making progress up the league table.

Brazils Boss on Secret Scouting Mission

Brazils boss was unable to complete Thursday night’s session due to a covert scouting mission south of the border. But before he left he took in the game against QUEENS PARK, the brazils were soon down to 10 men but battled on impressively and if it were not for a soft 3rd goal would have taken all three points

On the transfer front Duke reluctantly let Joe gold to Forfar for 10K and Billy Gibson in exchange, with no hope of winning the league this season thoughts must go to strengthening the squad for next season.

Scottish Cup 4th Round

Airdrie Utd 2 - 0 Brechin City

This wasnt even a contest. The gulf in divisions almost didnt exist, as the quality of the Airdrie wingers, coupled with Emilio Jaconelli raising his game for the big match , saw a 2-0 half time lead , the first a rebound from a Huckerby screamer, the second a near post header from a Lambu cross. The 2nd half should have seen a Brechin turnaround , but instead , 2 minutes in , David Dunn cracked the crossbar with a 25yd free kick, and set the tone for the remainder of the game. A couple of Brechin long range shots which were off target , and then the killer third , Dunn getting free in the area to knock down a long ball, into the path of Alan Gow. The youngsters first strike was brilliantly saved at the near post by the keeper , but he hammered home the rebound to kill the tie. With no Forfar in the 5th round, the chances of a decent Old Firm draw have never been higher.

Alas , Celtic lose a man and go out away to Dunfermline. Now a run all the way to the Cup Final is the only way for Airdrie to make any serious money .....

Dumbarton 1 - 1 Airdrie United

Its an odd match this one. Dumbarton have some early dominance but fail to convert, and then Airdrie have a spell of 15 minutes where every shot is on target and saved by a brilliant goalkeeper. However as the second half opens , so does the Dumbarton defence , and a mixup between the centre backs allows Alan Gow in to strike. Dumbarton however, under new manager Redmond, who jumps ship from Arbroath in order to keep his failing repuatation intact, storm back, a 25 yarder from Rantanen equalling the scores and a point apiece is a deserved result.

Airdrie United 1 - 1 Berwick Rangers

This was not the performance you expect of champions. Looking tired and jaded after recent games, the team simply did not perform to its capability. An Alan Gow strike in 42 minutes seemed to set the pattern, and when shot after shot went in towards the Berwick goal, you felt it was only a matter of time. However as the game wore on, the legs tired, and Berwick came back into it. A run down the wing from Smith and cutback to an unmarked Chris Love saw Berwick draw level with a thunderous 20 yard drive, and with results elsewhere favouring the promotion rivals , Airdrie were down to 3rd , and Forfar were top.

Airdrie United 0 - 1 Forfar

Bland. Unattractive. Boring. 2 teams trying to break each other down and getting absoloutely nowhere. Cue a Gregg Watson howler , as he misjudges the balls bounce in the 90th f'n minutes, allowing Shields free on the wing , he cuts in and lays it on a plate for the unmarked Oskarsson. A distraught McGuinness refuses to appear for the post match press conference, and Airdrie concede that promotion is gone for another season, and its time to concentrate on the cup.

Alloa 3 - 3 Airdrie United

Draw after Draw after Draw. McGuinness was sick of the sight of the pools coupon after this one, his team participating in their third scoring draw in 4 games. Rumours of discontent in the boardroom after McGuinness publicly complained about the lack of investment in the playing staff and the lack of ambition shown by certain board members (most notably the Chairman, who slashed the Transfer budget in half despite the club being very very far in the black).

Scottish Cup Quarter Finals

Stenhousemuir 1 - 1 Airdrie United

Finally the team woke up and realised they had something to play for. However it wasnt until 23 minutes into the game, by which point they had fallen behind to a Lauchlan turn and shot in the box. Jaconelli levelled it in 63 , a cracking strike from a Docherty throughball. The tie ebbed and flowed , and neither side gained dominance. A replay at Shyberry loomed.

Scottish Cup Quarter Final Replay

Airdrie United 1 - 0 Stenhousemuir

Despite missing several key players, and having some play against doctors orders , Airdrie started brightly , with Docherty (in for Baltacha) pinging in some cracking 25 yard shots, and Huckerby (who wouldnt last the 90) running well down the wing. It was a Huckerby run and pass that set up Jaconelli for the opener in the 12th minute , a superb turn and shot. After that , more midfield battling , but no clear chances, although Dunn spurned a 1 on 1 with the keeper in the 59th minutes

Airdrie United 1 - 1 Stenhousemuir

Manager McGuinness hit the jackpot again, another scoring draw from a team with more holes in its defence than Swiss Cheese. Stenny opened the scoring in 65 minutes , but Dunn equalised in 78 minutes. Want a match report? read the previous 2 games , theres no difference. These clubs are sick of the sight of one another.

Berwick In Crisis

Berwick in Crisis, the fans are going tonto ! The board are far from happy, Stewart is now on his 3rd public reassurance from the board, only survival in the 2nd will save him now.

Currently the are 6 points of 3rd bottom Dumbarton but have a game in hand, but recent results are not encouraging. However the team have been reshuffled and a number of disrupting players dropped, as Stewart attempts to stamp his authority and save his job, but will it all be too little to late.

Plans are being laid for next season, weakness's identified but will it all be in vain, training and tactics have been tweaked but wil it save Stewart.

So to the latest results, not very pretty.

Forfar 2-1 Berwick

Alasdair Shaw's Programme Notes Monday 08/03/04

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

Dear Supporters,

It is with genuine emotion that I must bid farewell to you and Elgin City. My time here has been short and results have been mixed, but the people at the club will forever be etched in my heart and I thank you all for the support and service you have given me.

Prior to my departure I was able to secure the signatures of three promising young midfielders, who should be tasting success long after I’m forgotten. Gary Smith, Alan Colgan and Scott Johnstone have joined from Middlesbrough, Northampton and Kilmarnock respectively and should have good futures in the game.

BELLS SCOTTISH THIRD DIVISION – QUEENS PARK – BORROUGH BRIGGS – SAT 31/01/04 – DRAW 1-1

The game against our league rivals was an exciting one, with plenty of goalmouth action to keep the fans entertained. Poor defending on our part let Hodge score a close range opener and when Charlie McLean was sent off for kicking out, our cause looked bleak. However we kept out heads up and Neal Clague held off his marker to fire home an equaliser and share of the points; which was a fair reflection of the game.

BELLS SCOTTISH THIRD DIVISION – EAST STIRLINGSHIRE – FIRS PARK – SAT 07/02/04 – WIN 3-2

Another thrilling game saw us nick a super away win. With Clague and McLean out, I turned to Whitmarsh and Carr-Lawton for goals; and their performance gave me food for thought regarding our future attacking options.

Indeed, it didn’t take long for Whitmarsh to open his goal account with Elgin, pouncing on a goalmouth opportunity. The striker managed to bag a second soon after, finishing off a well worked move from the left flank.

However a dubious penalty award let Creaney pull a goal back from the spot and some woeful defensive play from us let Lawson in to level the scoring.

But there was one more twist in the tale as Carr-Lawton raced clear to slot in his first goal for the club and secure us three points.

BELLS SCOTTISH THIRD DIVISION – PETERHEAD – BALMOOR STADIUM – SAT 14/02/04 – DEFEAT 2-1

The derby is always an interesting affair and this one was no different. Peterhead were awarded a penalty, despite Sinclair clearly winning the ball, and took the lead when Gardner converted the spot kick. Worse was to come when Johnston put us two goals down, but we battled back in the second half with Clague heading in from a corner kick. However we couldn’t find the equaliser and ended up leaving without the share of the spoils that our efforts deserved.

BELLS SCOTTISH THIRD DIVISION – GRETNA – BORROUGH BRIGGS – SAT 21/02/04 – DRAW 1-1

This was another fixture that we should have taken more from. Cohen’s early goal for the visitors caught us out, but we really laid siege to the Gretna goal and when Martin scored a screamer from 30 yards I was sure that we’d be sneaking a win. Yet the Gretna keeper had other ideas, producing save after save to keep us at bay and on the rare occasion he failed to, the crossbar ensured that the game finished a draw.

The match turned out to be my last as Elgin manager and I must now devote my efforts to the cause at Falkirk. I thank you all for your support and wish Elgin the very best for the future.

THE ONLY WAY IS UP!

The tough talking has payed dividends as the poor form has been over turned and the new faces have been integral as the club build momentum for the run in. With 7 games to go the Loons are top and staking a claim for promotion and the title, in what is a very tight promotion battle. Boss Turps is confident promotion can be achieved and has stated as much publically. Competition for the title is mainly from rival club Stenny. Deano's Warriors have a game in hand and look favourites to go up also but Tracy's Hamilton and even Bods dissapointing Airdrie still have a chance. Morton controlled by the Ai look dangerous in 4th place but the next few games will be critical, and it will go to the wire.

Squad wise the inroduction of Oskarsson and his partnership with Porhalsson has been a massive sucess. They are by far the most potent strikeforce, in the division with only Dumbarton scoring more. Right winger Charlie King has settled well since his move in the new year and has added much balance to the team allowing the 442 system to flourish. Other star performers have been AMC Kevin Byers known as Skreech! His tricky play in the middle has serviced the front two and a £250k bid from ICT was knocked back earlier in the season. A decision proved to be correct on his value to the team and current standing.

Away from Falkirk things are panning out and all the gaffers are finding their level within our Scottish netgame. The introduction of Patch 415 has accelerated some movement of managers to other clubs ( A thing which may spoil our netgame!). PM7 has moved down the division to Dumbarton for reasons only known to him, and Ally Shaw has jumped from lowly Elgin in the 3rd to struggling Falkirk in the 1st. That move will give major competition in Division 1 next season not only on the park but in the battle for new players this summer. Gaz has been sacked and is struggling again, joining fellow insecure managers Coisty, Dukebox, Iaintkd and Chris Nicol. Berwick managed by Iain look the next to be in trouble and he needs wins fast to survive and aviod relegation to the 3rd. The promotion race in the 3rd is just as exciting and Sav and Chris are pushing dogs all the way. Cup wise the fact 3 clan managers are in the last 4 of the Scottish Cup will confirm at least 1 human manager in the final and the possibilty of european football next season as well. All to play for as they say. Good luck in the next sess which is next monday (Thurs cancelled due to Barca game).

dumbarton.jpg

Dear Mr Redmond,

We would very much like it if you would consider leaving crappy Arbroath, and coming to the rescue of the great Dumbarton. Please reply asap as we are desperate.

The Dumbarton Board

It wasn't really a hard choice to make, even though Arbroath were safely mid table, and Dumbarton were still reeling from previous mis management (sorry Gav icon_wink.gif), it was a chance to get away from this fish infested town, and it would be a challenge to improve a once great team.

The squad he is probably worse than I had at Arbroath, and tbh I never thought that was possible. Our opening game was against Airdrie, and as I had just arrived in Dumbarton that day, I put the players against the wall, and picked 11 at random. It seemed to work as we gained a creditable 1-1 draw.

A superb 1-0 win over Morton seemed to suggest that we might be able to put a decent run together, and move up the table. But it turns out that was a false dawn. Away to Arbroath, and I recieved standing ovation from the home support, who were waving placards saying, 'Please Come Back Stuart'. It was all very nice, but I had a new job to do now. Losing with Dumbarton. A 2-0 defeat wasn't what we had planned.

A tough game against Forfar next, in which we battled well enough, but we're simply not good enough to ovecome such quality opposition yet. And a 0-0 draw with Alloa, followed by another battling performance against one of the other top sides in the league, Hamilton, which we lost 2-0, shows that we seem to have the lack of one key ingredient. Goals.

The task in the remainder of the season is to stay up, and then rebuild the squad during the summer. Dumbarton should be much on a much higher level in the Scottish game, and I intend to take them back there!

Alasdair Shaw's Programme Notes Monday 08/03/04

HELLO FALKIRK!!!

Dear Supporters,

Firstly, let me voice my delight at being given this opportunity to manage at Falkirk. The Bairns are one of Scottish football bigger clubs and I am relishing the chance of taking them back to greater things.

Already I’m thinking about next season and how I can mount a successful campaign. I can reveal that I’ve already sourced some new players to join us, but will say no more until they are actually through the door. Three of our younger players have moved on and we wish Darren Barr (Burton Albion), Paul Burns (Hull) and Nicholas Cosgrove (West Bromwich Albion) every success with their new clubs.

BELLS SCOTTISH FIRST DIVISION – QUEEN OF THE SOUTH – PALMERSTON PARK – SAT 28/02/04 – DEFEAT 4-2

My first match in charge let me see how the team performs in action and who I can rely on to do a job for us next season.

Davide Xausa got us off to a good start by holding off his marker and bulleting a header into the net. However The Doonhammers found an instant reply when Craig Coates found an equaliser. Coates then scored from the spot and then again from close range to earn a hat trick, before crowning his afternoon by taking advantage of a loose ball to make it 4-1.

Ian MacSween headed in a late consolation for us, but it was a disappointing defeat, especially as our performance should have been rewarded with at least a point.

BELLS SCOTTISH FIRST DIVISION – AYR – SOMERSET PARK – SAT 06/03/04 – DEFEAT 3-0

A trip to league leaders Ayr was never going to be easy, and when Andrew Ferguson got them off the mark within a minute of play, we faced an uphill struggle. Mark McColl slotted in to put us two down and when Ferguson scored again our defeat was complete. I have to say I was concerned by how easy it was for Ayr, who were never really threatened by our front line.

BELLS SCOTTISH FIRST DIVISION – ROSS COUNTY – OCHILVIEW PARK – SAT 13/03/04 – WIN 2-1

My first “home†fixture saw us go head to head with league rivals Ross County and we got off to a great start when James Sharp rose at corner kick to nod us in front. Poor communication at the back cost us when Shaun Kerr nicked in to draw things level, but a goalkeeping error let Andy Rodgers easily tap in a winner and my only concern came in the last five minutes when our keeper Allan Ferguson had to come off injured and Ian MacSween was forced to don the unfamiliar gloves. However we held on to record what I hope will be the first of many Falkirk victories with me at the helm.

Obviously our aim for the rest of the season is to finish in as high a league place as is possible, but I’m already trying to construct a team capable of a promotion push next season. I’m sure we all look forward to a bright future for Falkirk with a new stadium, new players and a new manager.

Thank you for the warm welcome and enjoy the game.

Cowdenbeath H 5-1

Stirling were up for this game from the start scoring two goals within the first ten minutes and finishing with five. McLean and Elliot both scored doubles with (M.O.M) O’Brian hitting the back of the net as well. Lee Potter did score for Cowden but it was merely a consolation goal.

It was a double win with the awards with O’Brian picking up young player of the Month and Manager Robertson rightfully receiving Manager of the Month. icon14.gif

Stranraer A 2-3

A great game to watch and one that Stirling just shaded it. With two exceptional goals from (M.O.M) Barry Elliot who has taken the third by storm this season and one form McLean Manager Robertson was pleased to get all the points with the game being 2-2 for a period. A true gut performance from the Lads.

East Stirling H 3-0

A easy victory in the end with O’Brian(M.O.M),Mclean and Elliot on the score sheet. The manager gave a run out to all three subs to give them some match practice. Manager Robertson only commented that some tactics have been studied and countered this season and was happy to see an old favourite in this game.

Montrose H 2-0

The stand out player and (M.O.M) was Hogarth our team captain and goalie, he was in superb from which lead to the clean sheet. Goals from the usual suspects Elliot and McLean gave the home team the deserved victory. A good team performance and the Manager was well happy.

Queens Park A 2-2

A disappointing draw when at one point due to two great strikes from McLean we were two goals up. Wilson missed a penalty before Queens hit back at the end. Manager Robertson only commented that it should have been a win but conceded with other results on the day it did not cost us as much as it could and Queens Manager well he needs all the points he can get right now.

Again Manager of the month goes to Manager Robertson. icon14.gif

Gretna H 5-1

A game we dominated from the start due Mainly to Gretna’s Tactic that Manager Robertson knows to counter so well. Elliot (M.O.M) with a hat trick and Wilson (pen) and McLean with their goals made it an easy game in the end. Sigere for Gretna looks a great player but he was subdued playing in such a formation.

Elgin A 0-0

A rarity indeed with Stirling not on the score sheet, Elgin’s Goalie was simply in out standing from for this game. Manager Robertson disappointed about dropping points conceded it was just one of those days.

Binos Banter

With our position being 2nd only because of goal difference and with seven game to go I think we should be a safe 3rd icon_biggrin.gifat the very least. With the two teams beside us I still feel there is a gulf in strength that Stirling have too address and therefore think that promotion will be lucky if we get it.

After a Bun fight on the docks leaves only Bod surviving with the rest dead, Champo agent Redmond (for it is he) flies in to ensure that ex-champ Dogs is really dead. During the questioning the survivor, Verbal “bod†s**t, tells of how events came to happen. Five criminals are brought together in a line up and decide to use the events to plan a Clan. However another survivor tells an extra story – one involving master criminal Steven McGuiness. Verbal S**t reveals how the clan were forced into the fateful job by McGuiness – however who is McGuiness and why did the men try to steal what appeared to be a server load of cheat tactics that didn't exist?

Kilmarnock. – a few wweeks ago. A server loaded

with a clan game got jacked . The Clan Meister didn't see

anybody, but somebody fecked up. He heard

a voice. Sometimes, that's all you need.

Redmond rounded up all the suspects;

Verbal steps through the door, followed by the rest.

“Bodâ€

It didn't make sense that I be there. I mean these guys were hard-core Champo Players,

but there I was. At that point, I wasn't scared, I knew I hadn't done anything they could do me for. Besides, it was fun. I got to make like I was popular

The five men were ushered into the room in front of a white wall painted with horizontal blue stripes. Each has a number at either end to denote the height of the man in front of it.

Between these lines are thinner blue lines to tell the specific height in inches. Verbal “bod†S**t stood in front of the line marked 3 inches….??

Bright lights shone on all of them. They squint, eyes. Adjusting due to hours stuck in darkened rooms in front of computers, laptops…any device they could get their hands onto!

Dogs leans forward a bit and looks at the men in line with him. He shares a look of familiarity with Gaz and then Turps. Sav smiles at all of them in a camp way.

Turps; Where you been, bawbag?

Redmond:SHUT UP IN THERE. Alright, you all know

the drill. When your number is called,

step forward and repeat the phrase you've

been given. Understand?

The players all nod.

Number one. Step forward. Redmond barked out in a boring way

Sav takes a step forward. He looks directly into a mirror

on the other side of the room it immediately cracks. It is three feet square and he can make out faint light behind it. Could it be a computer playing champo…he breaks out in a cold sweat. He speaks in a complete dead-pan monotone mocking Redmond.

SAV Give me the file, you-fecking-cork-sucker

Redmond - Number two. Step forward.

Turps steps up and makes a gun with his thumb and Forefinger due RSI. He mocks champo intensity, pointing at the mirror. He camps (aye aye sailor) up his line .

Turps Give me the File, you motherfecking, corksucking pile of s**t, or I'll rip off your…

Redmond KNOCK IT OFF. Get back in line. Too interesting for me!

The rest of the players do their bit as Verbal speaks It was bull The whole rap was a setup. Everything is the The clan meisters fault. You don't put guys like that in a room together. Who knows what can happen?

To: reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk

cc: Subject: Possible Vacancies?

Dear Daily Record

I write to enquire regarding any possible vacancies in your sports department. At present I am employed as Peterhead Manager, however I feel I have the requirements to qualify as a reporter for your famous sports department. I have no journalistic experience but I do have a keen interest in football, pub talk, rumour -mongering and a high disregard for the truth. Given the contents of your paper this week I feel that I would fit in.

Perfect examples as follows: 1. Back page today: 'Bod in diet shocker'. The article mentions that Bod has joined Weight Watchers, an organisation who are revered for their expertise in helping obese people loose weight throughout Britain. The same article also mentions that Bod will have very little if any weight to lose. Is this man simply going to be given to Gold badge as a reward for their great season?

2. Earlier in the week the main headline on the back page (and mentioned on the front page I think) was that Forfar were set to spend £20,000,000 on players this summer. The record reporter assured us about this. Yet the main Editorial feature on page 62 today is headlined Turps rummaging round the bargain basement a kick in the teeth to Loons fans'. As a budding investigative journalist I would be willing to investigate the whereabouts of this large sum of money which has apparently disappeared in the space of 24 hours. It certainly is a kick in the teeth for Forfar fans, as they would be supporting one of only four teams in Europe (the others are in the bigger more lucrative leagues) with such large sums of money to spend, yet today the Record creates the impression that Forfar will be scavenging around Europe for the dregs of the transfer market. I'm confused (another credential for a job?).

3. In January the Record had a bold front page headline 'thieves, thugs and vagabonds', a reference to the Scottish clan players' clan night out. This headline was proved later to be wholly false as no charges were brought against the innocent Champo players. Yet in the last month, the paper has had numerous exclusive pull-outs to commemorate Dogs magnificent run in Europe. Indeed a bus, of all things, was sent to Montrose with a team of crack addicts. How can such a respectable paper lend such support to a clan full of thieves, thugs and vagabonds? Although it is against my beliefs I would be willing to be two faced if it meant that I could get a ticket to a major European final and a right good **** up abroad.

4. I do not posses much experience with photo manipulation software packages, but I feel that I too could doctor photos such as Monday's male stripper with the head of BOD superimposed on it. Again, although it is against my beliefs to search for the slightest thing in someone's character in order to humiliate them (BOD), I would be willing to have a go in order to make fun of a Clan manager who had just pulled off one of the most decent results in the clans recent history. Given that this photo was based on a Taloola phoning a fun (it can't be serious!) football phone-in on Saturday and mentioning that she fancied BOD, it seems like a poor basis for such a full page feature on the Airdrie manager. However, if required, after any good results I would be willing to revert back to investigative journalism in order to find any kind of negativity, in order to create a highly hilarious feature.

Although I am partially dyslexic (don't know how to spell it) have few grammatical skills in grammar and am currently employed (in my defence can I just say that I am terminally workshy, as can be seen from the time spent on this - in fact I have a knack of doing nothing all day then hacking out something at the last minute when I have to, which I think would be ideal for producing something to fill the pages. I could even use 'Phil O'Space' as my pen name)

I feel that I would be ideal for a position in your renowned and respected paper. I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Ghod

PS. I read in your paper a while ago that there was a war in Iraq. Should I be unsuccessful in my application, I would be pleased if you could at least clarify if this was true.

A bit of background to the characters mentioned above

Stewart “Sav†Robertson

Sav is an expert with explosives forwards, and the most hotheaded of the five clan criminals. He is generally very suspicious toward the fellow clanners

Hold it with the new patch the Mac version is not out yet!!!!!!;

Another instance of this is in his attitude toward Turps when it is revealed that their Sav ed game was corrupted.

In all after the replays in the clan game I lost only 2 points in the league but gained a good cup run after last time getting kicked out first round with a 5-4 thriller. With an amateur side in the next round it could make me some money and manager points after poor Gaz got sacked. His role in the clan is usually a minor one, and not much is revealed about him during the sessions.

Ross “Turps†Turpie

Turps role in the clan is that of entry man without his say there is no entry. He takes his work very seriously, and doesn't mind killing if it will get the job done. Gaz has been his partner for the prior four years. Turps is generally antagonistic with Dogs, (Funny that lots of games played and doggy was absent)

but the two become more compatible as the season progresses.

U beat Edinburghy City 2-1 and have Livvy or Gers in the Semi. 7 games to go and yer top of the league dont panic It is Turps affiliation with the fence Sy that eventually brings the criminals to the tactics forum, where things begin to get interesting!

Gary “Gaz†Toner

Gaz is probably the least fleshed out of the five criminals he looks skinny. He is in the group because of his association with Turps: they have been partners for four years. His only distinctive characteristics are his flashy dressing style and his almost unintelligible speech. He does provide some humor to the clan, especially when he got the sack from Dumbarton recently!

Alex “Dogs†Holligan

Dogs is the most reluctant of the five clanners. He has good reason to be so; he is trying to become a "respectable" clanner, apparently in the SI forums. Taloola is both his lawyer and his love interest, all the more reason to clean up his act. PM7 won't let him forget who he once was “dogsfaultâ€, however. In an attempt to start fresh, Dogs had attempted to fake his own death, which worked for three months or so, but eventually PM7 caught up with him, making him more determined than ever to nail Dogs. Eventually, Dogs realizes that he can never go escape his past.

Verbal “Bod†S**t

Bod is the clans's most visible character, simply because he is the only a fat bastige. He is interrogated by PM7 concerning what happened at the tactics forum, and although he has no legal reason to cooperate, as he has been granted fish suppers for life, he enters into a give-and-take dialogue with PM7. "Verbal S**t", as his name suggests, is a s**t talker; this also hints to his criminal profession: con man. He comes up with a plan for the original use of diablo so that there is no killing involved. Because he was in another clan with Dogs for a short time, the men won't let him participate in the heist unless Dogs does as well, to make sure he is trustworthy. Bod eventually convinces Dogs to help out, and the two share an unspoken bond throughout the season.

Stuart “PM7â€Redmond

PM7 is the most boring character in the clan. He is, in fact, an undercover SI Fun agent who has been tracking Dogs for the past three years. When he hears that Dogs is dead, he immediately heads to the Isle Of Man to check out the situation. Dogs faked his death once before, and this leaves PM7 fairly skeptical about Dog's recent demise. In the IOM, PM7 meets "Verbal" S**t, the sole survivor of the tactics explosion who can help piece together the puzzle. PM7 bores S**t (and everyone else), and this sets the stage for the rest of the season

Traceyâ€Taloolaâ€Watson

Taloola is both a high-priced bar maid and Dog's girlfriend. She is seen in the Clan involved on two cases only. One is Dogs’ running battle with PM7 in particular. She is also brought in to work on an extradition case by Coisty, who coerces dogs into working for Steven McGuiness by threatening Taloola’s safety. All of this happens without her knowledge (fortunately for her). She is seen as a loving woman who truly cares about Dogs, one of the more sympathetic in the

Reversal of fortune for the 'Shire' this session, Lost matches, lost points and dropping down the league.

Gretna :A: Old man goals Falconer rose to head an early opener for the visiting 'Shire' and the match progressed into the usual tit for tat tussle with both sides making chances and heading towards a 3-3 draw when the most bizzare goal witnessed by this manager occured.

'Shire' keeper Connely launched a massive clearance down field, the ball soared through the sky like an exocet missile, was seen to take a bounce cleared the outrushing Gretna keeper ricochet off the bar and fall at the feet of a 'Shire' striker who slotted it into an empty net. The 'Shire' stealing three points.

3-4 win.

Elgin :H: Very close fought match with chances made and missed by both sides, Elgin emerging as victors.

2-3 lose.

Stirling Alb :A: The 'Shire' struggled in this match and were never really in the action, and the 2nd period was a dull affair.

3-0 lose.

Peterhead :A: Hard fought battle not really given justice by the scoreline, and the 'Shire' losing two soft goals.

2-0 lose.

Albion Rvrs :H: A riproaring end to end battle that saw chances falling to both sides, the 'Shire' fast hitting breakaway tactic worked well in this match even if the final score did see them go down 3-4 and to record their 4th straight loss.

Stranraer :A: The worrying run of defeats was reversed with this 'Shire' victory, this match could have went either way but the 'Shire' defence held strong to help the side to three points.

2-3 win.

Montrose :H: Another strong defensive display by the 'Shire' back four and keeper Connely putting on an impressive performance, the rampaging Montrose side fell victim to the 'Shire' breakaway and a share of the spoils was a just reward for all the effort applied by the home side.

1-1 Draw.

With the season drawing to a close, East Stirling have dropped to sixth place and even though a higher position is possible at the end its highly improbable.

With 'Old man goals' Falconer retiring at the end of the season the hunt is on for his replacement, the veteran striker has been impressive in this his final season, and his contribution and dedication has been emense.

Ghod-

Yeah I’m the suspicious one, I’ll always check your tactics unless your keeping that full on attacking central midfielder tactic that’s so easy to counter. Just remember I smile because...I have no idea what's going on!!!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

I think Ghod is just coming to terms with the fact he’s not the brightest crayon in the box.

Ghod helps those who help themselves, or is he just a poor tactician.

I'm not smiling at you

10 games on from the last update and Montrose are flying high. A combination of sound judgement in the transfer market and clever counter tactics employed against human oposition have seen the Dogmeister once again at this early stage in his chosen league position, first!!

icon_wink.gif

Bells Scottish Third - Elgin (h) 6-1

Elgin were easily beaten earlier in the challenge cup 1st round and this game was no

exception dazzling wing play won the day with both young wingers providing all the assists.

Bells Scottish League Cup - Stirling (h) 3-1

This was a tougher game than the score suggests with both teams having their share of chances. On the day as the player stats dictate, Rose simply played better and as a result took their opportunities.

Bells Scottish Third - Peterhead (a) 1-1

This game was the first true test of the dogmeister's young team as they fell behind early in the first half. After leveling soon after, the young team showed their battling qualities as they held on under heavy pressure in the second half to secure a valuable point.

Bells Scottish Challenge Cup Semi - ICT 3-2

This was a major test of the rose with ICT playing in the Scots first Div. Rose played out

their skin and held the lead twice before finally killing off a strong thistle in the last minute with a Correira penalty.

Bells Scottish Third - Albion Rovers (h) 5-0

Back to easy street, Rose never get out of second gear as they easily brush aside a lacklustre wee rovers outfit.

Bells Scottish League Cup - Kilmarnock (h) 2-0

A shock result as Montrose totally play their SPl counterparts off the park with smooth and

clinical counter attacking play. Wingers Hall and Herbert show up Killie's lack of width by

getting the goals

Bells Scottish Third - Stirling (h) 3-0

Rose consolidate their promotion push with a good result against fellow promotion favorites

Stirling. A game of many chances for both sides, Rose again show their opposition where the net is by scoring three.

Bells Scottish Third - Stranraer (h) 2-0

Another big game as Steve's strong Stranny side come to town, and like most teams to come to

the Gable end this season they leave disappointed. a strong performance by captain gibson in midfield as he scores two great goals to earn MOM and put Steve to the sword!

Bells Scottish Third - East Stirling (a) 3-0

East Stirling are the weakest team in Scotland and this was shown here. With no answer to Rose's higher skill and stamina, East Stirling hold out until the second half where their defence finally relents under constant Rose pressure to concede three.

Bells Challenge Cup (Final) Ayr Utd (2-1)

Ayr are simply one of the toughest teams to play and this was shown here. Rose scored early

on but after that it was total backs to the wall material for the gableenders. In extra time we steal the win against the run of play from a setpiece and hold out to prompt mad

celebrations amongst the Montrose fans, as we secure the first bit of silverware in Scotland

this season.

Bells Scottish Third - Queens Park (h) 4-2

Back to league duty and yet another win as Rose hit pole position in the division. Queens are made to rue miss chances as Rose take theres to make the three points their's.

Bells Scottish Third - Cowdenbeath (a) 1-1

A really tough game and we are lucky to come away with a point as Jeff's Blue brazil take the game to the Rose score early and create chance after chance. A valuable setpiece equiliser late on in the game makes sure we come away with a valuable point.

Bells Scottish Third - Gretna (h) 5-0

Gretna have simply no answer to the Rose fire power and possession. Bad finishing in effect

keeps the score down as Rose only manage to score five!!

Bells Scottish Third - Elgin (a) 1-0

Ally has been slowly but surely been turning it around at Elgin and this game showed. Rose were made to fight for the three points. This time the usual Elgin collapse didnt materialise and we were lucky to grab the single goal to preserve our unbeaten record in the league.

Bells Scottish Third - Peterhead (h) 1-2

After all the good work done in the last two games, We throw it away when a combination of bad defending and lax finishing costs us our first defeat of the season. We had double the shot that our opponents had, but in the end this was not good enough as Toon show that on this day they are more clinical and take the three points on offer.

Bells Scottish League Cup (quarter final) - Celtic (a) 1-2

Montrose play out their skin and score first to surprise everyone. In the end class shows and Celtic score two late goals to put Montrose out the cup and send them home with a nice 500k cheque. This result coupled with the Killie result from the earlier round sends shock waves around Scotland as people realise that the Rose can mix it with the big boys!!

Bells Scottish Third - Albion Rovers (a) 2-1

With the manager expecting a minor performance after the disappointing exploits of the midweek loss to Celtic, the team show its true colours with a complete professional performance to defeat a greatly improved Albion Rovers team 2-1, a great result!!

Bells Scottish Third - Stranraer (a) 0-1

With the the rose maanger absent and on holiday, the ass mananger retains control and loses a vital match to fellow promotion candidates Stranraer 1-0, possibly tiredness with the previous hectic game plan, or the ass mna has to go!!!!

Bells Scottish Cup (second round) - Queens Park (a) 3-2

End to end shots, penalty misses, dubious tactics this game had it all. In the end Holligan's experience shows as he steers the Rose wide of a potential banana skin and into the next round.

Bells Scottish Third - Stirling (h) 3-1

This game had Sav pulling out his hair as he had numerous chnaces to score but in the end lost all three points as his defence let him down badly conceding three goals and in effect the three points to the Rose.

Bells Scottish Third - Cowdenbeath (h) 6-1

Rose destroy Cowdenbeath as Jeff's troops have simply no answer to the dazzling wing play of young winger Hall.

Bells Scottish Third - Queens Park (a) 1-0

Sy must be getting sick of the sight of Montrose as he loses yet again conceding all three points. An early correira penalty is enough to consolidate Rose's position at the top of the pile.

Bells Scottish Cup (third round) - Peterhead (a) 4-1

A bit of a grudge match as Ghod had been talking up this game and challenging dogs on his skills as a manager. Well big talkers fall hard as Holligans far superior tactical knowledge exploits the weaknesses in the Ghod backline to destroy the toon. A late goal conceded by Rose in injury time angers Holligan!!

Bells Scottish Third - East Stirling (h) 1-2

On paper this should have been a home banker for the Rose. Whether complacency creeps in or not. East Stirling had been slowly but surely improving of late. Tam exploits his one man advantage to run out victors with a late winner.

Bells Scottish Third - Gretna (a) 1-0

The league's whipping boys put up more of a fight but it's all in vain as Rose finish off one of their many chances to take the three points.

Bells Scottish Third - Elgin (h) 5-0

Some teams have simply crumbled when playing at Montrose. Elgins players freeze like rabbits in the headlamps as Rose hit them for five.

Wee Rovers

Each session we either end up with a run of excellent games or terrible displays, this in turn has led Boss Abraham to believe his future lays in his childhood favourites "Greenock Morton". But for the time being, Abraham has continued to manage Albion with profesionalism.

Albion v Gretna

The first game of the session saw Gretna visit Albion and go home with there faces in there hands, wishing that they had Abraham in charge. Mcmanus with 3, Bannerman, Silvestro and cross went to town on the Gretna defence and made Longbottom and Camerons goals seem pointless for the visiting team.

Albion V Queen poofs

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA Queens park were storming to victory at half time with a 4 goal lead through 3 from KristJansson and one from Manelaws. Chieftan little ferret was praising his sides performance but Albion had no doubts that not only would they come back but they would beat the poofy Hampden side. Second half saw Mcmanus and Mercer score two each and Bradford and Coulter ripping the Queeny boys defence apart and allowing KristJansson score a fourth just to give the Spiders support something to smile through there tears about.

Albion took all 3 points with a superb 6-5 display.

East Stirling V Albion

Wee Rovers took a trip to Roonies old stalking grounds and went home with full points in another thrilling game. Lawson, Palicska and Falconer scored for the home side But they needn't of bothered since Mercer, Bradford with 2 and Clements scored along with a basic Reserve Albion side.

Albion V Dunfermline

After storming to victory in the cup against Hearts and Clyde, Albion were without fear in facing Dunfermline. A good display from Albion saw McManus, Silvestro and Spink scoring and Hunt scoring a conselation for the visitors. The Giant Killers now go into a away clash against Bods Airdrie, no matter the result of that game nobody can deny that the Wee Rovers have done tremendous.

Albion V Elgin

Tommy Smith has had his injury problems since signing for the wee Rovers and this was only his second appearance in the clubs shirt, and he won the game for Albion with a superb 2 goals in a 2-1 victory against the leagues basement boys.

Peterhead V Albion

In this footballing climate you cannot expect each session to go without at least 1 lose and this lose came against the Fishing Towns pride of joy, Peterhead. Bavidge scored twice and Ramos scored a third as McAlister scored for the wee Rovers to make the score 3-1

After Abraham showed his interest in the Cappilow job the Albion board showed the anger publically, wether Abraham lasts the full session Tomorrow will remain to be seen.

Gretna in Trouble

Or should that be Toner in trouble, another disterous session as Gretna continue to struggle at the foot of the table having only taken 4 points out of a 21 and its not just the loses that have lamented the position the manager finds himself it, its the way the team have lost, leaking goals galore.

The good news is that the season is nearly over and if Toner is lucky enough to find himself some how still in the job come next season then he can count himself lucky and wipe the slate clean.

Stenny poised for the final push

After a tense twenty odd games, Stenny under the expert (so far at least) guidance of English infiltrator Deano, find themselves poised for possible promtotion in 2nd spot in the league. The division is very tight and on their day virtually and of the human managed teams could beat each other, hence why all of the top five are in with a shout of promotion, our league form has been pretty consistent and it will need to be with 3 of our closest challengers to come in the final 7 games its gonna be a rocky ride to the 1st division.

Our run in the Scottish Cup made an interesting sideline from the week-in week-out drudgery of the league campaign. Rosco’s Forfar were dispatched in the first round (actually dispatched makes it sound like we deserved to win, we really really didn’t), this was followed by a p*ss poor 1-0 win against Cove Rangers, the third round saw us give our performance of the season to date as SPL (for this season at any rate) Partick Thistle were drubbed 4-0, we squeaked past St. Johnstone in the next round and the draw for the Quarter Finals pitted us against Bod’s Airdrie. Disappointingly we blew it and after luckily getting a 1-1 draw at home we went down 1-0 in the return to end the dreams of a Hampden Finale to end of the season.

There have been some truly tragic freebies brought in by myself at the start of the season, with no transfer budget to speak of our options were always going to be limited, add tp that crap scouting and you have some serious w*nk being added to the Stenny gravy train. Having said that the signatures of Martin, Bowman, Fotheringham and our only cash purchase of Naylor were great bits of business, and they have been near ever presents in the push for promotion.

Amazing Airdrie Annihilate All Comers

The scene was set for a terrific end of season battle. Airdrie flew into action , climbing back into contention for the league, and into the cup final, but drama was to come ....

Hamilton 0 - 2 Airdrie

Finally, after 3 attempts, Airdrie get the 3 points over the Accies. With the midfield running through the Accies defence at will, it was only a matter of time before the goals came (Jaconelli and Dunn).

East Fife 0 - 3 Airdrie

Another 3 points that were hard earned, but well deserved. Goals from Jaconelli (2) and Lambu settling the match in Airdries favour. With Stenny and Forfar drawing, the Diamonds were back within a few points of promotion.

Airdrie 3 - 0 Morton

This was the game that ended Morton's title aspirations. A well worked series of moves cutting the visitors to shreds by half time. Goals from Dunn, Lambu and Jaconelli ending the 'ton promotion run, and bringing the Diamonds into real contention again.

Scottish Cup Semi Final

Airdrie 4 - 2 Albion Rovers

Wonderful stuff. A joy for the meager crowd of 3,986 that showed up to see Airdrie run out comfortable winners with goals from Jaconelli , Lambu , Dunn and a Docherty Penalty. Europe beckons , a cup final against a Glasgow giant. Fame , Fortune , a huge wad of cash, but something sat uneasy in the Airdrie boardroom. A vacancy had arisen on the North side of Glasgow, and the Diamonds were worried their manager was contemplating switching sides ....

Thistle appoint Diamonds boss in last ditch attempt at staying up

It was a shocker!

The millions in the bank and the state of the art facilities and stadium werent enough to keep a man from his dream. The 3/4 built stadium, leaky roof, million quid of debt, and the "Prime Location" in Maryhill were enough to sway the heart of McGuinness, and the Jags had a boss with real pride in the club. He paid tribure to the efforts of his predecessor, mentioning him in the same breath as great Scottish managers of old, Stein, O'Neill, Ferguson , Holligan. But the mood was one of fresh starts, new beginnings. The club must be rebuilt, and the Jags had found just the man to do it.

Partick Thistle 8 - 0 Hearts

And what a start!

Right from the off it was obvious that McGuinness had a new strategy planned for this team. A raucous, attack minded strategy that brought previously forgotten players into the squad, and introduced promising kids into the lineup at an early age. McBride revelled in his new central role , striding forward at will and hammering home at will. He bagged 5 goals, and strikes from Miller (2) and Thomson rounding off the scoring, and bringing belief to a club previously devoid of it.

Partick Thistle 1 - 0 Motherwell

The match Thistle HAD to win. With an 11 point deficit to make up on Motherwell, and only 5 games to go, defeat here was unthinkable. An early strike from Jamie Mitchell was the difference maker here, and Thistle held out to make the great escape still a possibility. 4 games to go, and the lead for Well was down to 8 points. However, 3 of the remaining games are away from Home. One defeat, and a single 'Well win, and Thistle are down.

Dundee United 1 - 4 Partick Thistle

An early Miller strike equalised by Paterson. Then further goals from Miller(2) , Milne and Panther kept the Great Escape on course. Only 6 points back now with 3 to play.

Partick 0 - 0 Dunfermline

ROADBLOCK!

With the Jags looks seemingly good, a stumble was inevitable. Despite having most of the posession and the majority of the shots on goal, a tired frontline simply couldnt turn posession into goals, and the points were shared. With Motherwell losing 3-2 at home, Thistle now needed to win both their remaining games, and hope for 'Well to lose both of theirs. This was going to be tight , as the Priest said to the Altar Boy.

Alasdair Shaw's Programme Notes Monday 15/03/04

FALKIRK WHEEL INTO A NEW ERA

Dear Supporters,

First of all let me welcome you to our new purpose built all seater stadium. The imaginatively titled Falkirk Stadium boats 12,000 seats and I’m already seeing the benefits from our new training facilities, which are among the best around.

As the season draws to a conclusion I am bringing down the curtain on what has been a disappointing year from a footballing perspective. However as the close season approaches, I’m already busy making moves to ensure that we can launch a successful campaign after the summer.

Given our excellent new training ground, it only seems right that our talented youngsters learn from some of the best coaches in the game and this is an area that I’ll be looking at over the next couple of months. Just before the end of the season I was pleased to welcome Stanislav Parmonov to our coaching staff and I am certain that his wealth of experience will be invaluable to our younger players.

The youth system at the club is something that I’ve been keen to improve and I’m delighted to announce the arrival of some promising youngsters to our ranks. Defender Paolo Seppani joins us from Italian giants Roma and will almost certainly see some first team action despite his tender age. Ciarian Donnelly is a player who we have high hopes for after joining from Blackburn Rovers while Kevin Barkley is another midfielder with bags of potential. We faced stiff competition in the face to sign Belgian under 21 internationalist Eric Ofori Okyere from Anderlecht, but I was thrilled when the attacking midfielder agreed to join up with us. Also arriving is attacker Roy O’Donovan from Coventry and Andy Haskins, another midfielder, from Nottingham Forest. Given our new youth academy setup at the club, I expect to be announcing more arrivals in the next issue.

Meanwhile, two new faces have arrived to our first team ranks. Moroccan international goalkeeper Driss El Asmar will provide excellent competition for the number one jersey after signing from Malmo, while Jani Viander signs a short term deal to give us cover for the keeper position.

Finally, I must say a big thank you to Joe Boyle, who has finished his loan spell with us and returned to Partick Thistle. We are indebted to his service and wish him the very best next season, except when playing the Bairns of course!

BELLS SCOTTISH FIRST DIVISION – ST. JOHNSTONE– McDIARMID PARK – SAT 20/03/04 – DRAW 3-3

A thrilling game rewarded our travelling support as we took on St. Johnstone, a side still very much in the promotion hunt. Kevin James started the goal glut after only 5 minutes by heading in at a corner kick, but Chris Hay smashed home an equaliser just after the half time interval. Keigan Parker finished off a route one goal to give out hosts the lead, but Andy Rodgers made things square again after a clever knock on by Jason Lee. An exhilarating final 10 minutes saw Rodgers score what we hoped would be the winner, but a late penalty let Parker score from the spot to finish the game at 3-3 and end an entertaining encounter.

BELLS SCOTTISH FIRST DIVISION – INVERNESS CALADONIAN THISTLE – THE FALKIRK STADIUM – SAT 03/04/04 – DRAW 2-2

Over 10,000 fans watched my cut the ribbon on our new stadium as ICT rolled into town. The game got off to a good start when Rodgers scored a penalty after just 5 minutes, but Steven Hislop bulleted home a header to level. Tony Low then put the visitors in front with a penalty of their own just before the interval, but captain courageous Kevin James led by example, heading in from a corner kick on the hour mark. Naturally we had wanted to win our first game at our new home, but a point against tricky opposition can’t be scoffed at.

BELLS SCOTTISH FIRST DIVISION – CLYDE – THE FALKIRK STADIUM – SAT 10/04/04 – WIN 1-0

Once again we welcomed over 10,000 spectators through the gates, but this turned out to be a drab affair with Kevin James continuing his good run of form with a headed goal inside the last 10 minutes. The win pushed us up to six place and refreshed my desire to finish in the top half of the league.

BELLS SCOTTISH FIRST DIVISION – RAITH ROVERS – STARK’S PARK – SAT 17/04/04 – DRAW 1-1

A tough away match at our league rivals was a tense affair with neither side able to dictate play. David Xausa raced onto a long ball and slotted in to give us the lead, but John Sutton scored a similar goal to ensure that the points would be shared.

BELLS SCOTTISH FIRST DIVISION – ST. MIRREN – ST. MIRREN PARK – SAT 24/04/04 – WIN 2-0

We entered this game as the team with the best form in the league and quickly showed why we were picking up points. Young Ian MacSween was given the opportunity to shine in attack and he didn’t waste his chance, worming through the Buddies defence before firing in from a tight angle to finish a great goal. MacSween then added a second, getting a leg to Donnelly’s cross and poking the ball into the net.

BELLS SCOTTISH FIRST DIVISION – BRECHIN – THE FALKIRK STADIUM – SAT 01/05/04 – DRAW 0-0

As the final score suggests, this was a dull match with goal scoring chances at a premium. Brechin were fighting to avoid relegation but our failure to win meant we finished the season in a disappointing 6th place.

BELLS SCOTTISH FIRST DIVISION – QUEEN OF THE SOUTH – THE FALKIRK STADIUM – SAT 08/05/04 – WIN 2-0

This was the Russell Latapy show in what turned out to be his swan song for the club. The popular midfielder will be retiring during the close season, so what better way to bring the curtain down on a successful career than a man of the match performance. Latapy showed he was in the mood for a party with his first goal, a 35 yard screamer that nearly burst the net and his second goal was just as spectacular, curling a free kick into the top corner from the edge of the box. We totally dominated the game, with QOTS unable to get a single shot on target, and I was thrilled that Russell capped his playing career in such a marvellous fashion.

With the close season now in action I’m working very hard to prepare the team for the new league campaign. The players may enjoy a rest, but I’m working frantically to ensure that we have a squad capable of challenging for promotion to the SPL and bringing glory to Falkirk in our exciting new era.

Thanks for you support throughout the season.

COMPREHNESIVE SEASON 1 CLAN ANALYSIS FROM HOST !( Honest as Ever!)

Well Its over and here is the 'official' hosts report into season 1 in the Scottish clan netgame. With 16 players involved thing got off to a slow start but we managed to get the season done in about 6 weeks, despite loosing a month due the corrupt save! The debut season to our longterm game was a massive success with plenty of drama and talking points along the way. The intorduction of patch 415 accelerated the human movement between clubs (Unrealistic!) but at the end of the season most the Clan were spread over the bottom 3 divisions. Only 1 manager (Gaz again!) got the sack and a few battled with insecure status but managed to keep their jobs, in what was a truly ruthless and competitve on-line experience. The new guys settled in well but the old managers showed their experience in on-line play and adapted to the netgame better than others, the old heads proved to have the edge by challenging for most the silverware and moving to better clubs. Division 3 had a human gaffer at every club and was highly competively charged! Sav won the title on the last day from Dogs highflying Trose, with Chris Nicol's Stranraer loosing out. Division 2 was won by bookies favourite Turps with a close challenge from Carl Dean. Bod and Ally Shaw managed to jump 2 Division by getting new larger clubs. Both moves took the fellow managers by shock! Bod's old team Airdire won the Scottish Cup beating Gers on penalties and gypsy gaffer PM moved from Arbroath to Dumbarton and back again in the same season...bonkers! Most dissapointing players were Gaz who got sacked from Dumbarton and Iain Tkd in Div 2 who were both terrible. And in Div 3 Sy & Coist who were simply pathetic. Here's a quick run down on each gaffer in order of finishing...

BOD - Started off with Airdrie and challenged for promotion in division 2 before falling away in the run in. Signed Division 2 player of the year Scott Huckerby and some other good llm players. had an awzome Scottish Cup run leading Airdrie to the final before sensationally taking over boyhood favourites Partick Thistle and narrowly missing SPL survival with only 6 games left.

ALLY - Started with lowly Elgin a club he was dissapointed in at the kick off. Employed an old Shire signing strategy in an effort to improve the clubs playing staff and fortunes. Surprisingly despite his lower half div 3 status managed to get the Falkrik job in Div1. Probably the shrewdest move of season 1!

TURPS - Started with Forfar a descent club and strengthened well with usual suspect Iclandic stars Porhalsson & Oskarsson. Scored the most and conceded the least in the division and probably deserved the title which was secured comfortably in the end.

DEANO - Won promotion to the 1st after finishing 2nd and challenging in division 2 all season. Not many descent signing's of note, but tactically was sound throughout pushing Forfar all the way. Does'nt talk much!

TRACY - Started strongly and pushed for promotion throughout but faded away towards the end. Lack of depth and quality signings showed inexperience but proved her worth by finishing respectably and in good shape for next season.

PM7 - Despite the boring tag, he managed to move clubs starting with Arbroath to Dumbarton after Gaz got sacked and back to Arbroath again. Ended up in mid table mediocrity but won a few despite all his negativity and moaning! Boring? never!

IAINTKD - Got relegated and was very poor throughout. Poor preparation, laziness and niavety was the factor that took what initially on paper was a descent club down to the depths of Scottish football. With more draws than Tony Hart, he was lucky to keep his job and will find his level in Division 3 next season.

SAV - Won Division 3 with some superb victories pipping and beating Dogs at the wire! Some awzome attacking display's and victories showed he does have some brains and Sav when it comes to football management!

DOGS - Was the main pace setter in Division 3 until last few sessions were he was absent. @ many draws cost him the title, but the great Scottish Cup run to the Semi's and narrow defeat after a replay proved his managerial mettle yet again. Turned trose into a secure club generating over a Million pounds in the process. Was shrew in the transfer market as always.

CHRIS - Stranraer promised much at the start of the season and he challenged Sav & Dogs all the way. Unlucky to come 3rd but some sloppy play and results proved costly especially against his main promotion rivals. Became Insecure due to boards ambitions. might have to fall on his sword for his promotion failings.

GHOD - The Clan's latest recruit did not disgrace himself as he adapted to on-line play well. made an immidiate impact in both the game, thread and chatroom a colourfull character, but results do the talking and his 15 losses were 2 much for a promotion hopefull like Peterhead.

COISTY - Started poorly and managed to mess up what was a descent club for the 2nd netgame running. Underachieving Albion were hot on cold. Some improvement was made when advice from a wiser head was sought. His interest in the Morton job and continued gay fantasy's made for hsi insecure status is if anyone needed telling!

TAM - Started with the worst club in scotland and finished higher than other underachieving clubs and dud managers. Despite the poor squad and unfashionable wage structure proved himself on the thread and in the netgame, one for the future!

JEFF - Was poor and guilty of some boring football and performances both on the park, the thread and the chatroom. The quiet man produced some quiet results. this club and gaffer is going no where and past its sell by date!

GAZ - Stared with Dumbarton and was 1st manager to get sacked again! Ambitious Dumbarton was too hot to handle and the jump to Gretna and the ll penalty applied. The rebuilding process at Gretna is going ok and improvement is evident, only slightly!

SY - The Queens Park gaffer was complete cack, just like his defence which let in 105 goals in the 1st season. only highlight came when he signed Iclandic Krisstiansson after a game crash in preseason. How he finished last with such a prolific scorer know one will ever know, still he remained bouyant and on form in the chat room throughout. Despite being a Total Dud!

Any way thanks for the good season lads it was good fun despite being slow at times. Its only a start however takes a few season's to get going! All your time and effort is appreciated good luck in season 2, see you all in the SPL!

Peterhead H 4-1

For what was going to be an important last few games loosing at home was simply not an option. Both teams started well enough but Stirling’s Napoli and Hat trick hero Mclean (M.O.M) was the difference with his three goals, praise has to be given for the superb support play from the midfield.

Manager of the month Stewart Robertson.

Albion Rovers A 4-7

As the score line suggested our defence had an off day but thanks to an Elliot Hat trick (M.O.M), two by Mclean and great midfield goals from Wilson and Devine who is developing at a fantastic rate it was an easy win in the end. 11 goals made it great entertainment for the fans and manager Robertson was happy to walk with all the points. Our only minus was the loss of Samuel in our defence due to injury.

Cowdenbeath A 4-2

Simply a poor display that seen Stirling not handle that old chestnut of the full attacking central midfielder. By the time manager Robertoson could make the tactical changes needed it was too late. Manager Robertson later emitted that not shaking the cowden’s managers hands at the end was a bit sour grapes and apologises but at the time he was more interested in the other results. He did have time to praise Lee potter for Cowden as the man of the match.

Queens park 9-3 H

Although Queens fought back near the end and take 3 goals Stirling were always in control. With nine goals, yes nine- four from Elliot, two from Mclean and Rowe, O’Brian and Devine all hitting the back of the net it was a comfortable win with Queens looking tactically poor at times. O’Brian is our only disappointment with injury. Queens could in my opinion do so much better if they kept it simple on the park and kept the fancy tactics for later.

With three games to go and so much at stake we are thinking of changing the rules, we will still have three rules, but they will read slightly differently;

Rule 1: WIN

Rule 2: WIN

Rule 3: WIN

Stranraer H 4-0

This was a very important game, the biggest this season so far. If we were to win it was promotion for us. Manager Robertson was expecting more from Stranraer but full understood that the mid week game had taken it’s toll on them. Elliot (M.O.M) scored two, his first in the nineteenth minute and Mclean his partner in crime was also in scoring form as was Wilson. Even with the sending off Anderson Stirling we were still to strong. Manager Robertson was pleased to be promoted at the very least and praised Stranraer Efforts this season and suggested that this team will be challenging again for the title in the 3rd next season.

Barry Elliot got player of the Month and David O’Brian young player of the month.

Montrose A 0-1

This was a massive game, with the winner going on to win the title in all probability. Stirling has had poor results when Montrose have been involved and manager Robertson jumped for joy when Napoli hit the back of the net with a sweet effort. With (M.O.M) Okikiolu holding the back line that was tested to the limits right to the end. Montrose will rue there missed chances in this game. Manager Robertson was ecstatic about the win which only shows his respect for the well organised Montrose squad. “this was the game we wanted to win and sets us up for the title, we can only throw it away ourselves, If we win the title that would be fantastic in the company we are inâ€

Scott Mclean and Barry Donnachie were selected in team of the year, how Elliot missed out we will never know.

East Stirling A 1-1

Manager Robertson is getting sick of using “this is the biggest game so far†but a draw or a win would see us crowned rightly so champions. East Stirling scored in the first four minutes but Stirling fought back in the thirteenth with a class Mclean goal. Stirling then went on to camp on the East Stirling goal and missed chance after chance and Manager Robertson could only look on in disbelief as East’s goalkeeper (M.O.M) was giving his performance of the season. The news that Montrose looked like winning only made this game worse.

“Whistleâ€

Manager Robertson ran on to pitch punching the air as news filtered that Stirling had won the title on goal difference.

“This is simply fantastic and the lads deserve it for all there hard work. The back room staff and the fans have been superb and we can only look forward to next season.â€

“ I can only praise my team with Elliot & Mclean being on fire all season, the midfield was moulded to play attacking 442 football and when the defence got sorted out in the end it all seemed to click. In all one hundred and six goals that’s amazing, it’s a very proud moment for everyoneâ€

“We are the Champions my friendsâ€

"Falling away near the end"?

When i left Airdrie, they were a point off promotion, and on a 4 game winning streak. And when i last checked with 2 or 3 games to go, they were second, pushing Deano's Stenny out of the promotion spots.

And im so disappointed with Thistle. After winning the first 3 games, i really thought we could do it. Alas, it was not to be, and i look forward to resuming Hostilities with Messrs Turpie & Dean and "The Lizard", Scottish Footballs very own Barry Fry, with his 25+ bosman signings. How he will manage to persuade a squad of 50 players that theyll get regular games is beyond me.

By the way, who took the Airdrie job?

Dont know what happened last night but the plug got pulled on me with my isp icon_mad.gif (useless Barstewards) , it was a technical fault.

I was sorry to miss the run in and my chance for promotion being quashed.

Thanks for the not too bad evaluation Turps, it could have been worse I could've got sacked! icon_razz.gif

arbroath.jpg

After spending two horrible months in Dumbarton, the Arbroath board pleaded with me to return, and so I did. The fans lined the streets to welcome me back, and we knew we would do great things together. Well, unless a better opportunity came along, after all you can't afford to be loyal in football these days.

My return was a home match with promotion chasing Hamilton, and despite being outplayed for most of the game, we grabbed a 90th minute equalizer to steal a point. Which was nice. For us at least.

Away to Airdrie, and we were involved in an eight goal thriller. Sadly though, five of them game for the home side. Well at least on the bright side we did score three, and that can't be bad.

An excellent backs to the wall performance against Stenhousemuir saw us triumph 3-1, and left me asking the question, why can't these fuds play like this everyweek icon_confused.gif

The season ended with a nice 1-0 win at Dumbarton, and then a silly 1-1 draw with East Fife, which quite sums up how we've been, as we end a decent enough 6th.

Its been a strange season as one week we look brilliant, and the next we look like Peterhead. But I'm sure that once the younger players in the squad start to develop, we will push for promotion. Whether thats next season or not is anyone guess, as we have no money to spend, and will have to rely once more on picking up the scraping left by the over zealous signing routines of Ally and Bod.

Still, mibbe an SPL job will open up in the near future icon_wink.gif
