Gretna make a flying start to the season, 4 league games gone and Gretna can be happy in the fact that they took 10 points out an available 12. However things looked bad in the first game against Queens Park when we went in 3 - 0 down at the half however the boys rallyed together in the 2nd half as we took a point out the game.

No one is under any illusions that this season is going to be easy far from it we know it's going to be tough with so much class in the division and a lot of hungry managers out there looking to prove a point. We just have to be that bit hungrier that bit more motivated because i know we have the players to challenge and i know that we should be up there but time will tell.

The transfer window in now closed and i can confirm my transfers.

The big question, as Kilmarnock made their way up to Arbroath for the First Round League Cup tie, was whether the Second Division leaders could possibly upset the side who sat 3rd in the SPL at that point. This would be a huge test for the young side I was building, and getting to half time still goalless, we had done very well indeed.

Two minutes after the restart, Greg Denham headed home from a corner, and we had a sensational lead. It didnt last though, as Kris Boyed scored twice for Killie to send them ahead, but one thing this young team seems to be learning is fighting spirit, and on 72 minutes Oliver Parker pulled us level once more. The 90 minutes came and went, and we had gained a very respectable draw. Three minutes into the extra period, Steins sent us into a sensational lead, and somehow we managed to hold on for a fantastic result.

On the back of that result we had to entertain a Hamilton side who seemed to have the Indian over us. They are always very well orgnized, and I knew this would be yet another test of our early season ambitions. As we fell behind after just eight minutes, I was already tearing out what little hair I had left, but two fine strikes from Thompson saw us take a lead into the break. Hamilton though were always dangerous, and with 19 left to play they won a penalty, and it looked as if we would have to settle for a point. Young defender Murphy though had other ideas as he hit what was surely the winning goal seven minutes from the end, and in injury time, Thompson completed his hatrick, and a very nice win.

Away to Morton, the first of four away games on the trot, and we were happy to take a point in a no score draw. I wasn't quite so happy as our League Cup dream was strangled at Tyncastle. A goal in each half sent Hearts through, as they did their best to con the referee who felt fit to send two of our teenagers off, and also gave the Tarts a penalty, although Monin saved it. Perhaps its an indication of how far we have come that I was very dissapointed in the manner of our defeat.

Just after the Hearts game, I was offered the postion of Montrose manager, and it was certainly very tempting. However, I feel we have a chance to achieve something here, and decided to decline the offer. A few days later I was already regretting that decision, as we travelled to Dumfried and were murdered 3-0 by Queen of the South. Thanks guys for vindicating my choice.

Our fouth away match in a row was at Airdrie, and we were utterly pathetic. Two late strikes made the scoreline a lot more respectable than it should have been, and even although Airdrie have a decent side who are doing well in Europe, losing 6-3 simply isnt acceptable. Monin took the brunt of my anger, but he wasn't the only one who had let himself down in a big way.

Yet all is not lost, and in a superb home display against Dumbarton, Griffths hitting two glorious 40 yard strikes, added to by Sruthers and Edwards, and we sit in 3rd place on 17 points, the same as Dumbarton and just two behind Montrose. Promotion might well be just asking that bit too much yet, but if we can sort out our silly away form, then we really must have a chance.

Partick Thistle - The Great Glasgow Alternative

With an aging squad and a few bodies that were perhaps earning way above their level, coupled with a huge debt mountain, this season was always going to be one of rebuilding for the Jags. A good start to the season, notably in the cup competitions, would pave the way for Thistle to recover their position off the field, and maybe even on it.

Pre-Season came and the merry go round started. Things were perhaps a tad Mental as

McGuinness instigated a full scale clearout and rebuilding of the youth side.

In particular, McGuinness was pleased to have achieved the services of an excellent club captain and Portuguese international in Paulo Madeira, and the striking Prowess of SPL centre forward Juan Sara. The capture of Villa keeper Stefan Postma was the one which set the journalists notebooks racing though, as the 24yr old Dutchman had been widely tipped as a future international ahead of his move north.

In the youth ranks , a completely rebuilt Jags U-19 team looked a sure thing to pick up the U19 league title this season. The manager had high hopes for a number of the youngsters , and in particular Andy McDonalds , Anthony Clark and Kevin Gray, who all showed ability and maturity beyond their years (impressive in Clarks case,as he is only 14). Alas , with the arrival of so many players, the revolving door had to balance on the other side.

The loss of Grady , Murray and Fleming was purely down to budget. The club was paying those players a considerable sum for performances which simply didnt justify their salaries. Younger players like Docherty, Howie and Boyle were moved on as the manager felt he had developed them as far as they could go, and they simply werent going to go any further.

The remainder of the kids released were from the Thistle youth program, which this season has failed to develop any decent kids due to lack of funds and staffing issues. The manager hopes this season will bring a bumper new crop of kids after the improvements made in the backroom staff and training facilities.

And so to the season. A rocky start, but a stunning fightback to form.

Challenge Cup 1st Rnd - Elgin City 0 - 2 Partick Thistle

An easy away tie to open the season. Elgin's pre-season buys werent up to much, and their league form suggests they wont be contenders this season for anything in their division. Goals from Miller (pen 37) and Waddell (48) wrapped this one up early, and the Jags minds began to wander to more important matters, beginning the next Saturday at Caledonian Stadium.

Inverness Caley Thistle 0 - 0 Partick Thistle

The battle of the Jags saw a stalemate which pleased neither manager. The weather put paid to any ideas of flowing, passing football, and the scarcity of chances was so great that Football First didnt even show the highlights.

Challenge Cup 2nd Round : Partick Thistle 2 - 0 Montrose

The scoreline didnt accurately reflect the effort put in by Montrose in this one. A battling performance from the Division 3 champions saw several early efforts worry the home defence , but in 10 minutes , Ricky Waddell got on the end of a Panther through ball, and opened the scoring. Then from a Waddell corner , Panther rose at the near post to nod home the second. After that, Thistle shut up shop, and invited 'Trose to come at them , but it never happened. The Blues manager must have been wondering what it takes to get his team to up their game against the big boys this season after their cup heroics of last year.

Partick Thistle 0 - 2 Forfar

The managers here had butted heads 4 times before in Division 2 the previous season, and both knew what to expect from their opponents. The jags boss however, was not prepared for the opening goal , an absoloute screamer from 30 yards by Kevin Byers , leaving Postma wondering what hit him. The boss urged his players forward, but despite a lot of pressure, Forfar hit on the break in the second half , and after Postma dropped an Oskarsson shot, Porhalsson was on hand to tap home the 2nd , and final goal of the match. Thistles first major test was a serious failure.

Stenhousemuir 1 - 1 Partick Thistle

Division 2's other promoted team invited the Jags along for a real scrap at Ochilview. Despite a limited summer signing spree, Stenny have a really battling squad, and so they were stirred into action in 18 minutes when a Waddell cutback found Buchan lurking 18 yards out, and the Jags midfielder steered a powerful shot into the bottom left hand corner. 15 minutes later, it was level, Lauchlan taking advantage of some slack defending to nip in and slam a close range effort past the unfortunate Postma. In 66 minutes, former jag Gaughan was sent off for an over the top challenge on Panther, but Thistle couldnt make the man advantage count, and it stayed one all. Afte 3 league games , Thistle had 2 points, and their hated local rivals next in the cup.

Challenge Cup 3rd Round : Clyde 3 - 2 Partick Thistle

This was a sore one for Jags fans to take. Clyde dominated the opening 45 , scoring through Gilhaney (15) , McConalogue (44) and then starting the second half where they left off , making it 3-0 with a goal from Carella in 62 minutes (which was blatantly offside).

McGuinness shuffled the pack to good effect , and in 68 minutes , a penalty was awarded for a push on Buchan , and Madeira stepped up to have his initial effort saved, but to put home the rebound. And on 84 minutes , the goal of the game as Waddell beats 2 defenders and rounds the keeper to make the last 6 minutes extremely uncomfortably for the Bully Wee. Unfortunately its not enough, and Thistle go out of the cup at an early stage. The next game was the crucial promotion derby with Falkirk, and defeat was unthinkable .....

Partick Thistle 1 - 0 Falkirk

The Mercenary army showed up at Firhill in their Porsches , Mercedes , Ferraris and Bentleys , but since they had to leave them in the car park, proved to be all money and no bottle. The Falkirk attack was at times quite potent , Lamptey getting free on a number of occasions , but restricted to long range shots. Thistle on the other hand played some attractive, short passing football , which resulted in the only goal of the game, a short range strike from Juan Sara, his first for the club, in 41 minutes.

Manager Shaw complained about everything from the officials to the pitch to the club carpark, but in the end, he should have been complaining about the lack of fight shown by his players.

League Cup 2nd Round - Partick Thistle 4 - 0 Albion Rovers

The gulf in class on display here was massive. A Sara double (23,49) , a first goal from 14yr old kid goals Anthony Clark (82) and a coup de grace from Ricky Waddell (88) was enough to see off a miserable Albion side, who to make matters worse had Scott O'Brien sent off in the 90th minute for a 2nd bookable offence. The Jags even had the luxury of a missed 75th minute penalty from Clark. The 3rd round sees the Jags travelling to Tynecastle to take on Scotlands third force, Hearts. Should be a cracker.

St Mirren 0 - 3 Partick Thistle

An excellent display from the Jags , defending stoutly (apart from an early wobble) , and in 12 minutes , Sara picks the ball up 25 yards from goal and slides a delightful pass into the path of Manny Panther, who slots home from 6 yards. Its all Thistle , Panther going through the middle at will, and when his ball out wide picks out the ever impressive Kosovskyi, a 20 yard blaster sails into the top corner, and with 2 minutes to go till half time, its 2-0. And the Jags arent finished there, oh no. As the ref is about to blow for full time , Ricky Waddell collects a long ball from Lilley , and throws a brilliant crossfield pass to the unmarked Kosovskyi , and the little russian dynamo powers home from the angle to make it 3-0 at Half Time. The second half is full of endeavour but the legs tire on both sides, and nothing of any note occurs, so the match finishes as it was at Half Time. Thistle moving up menacingly.

Elsewhere , a missed 86th minute Stenny penalty, and a 90th minute Oskarsson winnner move Forfar 3 points clear at the top and 4 ahead of Thistle. Falkirk's continue to have the best pitch in the league, after having £50k a weeks worth of ****e playing on it every second Saturday.

Partick Thistle 3 - 0 St Johnstone

A really big game this one. Saints had done over promotion contenders Falkirk and Forfar in consecutive weeks, and sat 2nd in the league. If Thistle were to go anywhere this season, they needed to win this one, and when Juan Sara took a Manny Panther through ball in 11 minutes to smash one high into the net, things were looking up. After a scrappy finish to the half , Thistle came flying out of the blocks , and after a good 20 minutes of constant posession , Jamie Buchan collected a Waddell cross 25 yards out and hit a rocket into the top corner which had the commentators reaching for their superlative dictionaries.

To finish it all off, Waddell picked up a fluke/wonderstrike from the corner of the area, which seemed to be a cross, but was hit with such venom that all the keeper could do was palm it onto the post and in. A really comfortbale win for Thistle which the fans hadnt expected. The Jags move into 2nd place, but the chasing pack are very close behind, and Forfar still lead by 2 points after dropping points at home to Clyde.

At this point, the Manager would like to take time out to publicly thank keeper Stefan Postma. The dutchman really was playing like a diddy for the first month of his stay at Firhill, but after some criticism, has buckled down and really done well in training, which has resulted in a string of excellent performances including 5 consecutive clean sheets.

Partick Thistle 3 - 0 Ross County

Another excellent home performance sees Thistle open the scoring early, Kenny Milne rising at the near post after 11 minutes from a Waddell corner, and bulleting home. Constant home pressure looks to pay dividends in the first half, and with 33 minutes on the clock , Manny Panther pounces on a Kosovskyi cutback and slams one home from 10 yards to double the lead. Into the second half, and a Waddell corner causes panic at the near post , and Kosovskyi scores a brilliant diving header to make it 3-0 Jags. Then the Russian turns provider ,a brilliant cross bringing a shot on the turn from Juan Sara that slams against the post and out to safety.

After the match, McGuinness praises the efforts of the team, but in particular the kids , Andy McDonald (16) and Anthony Clark(14) who have both performed brilliantly since their surprise inclusions in the squad.

The lge cup 1st rnd match with Div 1 side Ross County looked good for East Stirlingshire and as it was a home fixture boss Burnett was confidant his Babes were up for the task at hand, and up for it indeed they were, the lowly Scottish Third Division side held their more illustrious 1st div comrades at 1-1 for most of the 90mins, and they battled valiantly hitting the woodwork on two occassions before County scored a wonderful freekick from 25yds to end the tie 2-1 winners.

Lge duty beckoned and the 'Shire' made their way to Albion Rovers for what Shire boss Burnett had described as a difficult prospect. It was shameful that the Albion fans failed to turn out for this fixture, a total of 449 die hard pensioners and a mystery tour from Largs passed through the turnstyles, obviously a showing of People Power and the Albion fans were voting with their feet, disgruntled, disillusioned, and disatisfied with a management structure that had no direction nor comprehension of the leadership qualities required to guide this club to its former glory.

Albion Rovers, the victims of a rape and pillage raid by the young Commancheros of East Stirling 4-8, were helpless and un-coordinated and every attempt by their bench to "improve" matters made things worse, their nemisis on this occassion English schoolboy Rooney (Whom Shire boss Burnett seem's to remember being LOL'd at by the Rvrs boss at the time of signing) not only did he make the desicisive runs and passes which made the goals, he also bagged a brace himself.

When asked if Rooney was THE wonder signing, 'Shire' boss Burnett replied calmly "No, he is only one of a handful of players we brought in over the summer to strengthen area's in the side where we were severley lacking strengh and depth, there are others sitting in the wings awaiting their turn under the spotlight, its a very exciting group of young talent we brought in, Rooney has hit a very rich vein of form at the moment, but we are treating the guy with respect for his carear, we wont "overplay" him, we will use him where and when appropriate, but you guy's are missing the point here, your concentrating on one player, its a team game, there are eleven players out there in 'Shire' jersey's, each has to compliment the other, they have to gel and work as one unit, there are no "superstars" here, they know they have to work for each other within the confined's of a realistic, progressive and flexible structure which we have at East Stirling and this term we are seeing the results of this.

Berwick Rangers at Firs Park, Boss Burnett was unsure what to expect from the newly relegated border side, obviously desparate to return to the higher division, and he erred a little on the side of caution at kickoff, but after 20mins, when he saw there was no real threat he allowed the Commancheros to express themselves and took the game to the visitors,

a Naismith hatrick and another towering header by Lawson saw this match end 4-1 for the home side.

When left wingback Humphreys saw red, 'Shire' boss Burnett expected a torrent from home side Stranraer but it never came, the 'Shire' controlled this match throughout the 90mins netting three goals in a splendid display of controllled football.

Peterhead at Firs Park and a fixture against most pundits favourites to take the division title, Burnett expected unrelentless pressure on his goal, he waited and waited and waited but it never came and what did come was disorganised and uneventful, the 'Shire' left this match 3-1 victors.

When Queen's park scored in the first min at Firs Park, 'Shire' boss Burnett feared the worst, many had predicted that QP would win promotion this term and were a team to be feared, apparently not, East Stirling are no longer over awed by so called reputations of teams in this division, and if you want a reputation come and earn it...QP earned nothing in the match except a damn good hiding, 6-2 winners the 'Shire' go from strengh to strengh, 'Shire' boss Burnett has forgiven Lawson for the O.G. which gifted QP their second goal.

9 lge games into the season and the 'Shire' have won all but one, that disasterous result away to Gretna, which saw a massive overhaul of the 'Shire' defensive structure by boss Burnett.

Who would have predicted that the 'Shire' would be sitting 5pts clear at the top of the third?

Who could have predicted that the 'Shire' would take on and humiliate the 'big reps'?

We are forced to remember the words of 'Shire' boss Burnett "No more messing", remember these words "You have been warned"

I have to unfortunately second Sy's opinion here. Last night, during another online game, the computer turned itself off for no apparent reason, and has not turned back on since. After various acts of removing/replacing things within the system, i have had to conclude that its beyond me to fix the f'ing thing, and itll have to go back under warranty to be replaced.

Biggest Downer : The CD Rom drive contains my CM03/04 CD, and thus short of paying my local ripoff merchants another £35 for the game, I will not be playing it for the foreseeable future.

I am sad to hear the ferret will be missing from the clan game icon_frown.gif; I always take an interest in the other divisions and felt it could have been QP season. Anyway I hope you get it all sorted soon and back in the game. Hay if so can I buy that striker guy you have you know the S*it hot one I’ll pay top dollar, only joking big man icon_wink.gif

Also to the Lovechild all cd Roms have a small hole in the front, this releases the eject mechanism and will let you open the tray. Just get a paper clip and straighten it and gently push it through the hole and the door should open, some do need a bit of pressure to open but don’t over do it. If you’re sending it back its best to get such things out of the machineand for god’s sake don’t mention you opened the case some warranties are void if you do.

“You don't need the CD to play with 4.1.5, apparentlyâ€

This is true but I think you were thinking more about reinstalling it on another machine so you need the disk. I hope you get the machine working soon.

Alloa A 2-1

A disappointing match that seen united fight back into the game to late with new signing Barry Elliot making an immediate impact with his goal and was unlucky not to get another. Williams (M.O.M) was our stand out player.

Stirling H 5-0

The Diamonds were simply rampant with Elliot (M.O.M) with his two goals and outstanding playmaking. Jaconelli was also on the score sheet with Williams. Manager Robertson was delighted and commented “Eyebrows were raised when I brought Elliot in to the team for 65K but he is simply a class finisher and I know what to expect from him, its money well spent and the fans will enjoy him."

Montrose A 1-0

Airdrie deserved at least a point out of this game with high flying Montrose just shading it with the Bruno Viegas goal. Airdrie will have to get into the habit of winning away if we are to make any impact this season.

UEFA CUP Torpedo Moscow H 2-0

With Elliot unable for selection Alan Gow (M.O.M) was brought in and what a job he did with his two goals that makes this round a lot safer Manager Robertson was more pleased with the fact of a clean sheet and the fact that over 10,000 fans turned out. United can now look forward to the next match knowing Moscow have it all to do.

Brechin H 5-2

A great game to watch with United in control. Goals from Elliot (M.O.M), Gow, Dunn, Docherty and Hore. The whole team performed and its great to see goals from five players. Manager Robertson commented “Again I have to praise Elliot who was our star player, the Fans are realising just what a talent he is and why I made sure I continued my working relationship no matter the cost, at this rate that 65K will be money in the bank. Brechin did fight back to get two goals but it was to little to late.â€

Arbroath H 6-3

With nine goals it was worth the entry fee. Elliot scored before being injured and replaced with Vareille who was our super sub with two great goals. Bell (M.O.M) scored with Dunn and Docherty also on the score sheet. Our defence was our only concern letting in three goals but when our team is scoring for fun we can live with it.

UEFA CUP A Torp. Moscow 1-2

Moscow took the lead in this game to give manager Robertson a fright, with the Agg 1-2 the tie could go either way. With the away goals from Bell and Vareille (M.O.M) the manager and fans could relax and look forward to the next round. Manger Robertson looked pleased and said simply “After the early scare I was happy we could score away in Europe at this level. Airdrie can only raise there profile with European results like this and long let it continueâ€

Hamilton A 1-1

After a gift of a goal from the Hamilton Keeper United looked good for the points and controlled most of the match. It was unfortunate that we slipped up in the last few minutes to see Hamilton equalize. Alan Gow (M.O.M) took his goal well and was patted on the back when he was subbed right before Hamilton scored by Robertson.

Diamonds Banter

I was glad to see the Stirling Albion Job taken and it will be interesting to see if anyone goes for the Montrose job, could we see a complete turn around on Monday with the Montrose Manager returning? icon_biggrin.gif

Just re-apply to Montrose, Stirling have a good wee team but it’s got a killer loan at 14K a month and is something like 120K debt and needs a wage budget . All the team needs is a lucky Old Firm cup game to get it going. But hey the previous incumbent of the job must have been absolutes Class to get them into the 2nd before he jumped ship icon_biggrin.gif

As far as I know your old job is still there for the taking, but I bet some have there eye on it.

Its been a while since my last update so here's a long one.

Hamilton 1 - 1 Stirling

It was the first game of the season and Hamilton played well, they took the lead in the 63rd minute after Waddell finished off a superb team goal. But it wasnt to be as they lost a penalty in the 74th minute which Pretswell took great pleasure in putting in the back of the net. It was a pretty evenly matched game with chances for both teams.

Clyde 3 - 0 Hamilton

The Accies made a sharp exit from the Challenge Cup as they were defeated by Clyde at Broadwood. They were never in the game and never threatened the Clyde keeper very much.

There was a late signing for the Accies as they announced the arrival of Joe Gamble The tireless midfielder, it is thought Watson had been chsing the youngster for a while but has only just managed to agree terms.

Montrose 1 - 0 Hamilton

Hamilton tried desperately hard to hold back the Montrose attack and they did right up until the 75th minute when Bruno Viegas scored a great goal. He had broke free from his marker and had time to line up a shot which the keeper had no chance of saving. The defensive errors are still costing Accies points.

Hamilton 5 - 0 Brechin

It was a dramatic turnaround in the clubs fortunes as McGeachie scored a great header in the first ten minutes and everytime Accies got the ball after this it seemed to end up in the back of the net or in the Brechin half. Great display of skill and talent .

Morton 3 - 2 Hamilton

It looked as if it were all over the Lanarkshire men at half time as they ended the first half with a 3 goal deficit, but they came back out with some fighting spirit and managed to get back two goals but unfortunately the task to get another in the last 4 minutes was just too much and another three points are lost.

It hasnt been the start to the season watson had hoped for, while the team is playing well they arent getting the goals and it seems likely that we may see a new striker being signed very soon.

St Johnstone 4 - 1 Hamilton

After a brave display and making a comeback from a goal down it all went wrong for the lanarkshire men as they lost 3 goals in extra time.Tired heavy legs and a lack of fitness failed them and they will be very tired after a very hard match in terrible weather conditions.

Arbroath 4 - 2 Hamilton

The scoreline flattered the league leaders as Hamilton were more than a match for them but were unforunate to lose two very silly goals near the end of the game. Hamilton need to turn this bad spell around soon or the fans will be deserting them.

Hamilton 1 - 1 Queen Of The South

Still no win for Accies, and that takes it to four in a row. Things are not looking good and changes are going to have to be made. They had the game as they scored in the first fifteen minutes and it took QOS another 65mins to get the equaliser.

Dumbarton 0 - 0 Hamilton

Yet another game were points have been lost , there was many chances but Accies failed to find the touch they so needed.

Alloa 0 - 2 Hamilton

It's been 5 games but Accies have managed to secure 3 points.

A great pass from Maxwell saw Waddell get past the defenders and it was only him and the keeper, he won as it flew into the top corner. The second goal came from a penalty which was a dubious decision but the Accies wont be complaining too loudly.

Hamilton 1 - 1 Airdrie

A good draw with local rivals Airdrie although it looked as if they were about to be defeated again until the 89h minute and Ryan Maxwell managed to send the ball round the keeper.

Hope your not too bored icon_biggrin.gif

Woes to be had as Gretna slump out another cup competion, but decent form in the league keeps Gretna in the top half.

The defeat at Cliftonhil got the session off to a bad start for us but we managed to rally round in time for the Stranraer game where we took full advantage of the Stranny gaffer being absent, Peterhead on the other hand proved to be too strong at Balmoor when they ran out winners in a 9 goal thriller.

Stop and Start consistency seen us take a further 6 points in the league with only a defeat to Berwick rangers to look back on, all in all it has been a decent start to the season but one we have to look at maintaining and we will have to stamp out some bouts of lack lustre play that has seen us concede some goals that really shouldn't have been.

The loss of Martin Cameron to a 5 game suspension will no doubt affect the team but certain players now have the chance to stand up and make a name for themselves, the form of key players at the core of the Gretna defence hasn't been too good and those in question will have to look at themselves in a view to improving their play to match their abilites and Gretna's potential.

I notice dogs has returned to Montrose after Sav was caught with his hand in the cookie jar, sneaking the good players out the back door, shocking.

Many more games got played last night then ?

Just lost the will to play on after the crash as it was a slow long night for me last night sitting on the floor as i've still not bought a computer desk.

Hay Dogs moved in Mid deal, nah to be fair the final upped bid was accepted days after he jumped ship to Albion. I then out of the goodness of my heart(aye right)withdraw the deals for the two players after what looked like he was going to stay and take on the Albion. Anyway good to see him back were he belongs. icon_biggrin.gif

Well at least I got players when the club were in limbo right after he returned with no manager, leach city. icon_redface.gif

I’ll get the old match report done, 7 matches last night but I was kicked out of UEFA Cup, I don’t know were is Sy when you need him for an UEFA opponents rundown? I could have done with it last night with Chievo.

Queen of Sth. H 3-0

I fine Match from start to finish for the diamonds, Barry Elliot (M.O.M) was his usual best and was on the score sheet along with Gow and Bell. The whole team performed well and Manager Robertson looked happy with the shift the team had put in.

Hib’s A 1-0 (Cup)

With Airdrie’s recent good from in the cups it was good to get through to the next round. The winning goal came from Baltacha and Ben Andrews was the (M.O.M). It’s on to Livingston next and lets hope we can shine in that game as well.

Dumbarton A 2-5

Airdrie dominated this game till the last ten minutes when Dumbarton scored two late goals. Luckily the Diamonds scored five, Docherty (M.O.M) scored a brilliant goal and great efforts from Dunn and Devine and two from Gow left Dumbarton in our wake.

Chievo H (UEFA CUP) 0-1

Airdrie had a disappointing two shots on goal in this match and manager

Robertson was disappointed not to at least keep a clean sheet. With Chievo scoring an away goal and the possible gulf in class it is going to be a very hard away fixture for the Diamonds.

Morton A 2-0

After recent mid-week UEFA cup exploits and its disappointment, Airdrie looked a pale reflection of there usual attacking self. Wither the players were tired or just on a low remains to be answered but Manager Robertson was unavailable for interview after the game as he drilled home what he expects from his players this season.

Alloa H 3-1

After the recent from and drop in moral it was important to get back to winning ways and (M.O.M) Barry Elliot who is simply proving after his switch from Stirling Albion that he can play at this level did exactly that with his hat-trick. Alan Gow also got on the score sheet but the stand out performances was from Manager Robertson’s signings Elliot and Devine.

Stirling A 0-1

After Stirling’s new manager returned from whence he came icon_biggrin.gif right before this match Airdrie could be thankful that this could have been a much harder match. With the

only goal coming from Gow and Anderson (M.O.M) the diamonds were glad to leave with full points.

Manager of the Month Stewart Robertson.

Chievo A 2-0

After loosing our first choice and reserve goalie due to injury it was Peter Cherrie’s (M.O.M) chance to prove himself moving from reserve team to UEFA cup. This match was as expected very hard with little in the way of chances, we lost Gow in the 33 minute to injury and Manager Robertson could sense this was not going to be his night with two good goals created for the home side.

Manager Robertson Commented

“Obviously I’m disappointed to go out of the UEFA cup but we have a positive in that our young keeper was simply outstanding tonight and if it had not been for him it could have been a lot worse. For the team it’s a great experience just to play at this level and for me it’s something to build on.â€

Dark forces conspired to stop Gretna going top, no not Rangers or Celtic but a mysterouis system crash after beating league leaders East Stirling but not to be deterred Gretna plouged on icon_wink.gif

We got off to a great start at home when we dominated Queens Park who's manager was absent due to a emergency in Mozambique. Onwards we went to Bayview and another 3 points were bagged when the East Fife defence failed to handle our wingers Ryan Baldacchino and Scott Huckerby. Gretna then went on to pull off an amazing comeback against League leaders East Stirling despite going down 3 - 0 in the first half we managed to pull ourselves together gained a point in a 8 goal thriller.

The underachievers Albion Rovers we're the next side to visit Raydale and proved to be no competition at all in a game that seen 10 goals, fortunatly 7 of them were for the home side. Last game of the session cummulated in a defeat to an ever improving Stranraer side.

As we trail East Stirling in the league we know that we can't afford too many defeats but with still another 2 games to play against the side we know that we still have a chance and we will do everything in our power to make sure we are the name on the league championship come the end of the season.

Sons on the UP

A good session last Thursday as new gaffer Dukebox settles in nicely.

Clyde 2 Dumbarton 2

Clyde won the challenge cup final 11 –10 on penalties as gaffer Jeff Duke was struck down wi the lergie at half time and was rushed to hospital. But it was a good performance from a make shift team with 7 key players either suspended or injured.

Dumbarton 2 Airdrie 5

Least said about this game the better, team were suffering from challenge cup hang over.

Alloa 2 Dumbarton 4

Chris mackie double seal the points for the sons.

It now seems I’m the manager of Stirling just when I got a half decent squad together at the rock, a school boy error in setting my hols, bit then again I’m in good company on that one

As we neared the end of the year, and half way stage in the league, the race for promotion to Division One was hotting up, with four team, Montrose, Airdrie, Dumbarton and ourselves all right in there with a shout. It was imperative therefore that we didn't throw away any more silly points, and delightfully, we did rather well.

Fifteen year old Peter Edwards secured the points with a fine brace in a good 2-0 win over Morton, and then it was time for the 1st round of the Scottish Cup. We had been drawn away to 3rd Division East Fife, and although they are crap, our away record is woeful do there was always the chance of an upset. It was probably a tighter game than it should have been, but a 12th minute Craig Steins goal was enough to see us through to a 2nd round meeting away to Threave Rovers.

Another 1-0 win was achieved back in the League, Ryan Thompson doing the damage at home to Queen of the South, a match in which Mark Angel was red carded at half time, so a good win in the end, and we kept the run of clean sheets going as goals from Thompson and Edwards saw off Alloa.

The cup match away to Threave was as expected a tought tie. This was, after all, their chance at a bit of glory by knocking out a high-flying Second Division side. In the end though, goals from Steins and Edwards gave us a 2-0 win, and we now have yet another away trip, this time to fellow 2nd Division side Hamilton in the 3rd round.

Our final match for now was against fellow promotion candidates Airdrie, but we were way too cautious, and in a game where we were clearly the better team and should have won, we had to settle for a 1-1 draw thanks to a brilliant strike from Steins.

So then, at the halfway stage, we sit in second place, and we have an outside chance of going up. But there is still a long way to go, and we wont be counting any chickens just yet...

Match Report : East Stirling

What do you want me to post?

WIN is all I can say...

and why?

I posted before the season started EAST STIRLING WILL WIN this season, but as expected, everyone else in the SCOTTISH third division has their head so much up their own erse they never saw, or didnt believe it was coming...

and at this stage in the season the rest are bailing out.. they are fighting tooth and nail for any position outwith the 3rd div...

The 'SHIRE' have faced everything they could possibly face this season, reg tactics, diablos, camoflagued diablos and every other thing thats downloadable and what happened?.. They recorded another straight 7 wins..

They are sitting 15 pts clear at the top of the 3rd div.

And Gretna.. my only threat are suddenly in decline, I dont know why, but I do know it wont last..but I am too far in front for them to catch me..Gretna boss Toner saw this and has opted to apply for a higher div team..well good luck to him..he's been there already and despite his sacking from a higher division knows the ropes.

The Third division in SCOTLAND is already won, EAST STIRLING will be crowned champions, the "managers" left are fooling themselves if they think they can halt the 'Shire'...THEY CANT, those in the KNOW can see it, civilians checking the lge table can see it, fuk's sake a blindman can see it..oops I forgot 'their jumping ship' so the other 'managers'(thats the title the game gives them)can see it, and are actively seeking 'higher rated teams'.

They seem to forget that East Stirling is the worst team in SCOTLAND and if they cant BEAT them WHO can they beat!

"But we'll have better player's in the 2nd div"

LOL its been proved that a well known club, such as FALKIRK for instance can sign every player on the planet and still be ****E and why?...not the players fault...FALKIRK are (for the benefit of civilians) based in the same town as EAST STIRLING and their supporters are looking towards their "boss" and the manager of EAST STIRLING and wondering "Whats the difference?"

"We are spending a fortune and going nowhere but EAST STIRLING spent nothing and are running away with their lge, they even beat MORTON in the SCOTTISH CUP 3-1, why is this happening?"

But that's for the board of FALKIRK to decide. but if they are commited to replacing their present "coach" for a real MANAGER then they know that there is a replacement waiting in the wings, but it will take a miracle to wrench him free from the most progressive, exciting, club in SCOTLAND, EAST STIRLING

Montrose H 0-0

It was not surprising the (M.O.M) was the Diamonds goalie Mathieson with the visiting team having no fewer then 13 shots with 10 on target. Manager Robertson basically countered the visitors counter tactic to get the point. The back line was organised and held out till full time but Montrose hit the bar a few times and there luck was just not in.

Livingston A (Cup) 2-4

With this game poised at 2-1 the Diamonds Manager was seen to have left the ground on personal business. He left the team in the capable hands of his assistant and was kept up to date on phone from the stands by amazingly another Scottish manager. With the game running into ET it ended being the Alan Gow (M.O.M) with his amazing four goals. Ayr next round.

Brechin A 2-1

After the mid-week exploits and some very tired legs manager Robertson tried to will on his team but it was not to be. Baltacha scored our only goal with everyone else looking off the pace. Disappointing and probably the manager should have went for more fit back up players for this one.

Queen of Sth. A 0-4

It’s amazing what a bit of rest can do with Airdrie back to there best. Four goals with two from (M.O.M) Elliot, one from Gow and the other from Docherty put the game on easy street. Manager Robertson used all his subs to give some of the first team a run out.

Queen of Sth. A (Cup) 1-0

After playing Queens in the league and winning convincingly this game was a bit of an eye opener for the Airdrie manager. Mathieson (M.O.M) kept the score down but the rest of the team let themselves down and Manager Robertson looked ready to express that fact as he followed his team up the tunnel.

Hamilton H 2-1

This was a match that was lost by two mistakes by our usual dependable Goal keeper. Barry Elliot (M.O.M) scored the Airdrie goal and looked really sharp with seven attempts and five on target but the ball just would just not go in.

Arbroath 1-1

A very hard fought game and a bit of disappointment to not get full points after Dunn put the side ahead. Mathieson ( M.O.M) in goal was back to his best and kept out the home team till the last few minutes.
