Strikers scoring in single striker formations, do you have a tactic?

Recommended Posts

I've been banging my head against this problem for 10+ seasons in my current save.  I've read a lot of other threads with people having issues as well.

Namely, how do you get consistent goal scoring from your front striker in a single striker formation?  I've had plenty of success (consecutive promotions, champions league appearances, all with Peterborough), but my primary goalscorers are all in the midfield.  My strikers will occasionally put together a good game or go on a short run of form, but this is inevitably followed by a 10+ game cold streak with 6.4 after 6.4 rating.

I've tried formation changes, mentality changes and every role in the book and been unable to get any consistent success.

So my ask is, if you've been able to get consistent goals out of such a situation, can you post your tactic as well as any related advice?  I'm not asking for Ronaldo numbers here, just 15+ league goals a season, and be your leading scorer.  Preferably not a free kick specialist or someone who got 8 penalties in a season, but a striker who can genuinely score in open play.

We have a bunch of tactic gurus on this forum who have posted outstanding threads, but I can't help but notice none of those have a primary striker as goalscorer.

Supply your striker.

I use a Poacher in my Ajax save the first season, even though it is Huntelaar, by far not the greatest, he still scored 10 goals overall (League, Cup, Champions League) and I'm November. I have the PI Shoot More Often combined with two Winger (support) around him.

With a Support duty the Winger’s job is to try to quickly get past his man and get in an early cross for the forwards.

Also my wingbacks are there for him as they overlap the wingers and I often get a 2v1 situation against my opponent's fullback and there will be crosses.

Really?

Any thread I write my striker is my primary goal scorer, my "Tiki taka" thread for example using the 4141DM (4123DM wide) formation.  And I think hell will freeze before @Cleon's or @Rashidi's strikers don't score for fun.

What type of chances is your forward good at scoring?  Is he a big guy and good at heading? Is he quick and able to run with the ball? Is he good at anticipating and finding space? Think about things like this to identify what types of chances to try to create.

Then you have to actually create the best quality chances of those types you can for him. That doesn't mean just swing cross after cross into a big guy and expect him to 1v6+.  In the same way if its a quick forward it takes more than just trying through ball after through ball, you need to create space and give him support.

Look at the players supporting him, do they have the ability to create chances for him or are they more selfish/individualistic? A fast dribbler that can beat his man can create space for others but does he have the attributes to take advantage of the space (assuming someone is in position to use it)

I use a one striker system and Bruno Cesar and Claudio are my strikers;

Bear in mind I play without attributes so I don't actually know if my strikers are good or not.

Just a bit :D

It's hard having two strikers who keep scoring when I only play with 1 striker. I dislike rotating people when they're scoring.
