Has anyone got a good defensive 41212 tactic? Wingbacks on defend with an anchor man.

Also how best to utilize a mezzala in a more attacking variant of the formation?

You already decided to play with WBs on defend and anchor, or just asking if that's a good idea? 

Btw, if by 41212 you are referring to the narrow 442 diamond, this particular formation is not optimally suited for defensive football.

You can use a mezzala in any variant of the formation for that matter (provided you have a suitable player for the role). I use the narrow diamond with Man Utd and my mezzala is Pogba. But one role alone means nothing if the system as a whole is not set up in the right way.
