Corperate
Hi All, When should you use the overlap instruction in a 41212 formation? Exploit the middle look for overlaps? Does this mean it will look for a wingback running forward or...... Will the wingback be the one looking to pass to an overlap? Have tried and found best success with Not exploiting either the flanks or middle. I have Kane up front so do want some crosses going in. Any help would be appreciated
herne79
Look for overlap does 2 things: 1) Tells your wingers to hold up the ball to wait for an overlapping fullback. But in this formation that's irrelevant as you aren't using wingers. 2) Increase the mentality (the willingness to run forward) of your fullbacks a little. Before you use this instruction, consider whether a) you actually need to (are your fullbacks already getting forward sufficiently); and b) the risk of increasing their mentality like this (does it leave you exposed when defending / do your players have relevant attributes to retreat quickly when the ball is lost). Also be aware of the effect which your selected team Mentality has and player Traits your fullbacks may have. So a wingback with an attack duty + the attacking Mentality + look for overlap + the trait to get forward often is going to be more like a winger and could be very risky due to being caught out of position high up the pitch when you lose possession.
