The War of the Roses

In an alternate reality, the rivalry between Lancashire and Yorkshire has been cultivated on the sporting field with an annual, 5-game series akin to cricket's Ashes. Each year, players from the respective historic counties play off against each other for the coveted Plantagenet Cup with the winner retaining the trophy for the next 12 months. Played during the 'representative season' in August, the counties play at 3 neutral venues as well as hosting one game each, with rotating grounds designed to maximise coverage of England's most coveted representative rivalry.

These updates will cover the War of the Roses from it's inception in 2013 through to its most recent game in 2019. I will include a comprehensive rundown of each series and see who will reign supreme between the two best producers of talent in the country.

Competition Rules
- 5 game series; 1 point for a win, 0 for a draw or loss
- if the series score is tied, the county holding the trophy retains it
- 23 man squad with no injury replacements allowed once the tournament has begun
- venues to include 1 in Lancashire, 1 in Yorkshire and 3 neutral venues

Merseyside - Greater London - Yorkshire - West Midlands - Derbyshire. Where is the Lancashire venue?

Historic Lancashire covered Merseyside (see the Liverpool players in the Lancashire squad

my first thought was that it would be players born in that area, but I imagine that is a lot of work in the editor to set those parameters

Historical Lancashire covers nearly all of Merseyside and all of Liverpool.

It is players born in the area/foreign-born English citizens that lived there first, I just manually selected the squads. I have an obsession with rep teams so I have a good knowledge of players and their place of birth.

Historical but not current.

West Bromwich, Wolverhampton and Walsall (among other places) used to be in Staffordshire but now they are in the West Midlands. In the early days of the Football League, Stoke v West Brom, Stoke v Wolves and West Brom v Wolves were Staffordshire derbies.
