can anyone recommend a good championship assistant?

A lot depends on the club/reputation. At better clubs I've had Paul McGuinness (ex Man Utd) who is excellent, but I've had him turn me down at a few others. Off the top of my head, Paul Bracewell, Craig Shakespeare and Robbie Stockdale have all done OK for me. Also depends on what you want them to do - for me, they're just another coach; I do my own teamtalks, press conferences etc.

Crewe - Season 4

I'd say this season was disappointing. A lot of guys underperformed and were injured so I ripped the squad up midseason and brought in some guys. That includes a new Sweeper Keeper in Jens

Here is the tactic

And here are the results

And heres some players

The deadball specialist was on the sidelines most of the year.

Versatile and performed well everywhere I put him

I hope I can buy this guy one day but he'll have stay on loan

Did ok but could do better

Still here

Also signed some hot prospects in the future. Whether or not they play here or I sell them on is up in the air

Just started out with Bolton, my first save in England on FM2020.

And oh boy, are they are a mess...

They certainly are! A great challenge though with the points penalty.

@Dong21 has been managing them in this thread for several seasons, he sets a high bar!

Welcome! Non-league to legend is always a fun trip if you survive the first stages. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you struggle a bit - many of us have been there.

Good luck

thanks Warlock and love your updates

Well I got sacked in October (in 19th they finished 22nd) :) going in with no coaching badges no rep was maybe a bad move as the senior players hated me from day one, surprisingly managed to sign one very good youngster from Ireland who I will try and get back if I can get back into English football. Had to go to Northern Ireland Div 1 for a gig and kept a side up who were doomed in Feb, actively looking for any job back in England as we speak

Not unheard of . And, yes, starting without experience or badges is always a struggle - I always let the game set the recommended levels. But good luck with the current gig... I take it you're playing a journeyman career?

I am now sir :) Just been laughed at applying for Sligo so this could end faster than it started. Did a quick trial run with Macclesfield which I might start again

not even started season but been busy, pleasantly surprised with some of the quality I got maybe the dregs as I joined late pre season but we now have 2 players per position and an actual squad, feel more attached to this save already .

Couple I am hopeful with defensively Hockenhull from Man Utd and very cheap wage be surprised if I can keep him that long, and Reeves from Chesterfield who looks to have plenty of potential.

Attacking wise bought in a few very raw pick of which is probably Conor Carty from Wolves got enough about him to at least reach conference national if he develops and again a cheap wage

thanks all

  • 2 weeks later...

Not been many posts in here for a while so I am going to change that with my next save.

I am going to do a save with Burton Albion, I am going to make it as hard as possible for me by only signing free transfers and British players only. Mostly playing my youth team players.

I had a great save doing the same thing with Burton on FM 2019 so hopefully to replicate it and post in here.

Good news, and good luck

I still have a Brentford save on the go, but been concentrating on my French save with Lens - I find it difficult to switch between saves (bear of small brain, I am).

Yeah I just get bored of saves after a few seasons lol. I think this Burton save wont be boring for me as I will be putting a lot of restrictions with it.

Burton Albion Season 1 - August & September Results

image.jpeg.8b78dc856bdb116f6156a1adf1f3a2d6.jpeg

The season started badly with 3 losses in a row but I then bounced back with 5 wins in a row including a win against Sunderland on Penalties in the Leasing.Com Trophy.

No standout player yet but that is expected after only 8 games.

image.thumb.png.c60edfeae219dc4d04e88baaafcf4b00.png

I had a small squad and I knew first season I would need to bring in some players. I looked at the loan market and freebies. The board wants me to sign Scottish players so I will be looking into doing that eventually.

Burton Albion Season 1 - September and October Results

image.jpeg.ca9baf4533bc0bc9f2ffe3aa9210c268.jpeg

A good run of results through the Setepmber and October months. Some nice wins over Portsmouth, Rotherham, Bolton etc.

I got embarassed by Fulham in the Carabo Cup by losing 4-0

image.thumb.png.14816f5df82e5c1f9355146f78c8decc.png

I currently sit 6th in the league which I am happy with, It keeps me in the Play Offs coming into the Winter months.

image.thumb.png.53cc518f5227a0186066a8e008e60811.png

As you can see my star player is Olivier Sarkic with 8 goals so far. image.thumb.png.50245ab5a8eb9bcb09f718c7d0b3bcf7.png

There are some records you just don't want to deal with :D. But that's not a bad start to the season!

I got a nice little FA Cup run so far, through to the 5th round against Leicester.

I have made some decent money from this Cup run and hope it continues as Burton's finances are rubbish but that is why I like playing as Burton as you never have much money to buy anyone until you get into the Prem so I just enjoy penny pinching and signing freebies. I just signed Max Clayton on a free so a blast from the past with that one.

image.thumb.png.f640e41f018e59d0cbb59d3b27fa003b.png

I also managed to get the board to improve my Junior Coaching and Youth Recruitment.

image.thumb.png.ed90d1b1794cb0c4471222027c59e819.png

I could do with getting into the Championship though as I said earlier the finances aint too good at the moment.

I won my first silverware with Burton by winning the Leasing.Com Trophy. I also got £100k for winning it which will help the finances.

image.thumb.png.25c6071d33a112028be348971375dac1.png

Fixtures wise I have done well the last few months. Picking up a lot of wins and barely losing.

I did lose to Leicester in the FA Cup 5th round 6-1, I did make decent money from that though to help the finances again.

image.thumb.png.55c462d239d785abe7fd390df7e77b0e.png

Its very close at the top of the table with just 3 points seperating Burton in 4th place and Oxford who are top.

image.thumb.png.ed0b133158d2e4890bfecb204d906133.png

Oliver Sarkic continues to be the main main at Burton with 19 goals in 39 game so far.

image.thumb.png.14fd33f4f3c50176fda14cc1b7ff8d44.png

Aussie player Ryan Edwards continues to do well with 8 goals. 10 assists and the best average rating at the club.

I am looking into that. I think I have Spurs as a parent club so I will see who they can loan me.

I am desperate need of decent defenders.

I will update when I get home from work.

Thank you for the suggestion.

Nathan Wood was good, Foso-Mensah pretty good, Kasanwijo was okay. I have seen Sepp? & Hoever from Liverpool v.good

Season 2 Transfers

Main transfers in were Kieran O'Hara a goalie I had on loan last season signed from Man Utd on a freebie.

image.thumb.png.6e6546d71c8d35d20bd98567eda8b36a.png

Josh Hare a right back signed for £95k from Bristol Rovers.

image.thumb.png.0d5b1832e53a8a0d943af69b3397a462.png

Tom Flanagan a central defender I signed on a free transfer from Sunderland.

image.thumb.png.fabda1dde60c5fba5a0b2d0ab904ced7.png

Matty Taylor the former Bristol Rovers and Bristol City I signed on a free transfer from Bristol City and has done well so far with 4 goals from 6 games.

Top of the league after 24 league games played.

image.thumb.png.8f237eb03eeb279de8e32be36309e37a.png

Matty Taylor has been outstanding so far. 16 goals out of 24 games so far. Absoulute Burton legend already.

image.thumb.png.b4a555b238fdffcdb667e19451314200.png

Joe Powell has done well for me so far as well with 15 assists. He is Burton's version of Bruno Fernandes. Not many goals yet but that will come.

Already rated at £7m as well so might get some decent offers for him.

He could do with doing better in training though.

image.thumb.png.ed9efccdb0996ca4a92732b30d623a24.png

I desperately needed some central defenders and had no money so had to sign Kevin Long, Ethan Wassall and Mason Rubie on freebies for now.

That's very impressive for a first season back in the championship. Are you ready for Premier League football?

God no, but if I get promoted I will enjoy the challenge of trying to stay up and also the finances will greatly appreciate the extra money.

I am down to 3rd now so I might not go up after all.

Will do an end of season update tonight.

Dongu at Burton and Kean at Sheffield Wednesday, some interesting names for the fans to watch play.

Hang in there, still plenty of time left. Although you'd be better off staying there for at least another year.

Yeah I am in a win win situation whatever happens my job is more then secure and the future is bright at Burton.

I was going to finish the season last night but ate too much food and drank too much Tango and I went into a food coma and fell asleep lol.

So hopefully the season will be finished tonight.

Thanks mostly to goals from Matty Taylor, 27 goals so far this season.

I got Derby in the Play Off Semis & then if I beat them over the 2 legs I got the winner of Reading Vs Cardiff.

Wish me luck lads.

Lost 2-0 to Derby in the first Semi

Looks like a pretty close match, but looks like your front 3 had a tough day against a solid Derby defence.

Think another year's development might be a good thing for Burton.
