Player promises "Long-term aims for the club are"

Recommended Posts

Ok, I can't really get my head around this one. I'm trying to sign a player for my team in the Southern League Premier Central.

One of the promises he wants is: "Work towards a regular Southern League Premier Central place in 2020/21 by yo-yoing between divisions"

How can I yo-yo when I only have 1 season to fulfil the promise? I get religated, I fail. I get promoted, I fail. I finish mid table, I fail.

Just delete the promise- I have found that you can delete almost all of the player requests without any problem as long as they get the money they are looking for- what a surprise!

I delete all promises as a matter of course and don’t think I’ve ever had a problem. As @FrazT says, it’s all about the money

TBH, some of the player expectations when they start contract negotiations are almost laughable.  How can a player who has not yet signed demand that they take the penalties, or take the free kicks, or demand that the team qualifies for a particular competition or demand to use the shower nearest the toilet or whatever.

Only promise what you are completely sure that you can deliver on and delete the rest and I would be surprised if there are any issues

The only thing I usually keep is the current playing time promise. I'll at least have an idea of how much I'm going to play the player, so it's something I'm able to promise.

I always try to remove promises of future playing time. I can't say how well (or quickly) a player will develop, so what if I think he's not good enough for even more playing time? Or what if I sign a much better player that next year? Too many potential problems, so I try to avoid it.

Things like "improve the coaching team" etc are just too vague, so I refuse to promise something like that.
