4231 Arsenal getting Mbappe, Lautaro and Pepe playing together.

Recommended Posts

Hi all Im in my second season with Arsenal we finished 2nd first season which was pleasing but im still trying to get my favourite 4231 formation playing how I would like, we are winning but the problem is we are winning most games 1-0 very unconvincingly most players rated under 7.0, also Pepe is playing very poorly for some reason after he had a solid 1st season played as a winger attack getting 20 goals in the prem.

Please help me get the best out of my star players! even Mbappe is struggling, the poor 1v1s in this ME dont help but we should be playing much better than we are.

thank in advance!

Why have you changed his role then, to begin with?

Okay, but you are winning. Which is the only thing that really matters at the end of the day.

"Rated under 7.0 can include a number of different ratings - from 6.9 down to 5.something. So being rated below 7.0 is not necessarily a "disaster". Btw, nominal player ratings - like other match stats - can sometimes/often be misleading. That's why I prefer to watch my matches and rate the players myself, rather than relying solely on "official" statistics.

There definitely is room for improvement in your tactic, both in terms of roles/duties/instructions and player selection (for example, picking McTominay over Guendouzi ???).

But in order to offer you more specific suggestions, you first need to define/decide which playing style you want to implement (taking into account the quality and reputation of your team).

I countinued playing Pepe as a winger for the first 6 months of the 2nd season but he was terrible game after game thought it was just a dip inform but he never improved thats why I changed his role.

Winning isnt everything as many managers have round out by being sacked even after winning silverware, as a top team it needs to be entertaining and more convincing.

I like Guendouzi but also like McTominays workrate of 20

What role combination do you think would suit my front 3 the best? want to play a high pressing counter attack style.

i think with the team you have i would try to somewhat replicate the way liverpool play. i think you have 3 elite attackers but a more limited midfield with a high workrate. you have 2 good wingbacks to replicate robertson and trent too.

       Lautaro

Mbappe    Pepe

Ceballos/Guen, Torreira, Mctominay

same back 5

i know thats not what you asked but i saw your squad and i just thought it was perfectly set up for that. i would personally play lautaro as a F9/DLF to leave space for the 2 "wingers" to come into.

Thanks for your ideas im open to trying something new as 4231 doesnt seem to get the best out of them.

What role what you play mbappe and Pepe in?

Okay, you continued playing him as a winger, but maybe you changed something else in the tactic that affected him? Because everything is interrelated, and no player/role acts in isolation. Btw, sometimes player's performance can deteriorate for non-tactical reasons (unhappiness, poor morale etc.).

Counter-attack and high pressing do not really go hand in hand. You can play fast attacking football that employs intensive pressing (like Klopp) and uses counter-attacks as an extra weapon. But high-pressing counter-attacking football as a style of play simply does not exist.
