3runhomer
2 minutes into the match we got a penalty shot. My shooter missed the goal entirely ... by about 5 yards. Nice start. We had 31 shots (15 on target) and they had 14 shots (5 on target). We drew 2-2. One of our goals was from a ridiculous goalkeeper screwup. He put the ball down to kick it, but just stood there. My striker ran up from about 20 yards away and knocked it into the goal. The keeper barely moved. Classic. No goals from headers. All over the bar. No goals from 1-on-1s, but there weren’t many opportunities. Wingers are now called offside as often as strikers. They’re standing around in offside positions just like strikers always have. There were 10 total offside calls in the match, which is 5x the Premier League average in real life. Overall it didn’t seem different from a pre-update match. One match is obviously a tiny sample so maybe there are improvements that aren’t apparent yet.
3runhomer
In my second match since the update we scored from a 1v1. 1 out of 5 1v1 chances, which seems fine. The bad news is there was another absurd defensive play. My centerback tracked down a loose ball in the penalty area, but instead of keeping it in front of him he backheeled it. It went straight into the path of the other team’s striker and he immediately put it in the net. They were the only 2 players in the area (other than my keeper) so there was no reason for my centerback to backheel it. I can’t even get mad about stuff like that because it is so ridiculous. I seriously think the programmers put all of the defensive screwups in there as a joke. Edited February 10, 2020 by 3runhomer

I think that if they don’t bring it up to date soon, the game will get left behind. The mobile version is seriously the best version of all of them this year in my opinion. I started to find that after pretending it’s ok for years, I cannot watch the 3D matches any more. At least with 2D you don’t see the dodgy back heals and daft defensive and keeper errors etc etc... 3runhomer
4th match since the update: our keeper stopped a shot but didn’t handle it cleanly. One of our centerbacks ran over and put it in the net for an own goal. He absolutely crushed it and straight into the net! Ridiculous defensive screwups are totally out of control in the 20.2.4 update. A patch is needed ASAP.
3runhomer
20.2.4 update in a nutshell: human teams take 2x to 3x as many shots as AI teams, but AI teams’ conversion rate of shots to goals is much higher so they are able to draw or win often. Add in the god-awful defensive screwups and this update gets a rating of “FAIL”.
3runhomer
I learned something else after several more matches. About 75% of goals are from set pieces (including AI team goals, not just mine). It’s still fairly easy to create lots of shots from open play, but they rarely score. Corner kicks and indirect free kicks have a healthier conversion rate. So I guess a good tactic in FM 20.2.4 is to play for set pieces, train set pieces and sign some specialists in corners and free kicks. It may not be a realistic strategy but it’s all we’ve got.
