ranks39 Posted April 20, 2020 Share Posted April 20, 2020 (edited) I've decided to start up a youth development save at the lowest level of the Romanian pyramid that I could find, the 7th Division. I am using the Romanian database from the Realistic Leagues in the Steam Workshop. I have set up a medium, custom database that includes national team players, players on teams in continental competitions, and from teams in top leagues. My aim(barring a firing) is to take a club from the Romanian 7th Division to the top tier and onto European Champions using youth and academy players only. In my research of the Romanian football pyramid(thank you, Wikipedia!), I've found that there are 7 divisions of football within Romania. Obviously the top three are the national leagues, with the bottom four being county leagues. Per Wikipedia: As an aside, the Romanian Cup representation is so interesting! Each county holds a knockout tournament to determine their representative?!?!?!? How neat is that!?!?! I'v decided to start in the Mures County of Transylvania, as AS Szekelyber Bereni, the club representing the village of Bereni. The village is a part of commune consisting of Bereni and six other villages with a population of around 1,200 people, nearly 98% of which are Hungarian. Again, per Wikipedia: Also very interesting, the political representation is a majority "Democratic Alliance of Hungarians" - so, the Hungarian culture is everywhere within Mures County. Part of Mures County(Bereni included) sits within an area known as Szekely Land, which has it's own National football team, governed by CONIFA. To be honest, the 5th-7th divisions don't have much between them in terms of quality. It's been a bit since I've done such a low-level save and I've forgotten how up-and-down every side is at this level. We did well to bounce back by beating top-of-the-table Pescarii away in pretty convincing fashion. ranks39 Posted April 20, 2020 Author Share Posted April 20, 2020 Mid-Season Report I didn't realize that the league took a mid-season break for until MARCH?!?!?!, but here we are. We played one match in December, putting us at 13 of 24 completed. Following our win, we sit in fourth, just three points off of the top spot and two points off of second. This is pretty much the squad that we've been working with. Our first-choice AML broke his leg prior to the season so we've been a bit of a revolving door at that position. I've pretty much held up with the same core line-up, rotating very seldomly as we don't have a great number of fixtures. Irimescu has been our key cog in opening up defenses, hitting a very high passing % and winning the ball back in our counter-press very efficiently! Fulop has been playing in the center of my defense and has won essentially everything that has come his way. Finally, Orosz has been our quiet difference-maker. Not because of quality or any redeeming abilities but he just crops up in the perfect positions to finish chances. He has put away a number second chances that were parried by the keeper or scuffed shots by my strikers. He is just opportunistic. I guess I would also be remiss to not mention Polgar. He would likely be our leading goalscorer if he hadn't missed a couple of games after picking up a knock. I have tasked him with playing an attacking target man role, even though he is not comfortable with it but he has stayed the course and scored a few goals while he's been at it. More importantly, he has also done the dirty work required of him and opened up play for attackers to come in behind him. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

In regards to the regens, that was part of the allure of the region that I chose.... We managed to then return to league form with two wins in a row to a couple of bottom-of-the-table sides. ranks39 Posted April 20, 2020 Author Share Posted April 20, 2020 (edited) Youth Intake I was a bit disappointed to only see the one dual national in my intake and assumed that I'd see more. Obviously Kis is the biggest standout in the intake, probably stepping straight into the first team. Varga also looks an immediate contributor with decent winger skills for the level. I also think that Szabo, goalkeeper, can grow into the role. He has great size and decent skills. Overall, a couple of immediate helpers and a whole bunch to be stashed in my U19 squad. Still, we got promoted and that was definitely more than I had bargained for! I loved this reaction on the socials: Bravo Bodesti of the 4th League have offered me an interview.... tempting, but no thanks. More requests, more refusals - all Fourth League. End of year team awards Team Stat Leaders Recap We've hit our full capacity of 100 in each of our home games..... time to build a new ground?!?!?!?!? All-in-all, a truly great season and specifically in the back half of our campaign. The step up in quality from the seventh to the sixth league is not high so we can definitely compete. The crowning win was a 3-1 triumph over Fourth League side, Roseal. We are fit and ready for the season! Here is the squad we'll primarily run with. It's much of the original side that was here when I joined with a few regens sprinkled in. TRANSFERS IN - 0 / TRANSFERS OUT - 0 We've been drawn in the Romanian Sixth League - Mures County, Group A for next season We're in with a shout! We're also now allowed to join the Mures County Cup!!! We've been drawn against a fifth-division side at home in the first round! And we've only gone and dominated! Fourth League sides join in the second round.... and we've drawn one at home. Season Ticket Sales MLS Side, Inter Miami, have been active in the Romanian Market....interesting. We've followed our rivals from last year, Staruinta Galesti, into the same group. They are the class of the group. Despite drawing them, they fully dominated the match. We've sputtered a bit with a number of draws and dominating most of the matches but our form is still decent. We need Staruinta Galesti to slip up for us to have any chance to be competitive. I experimented quite a bit throughout the break and have come out the other side with a much more attacking posture that has created many more chances and we are actually finishing our chances decently. Essentially, I've converted my wingers to inside forwards and naturally they cut inside - I've also instructed my forward to be and advanced forward, rather than a target man(a role that he wasn't really suited for). Now, he is playing my inside forwards in and we are scoring much more and staying on the front foot in attack. Our pre-break goal differntial was about +4 and since the break we've played 5 league matches and now sit at +18. We've also beaten Staruinta Galesti away in a much more evenly-matched game than our previous encounters, statistically. Of course, we still need them to slip up but we do host them one more time this season. We've also progressed in the Cup. Sovata is a fourth league team and Cosoveni is a fifth league team. We've again been drawn at home to our old seventh league rivals, Inainte Panet in the quarterfinals, so I feel very good about that match. It's really all to play for down the stretch of the season! To be honest, we should have done more but I will take the result anyways. We've entered the semi-finals and it's just us and three fourth league teams. Leg 1(Away) Leg 2 - we were wasteful and we've been bounced in the semi-final Our match against Staruinta Galesti will likely decide the title. An extremely open first half.... one of their goals was because my center back, in an attempt to clear the ball, rockets it off of their forward and into the net.....ugh. WE'VE EQUALIZED LATE! We need one more! And, we've drawn.... we'll need a miracle now. What the what? What just happened???? OK - so goal difference being the first tiebreak...Goals scored is the second and we've put more past other teams.....wow, I did not expect this one bit but WE ARE CHAMPIONS and WE'RE BEING PROMOTED! A slower start and fast finish saw us catch our rivals, Staruinta Galesti, and nose them on goals scored. Our Mures County Cup run was better than expected in reaching the semi-final. Megyeri was outstanding in both his finishing and chance creation for others, pacing the team in both goals scored and assists. I've just promoted two from my most recent intake to the senior squad who I believe can provide depth. Firstly, Bodnar looks like he can be in regular rotation with my first-choice center backs. He will likely end up pairing with last year's top academy product, Laszlo Kis. And Laszlo Szabo, who can immediately split time in our defensive midfield structure. We are creating tons of chances but we are so wasteful in front of goal. We need to get on track or we will be in for a very long season. This is the squad for the year. We remain four points off of first and three points off of second on the table. Squad/Statistics As you can see, my attacking quartet make up the vast majority of goals and assists and have played great all season.
