Another Golden Generation, but no mention of any defenders. Youth Intake day. Mar 2025. As expected it's another Golden Generation, (again with all PA's at 5.0), but it's the CA that immediately catches my eye, (and the Nationalities). Squad by PPA. I don't think I have ever seen a player come through the intake with 4.5 CA before. I've definitely seen 4.0, bit don't think I have seen 4.5. Nations already represented in previous Youth Intakes. New Nations represented in this intake. You know, I've never done this feature before, (tracked the Nationalities of Youth players produced by the Academy), but I love it. It's brilliant. (25a) Paul Russon-Rubie. He doesn't look amazing, but I can tell you that 12 for both pace and acceleration at this level is pretty special, although low determination is an issue that is hard to resolve in a Youth Only save. (25c) Trevor Gibbons-Hicks is lacking a little physically, but his technical attributes probably make him the best player in the club as soon as he arrives. Jimbokav1971
Player development problems. Mar 2025. If we list the things that are key in the development of a young player, then these are some of the things that might appear. 1. Training Facilities. 2. Determination. 3. Professionalism. 4. Ambition. 5. Coaching. 6. Playing Time. The problem is that some of these are just not available. 1. Training Facilities. We're stuck on Level 2 so this isn't an area of strength. It's not something that is going to be easy to fix anytime soon with our financial limitations. 2. Determination. The left-hand column here shows the 18 best players at the club, (by PA). 8 of the 18 players have a Det value of 5 or less. That;s going to hinder their development. 3. Professionalism. Without looking at the Editor, I have no idea what the Pro levels of the squad are, but looking for a little glimpse via the personalities..... it's not looking good. Again, this is going to hamper player development. On the plus side, there are no casual and slack. 4. Ambition. Again, not a lot to go on but 1x F.Amb and 3x Unamb is not a good start. 5. Coaching. You can tell by the nicknames of my Coaches that the quality is not good. This is going to be another barrier for our young players to overcome. 6. Playing Time. This is the only area which we don't have a problem. I will happily prioritise PA over CA where it suits.

Jimbokav1971
End of Season Summary. Apr 2025. United Counties Premier Division. It's hard to judge the squad too harshly because they are all youngsters and are going to be inconsistent, but if I look at the last 11 games of the season, we only lost 1 game, kept 4 clean sheets, only conceded 3 goals once and never more than 3 goals. That's a significant improvement on the huge number of goals that we were conceding earlier in the season, where we had to score 3 or 4 goals in every away game just to get a point. The Youth Intake was great this season, especially in terms of CA and this will further strengthen our strongest XI. Final league Table. I'm not expecting to win the league next season because Northampton and Oadby look pretty strong based on this years results. Even if we add in the relegated side, I think it reasonable that we can aim for 4th next season. FA Cup. There is money to be made in this competition, but we probably need some home or favourable draws for that to happen. FA Vase. The Final is Round 8, so while the 4th Round might look good, there was a long way still to go. United Counties league Cup. We're one of the strongest sides in this competition so we should be doing better than this, but Oadby finished 3rd in the league so I can't really complain. Goal-scoring keepers. 13 goals and 10 assists is a good return for (20e) Saydee. It was also good to see a GK finish a season without missing a single penalty. It's just a shame he couldn't have also stuck in some free-kicks this season. Overall Best XI. Things are developing nicely here. We probably need to get a 2nd GK on the list to oust AHB and a 4th striker to oust James Brown. After that it's just Luke Civil who will remain as an inherited player. Awards. Squad by appearances. Discipline. Both our full-backs are prominent with regards to discipline. They are given attacking instructions and are often caught wrong-side. Finances. Facilities. We've developed significantly faster than I had expected or hoped, but I'm not sure how much I'm going to be able to extend either Coaching or Recruitment as we are and there seems no way that we will be likely to improve either Youth or Training Facilities anytime soon. Transfers. This wasn't a significant player to lose. Tracker. Records. Edited July 2, 2020 by Jimbokav1971

ellzo
Reading this I thoght back to an old thread by @Makoto Nakamura with the youth in Croatia, quite a slow burner but eventually got to the top. Hopefully you don't take as long, was 40 seasons to the Bundesliga. Though starting level 10 might be close. Going back through that thread and reading about your youth intakes reminded me of a post about English clubs with second nationalities. I have now decided a save starting at level 12 with London Samurai (second nationality is Japanese) is a good way to spend my time. Did you change anything on the editor for such a range of nationalities or is it just more diverse in FM20? I'm still on 19.

I have actually considered such a thing, but inspired Sol Campbell the label would be (Judas) I'm not bothered in the slightest with regards to players leaving, because it generally only happens when they are not playing and if they are not playing then there should be a good reason. (25c) Trevor Gibbons-Hicks is the exception to that so far, (in that he was in the starting line-up when poached), but even then I don't mind because he has been playing regularly at a higher level (Tier 7 to our Tier 9), at a club which also has better facilities. My plan is to poach him back if possible, but we probably need at least 1 promotion before that happens in this case.

It's another Golden Generation, which I'm a little surprised at considering we had a player come through the intake last season with 4.5 CA, (although it should me mentioned that he is no longer at the club and that's possibly why). Squad by PPA. We have 16x 5.0 PA players as usual Nations already represented in previous Youth Intakes. New Nations represented in this Youth Intake. Your more eagle-amongst you, (it's certainly something that I noticed quickly), is that (26e) Pratama (IDN) has a non-English name, and was born in Palu, (which doesn't sound very English, but he only has English with no secondary Nationality. Palu is indeed in Indonesia but he doesn't have Indonesian as either a primary or secondary Nationality. Very strange. (26a) McDonald. I've had a HUGE cull of players, (33 at the moment). I started with players who were no longer 5.0 PA rated and who had not featured for the Senior squad this season and then moved onto anyone with Det in single figures who didn't give me a reason to keep them when I looked for one. Jimbokav1971
Season Summary. Apr 2026. United Counties Premier Division. We were really decent this season and what cost us was an appalling September that saw us win 0 of 6 games played, taking 3 points from a possible 18. Final league Table. We went into the last game of the season with a chance of wining the title. We had to win and Northampton ON Chenecks had to draw or lose. They won and we lost. FA Cup. My priority is the league obviously. We've won the United Counties League Cup before, so no longer feel the urge to prioritise it to make sure we win it before we can no longer play in it. The FA Vase is something that I feel we should be doing better in, but it's the FA Cup where the money and real glory is. FA Vase. United Counties League Cup. Goal-scoring keepers. It was a bit of a strange season for our Keepers. (20e) Saydee scored 2 goals this season, but I wasn't happy with his actual goal-keeping and he was dropped. (24d) Simon King (WAL) was promoted to starter and he also scored 2 goals, before he was snapped up by Barnet. What makes it worse is that he was snapped up on 26th March. 10 days exactly after I had released both (20e) Saydee and (23c) Neil Akbas. It meant that we lost 3 of our best 4 GK's in the space of a few days and (24k) Gustavo Miranda (COL) finished the season but did not score. I've tried to re-sign (20e) Saydee but he's not having it. (20e) Saydee had 47 career goals by the age of 22. I think I might have been a tad hasty here. Overall Best XI. Just 2 players on the list with less than 100 appearances now and just 4 inherited players. I don't really mind Parkinson (ATG) staying on the list because he has been really significant to the save, but will happily see the others replaced. Awards. Squad by appearances. I was quite surprised to see that (21h) Sabbatus (LCA) had played so many games. 44 games is too many in my opinion. (40 games is too many in my opinion). I've just had a look and his Natural fitness isn't amazing, (13), and he wasn't subbed off a lot, so like I said it's a little surprising. The 1 player who I did ask to play a lot on purpose this season was (20a) Aaron Higginson 6'1". Discipline. I knew we were going well with the yellow cards at Christmas, but this is still a surprise. 130 is brilliant when you consider that the pitch is no longer a postage stamp and we have a proper code of conduct now too. The 4 players with the most yellow cards in our league were both our 1st choice full backs and both our 1st choice wingers. Love to see it! (20c) Aaron Harker (ML) collected 18 yellows in the league and 1 more in a Cup game to get oh so close to the magic figure of 20 that would have resulted in a very well deserved 4 game ban. A special mention should go to (25h) Ben Neville (IRL) who was sent off on his debut and didn't feature for us again this season. Finances. There isn't an awful lot going on with our finances at the moment. We had a bit of a wind-fall a few seasons ago with a decent FA Cup run, but there is very little to spend money on so it's just sitting there. Facilities. I'm really pleased with how this is going in such a short space of time. Obviously I would love to get the Training and Youth Facilities improved, but that costs cash and we need a couple of promotions 1st I think. Still, really happy with how this aspect of the save is going. Transfers. We've been pretty lucky so far in that nobody of any huge significance has left, and of those who did, I was able to re-sign everyone that I wanted to. This season is different though in that we have lost 3 1st choice players in different positions. (25c) Trevor Gibbons-Hicks is the best player we have produced and I had a discussion with @turnip& @scousevaseyabout him when he came through the intake. I think Grays are playing at Tier 7 so no chance of getting him to re-sign at the moment. (25e) Jason Higginson has the same surname as our 1st choice centre-back, but frustratingly they are not brothers. (I keep checking). He was our 1st choice left winger in the short time he was here. (25d) Simon King (WAL) had just had a run as starting GK, was playing better than the previous keeper and looked to be developing nicely, (although wasn't scoring that many goals). To lose 1 of these players would have been a blow. to lose them all during the same season is big. We need to start moving up the leagues. It's..... interesting..... that 2 of these players went to Barnet and I'm a Barnet fan in real life. Barnet is in North London and Irchester is in the Midlands so there is no connection there and I'm pretty sure that my favoured club in game is "Cardiff" in a hat-tip to my Welsh save, (and my Nationality is also Welsh in-game). Spoiler There is nothing to see here, but I clicked on the button by mistake and now I can't seem to get rid of it. Tracker. Everything looks to be moving in the right direction here. I think we are valued less than we were because I released so many players, (33 I think). Records. This doesn't sound like a huge deal and he hasn't "broken" the record. He's just equalled it and done so in fewer games so the record is now his. The thing is though that he did it in just 27 games where as the previous record holder did it in 47 games. So yeah, I think he deserves the record. We will be hard pushed to get promoted without him this season.
Jimbokav1971
May 2026. We could do with a few more events like this. He's been with us for a while now and has been a regular for much of that time so I think he should be quite influential. This could be just what I need to start a mentoring group. He was usurped by (23d) John Hopkins as starting right back last season, but I'm hoping this will work. (23d) John Hopkins has a F.Pro personality and Det is reasonable, but both of them are classed as "Other players" in the hierarchy. Squad Hierarchy. Balanced and Unambitious Team Leaders might not sound good, (and it isn't), but everything is relative right? If I could get (20a) Aaron Higginson 6'1" to tutor someone with a really bad personalty, (slack or casual), then it's still a step in the right direction isn't it? Although I released a lot of players with poor Det recently, it was more about low CA PA & Det than just Det. (20f) Neil Park (Res) is Influential and I love a Resolute personality. He can definitely do a job. So I think I have 3 options with some ability to influence others. I've set up 3 different groups but not sure who to assign to them. Let's ask the Ass Man. If I do that I think it will start completely from scratch..... Let's give it a go anyway and see what he does. No, I don't like this. (20d) Shane Walsh (IRL) is a good player for us, but low Det and low Amb makes him a poor suggestion as Mentor. I'm not doing that so I'm disbanding this group immediately. (20c) Aaron Harker (ML) is a better option in that his Det is at least in double figures. We don't know about Pro and Amb but let's just start with what we can see eh. I haven;t done mentoring in a while so let's see how this works and maybe the rest of you who do this regularly will remind me and point out any glaring mistakes I make. (It's been a while). (25j) Jack Williams has a Low Det personality (Det of 5), so I'm happy for him to be mentored. (25a) Paul Russon-Rubie has and Unambitious personality (Det of 4 and low Amb), so I'm happy for him to be mentored. (24f) Derrick Kizito (UGA) has a Spirited personality (Det of 12), so I'm not happy for him to be tutored at all, (and have just removed him). (23b) Mark Carroll has a balanced personality (Det of 6), so I'm happy for him to be mentored, so he has just been added to the group to replace (24f) Derrick Kizito (UGA) The group now looks like this. Do PPM's still get transferred over in the same way that they used to in Tutoring? I can't remember. (25a) Paul Russon-Rubie has "runs with ball down right" as a PPM but none of the other have either that or "runs with ball often". Anyway, it's a start of sorts. Jimbokav1971
Personality. Jun 2026. The only problem is that he's only listed as "other player" in the clubs hierarchy. The big thing here is how much CA there is. That what counts to me because our facilities are so poor I think it's hard to develop the players. Nations already represented in previous Youth Intakes. New Nations represented in this Youth Intake. The only Nationality abbreviation I have had to look up so far was LCA, (Saint Lucia), but I have also had to look up VIN now (Saint Vincent and the Grenadines). (27a) Haynes. (27d) Unwin. It's not all good news though. In a conversation in another thread @_Ben_commented that Loyalty is desirable because it means that I have a better chance of keeping my best players. The problem here though is that with such awful facilities, I'm not sure that we are able to develop our players. Add in that many of them seem to be significantly "flawed" and it's a double whammy. How are the players supposed to develop with both rubbish facilities AND poor hidden attributes. (27a) Haynes is NOT typical. He might have low Det and low Amb, but who cares? He's already the best player in the club, (by CA), so even if he doesn't get any better, (I wish I could track it but don't want to look at his CA/PA), then he's still the best player at the club. I'm currently working on the general Det at the club, but it's a very slow process, and even as I'm working on the Det, I'm ignoring Pro and Amb which are equally important in terms of player development. (27e) Clifton Williams (BRB) is also not typical. Low Det and low Amb mean that his CA of 2.5 is unlikely to ever get near to his PA of 5.0, but once again he is the best centre-half at the club so who cares if he doesn't get any better? (Well actually I do). I'm not in a position to deal with Pro yet, and Amb is still a long way away, but I should be able to influence Det. If I can get his det to 10+ then I should be able to improve player development. (27g) Răzvan Belaşcu (ROU) is different entirely. With casual or slack players, my initial thought is just to release them. They are just a waste of time and effort, (until that is they are no longer casual or slack). All we are looking at to start off with is player development so for that we want to look at Det and Pro in this case. I've already admitted that I'm not in a position to influence Pro yet, so let's look at Det. The player stays as "Casual" while his Det remains 1-9, so we have to get it to 10. While we were doing that though, we would be pretty unlucky if we also didn't manage to boost the Pro level to better than 4. So while I want to "fix" this with Det, it's much much much easier to fit it with Pro. Whole that gets rid of the "Casual" label, it still doesn't fix the player though. Slack is just an intense version of Casual. Super-casual. The way to fix it is still the same. I culled a lot of the worst personalities and lowest Det last year, but I'm going to keep (27g) Belaşcu (ROU) (casual) and use him as a bit of an experiment. I'm not looking at the CA and PA of other player, (because it will spoil my game), but I'm willing to make an exception for (27g) Belaşcu (ROU) (casual). Some of his hidden attributes. The CA is rubbish as you would expect, but the PA value is actually significantly higher than I had expected. To start off with, I think what I'm going to do is train him as normal, and let him play in the Youth team, but I'm just going to see how things develop between now and the end of the season, (there are only 3 league games and 2 Cup games left), and then see how things develop in pre-season next season. at that stage I will start to crank things up and focus more on him. I see a lot of your youths have got determination and ambition issues. I know you can fix low determination but placing them in a mentoring group with better personality. I am wondering if you can do the same with ambitions.

It's exactly the same except that I don't know exactly what the Amb level is because I can't see it. I can still identify players who have a problem, and I can also identify players who are a solution. My strategy in the past has always been to concentrate on Pro and Det and as far as Amb goes, just make sure it's not bad rather than that it's good. NIce. just put solution players and a problem player in a group and should sort things out. I think Pro and Det go in pair. when whilst you improve these Ambition level should also go up. I think Pro and Det go in pair. when whilst you improve these Ambition level should also go up. It's not quite that simple, but yeah, that's the gist of it. Players can have good Det but bad Pro and Amb and if I was managing a big club then that might be an issue, but at Tier 9 in England even just a small improvement will be significant. Ideally I would have a player with good values in all 3, but that might not be possible, and probably won't be at this level. This isn't about getting everyone to Model Pro. This is about making them better than they were before.
RoguPL
Sorry if I have missed it in earlier posts? Is Irchester and Amateur club or semi pro?
mattyjames_
I believe some of your coaching staff also have an impact on the personalities of the players that come through the youth system? I've also had a quick look through your thread (cool concept, by the way), but I was just wondering what the stats on your Head of Youth Development are? If he had high determination, I'm pretty sure he would pass that on to at least some of your players in the academy...?

You are completely right, but the level of coach who has been willing to join us has seriously restricted us. We have just 1 "good" personality on the staff (Res), and Daniel Sturridge is reasonable with (F.Amb). The reason for this is because the level of staff available to us in the main are just really poor and have poor personalities. As things improve it is something that I plan on looking at.
Jimbokav1971
Season Summary. Apr 2026. Although our season is over, we still have 1 game to play, (43 days after our last league game). I will edit this post after we play the FA Vase Final. United Counties Premier Division. Final League Table. We were 3 points behind Corby for most of the season, but our penultimate League game was against them and we had a vastly superior goal difference so I knew in the run-in that if we beat them in that game then we would have a decent chance of stealing the title. Although we led with 6 minutes remaining, they scored a late equaliser and we had blown it. FA Cup. FA Vase. We still have the Final to play. If I'm completely honest with you, I don't actually know what level of club are eligible for this competition. Does anyone know? United Counties League Cup. Goal-scoring keepers. 12 goals in a season doesn't sound amazing, (I've had many GK's score 12+ penalties in a season), but I'm pretty sure that I have never seen a GK score 8 direct free-kicks in a season. In fact I have never seen an outfield player score 8 goals in a season. I've posted them all in this thread already, so I won't bother posting them again. Overall best XI. Awards. Squad by Appearances. Discipline. Finances. Facilities. We've finally managed to max out Junior Coaching, but it hadn't "popped" by the date of the last intake, so we can expect some more improvement next season. Transfers. Tracker. Records. Jimbokav1971
Positive personalities(ish). (Please note that these are not positive personalities. They are just personalities, some of which are significantly flawed, that will be of benefit to us at this stage of the save). F.Sport is not a good personality, but it serves a purpose at the moment because it has a min Det level of 10. Ambition might be low, but could be as high as 14. Pro might be low, but might be as high as 15. F.Loyal is not a good personality, but it serves a purpose at the moment because it has a min Amb level of 8 and might be as high as 14. det might be low, but can't be lower than 6 and could be as high as 15. Pro could be as high as 17. F.Amb is not a good personality, but it serves a purpose at the moment because it has a min Amb level of 15 and could be as high as 20. Pro could also be as high as 17. Sport is not a good personality. It is however an easy fix. We can see what the Det value is and all we have to do is get the Det to 10 and then the personality will pop to something else. Spirit us not a good personality. The Pro levels are already good though, and Det is visible so it should be easy to manage.
