On my FM23 save, Croatia won the world Cup! And Portugal, didn't even call up Ronaldo for the World Cup! :D  England got to semi-final before Portugal beat them 3-1.

I'm quickly losing interest in my England journeyman save.

The plan was to get a job, do something noteworthy and apply to bigger jobs. Turns out that the game values more a coaching badge than a sporting achievement, so even though I have back to back promotions with Kidderminster every club I've applied so far rather hire a Continental Pro coach even if they've done nothing of mention in the past. (all clubs half a star up in reputation, playing in the VNN, L2, or L1)

Union Sportive Mondorf-les-Bains

Some FMs ago I had a really fun save using Jeunesse Esch, and since I can't seen to keep a save without getting bored or something, I decided to give the Luxembourg league a try but, instead of using the most condecorated team, I'm using a team predicted to finish into the relegation playoffs. The squad is bloated, we're obviously lacking quality, and the remaining budget is practically non-existant. It will be a fun ride.

I'm 16 years into a Journeyman and have only just discovered this thread, unfortunately.

Briefly,

Apollon Smyrnis - Greece- 3 seasons

BATE Borisov Belarus - 3.5 seasons

Lausanne - Switzerland 2 seasons

Union Berlin - 5(or 6) seasons

Everton - England - 1.5 seasons(left before I was pushed)

Atletico Madrid (Just finishing my second full season which is the point of this post. This first image shows the last day of the season(first full season) last time around. Yes... that's right. We lost the league when Levante equalised in the 90th minute. I obviously went all out for a goal and conceded a 2nd as conceding another made no difference. We were ahead of Barca on Head to Head so joint on points would've won us the league (regardless of GD)

For anyone who would like to see the whole story, here's my gaming twitter(@NooBish_AbbZ). I literally have 2 followers and it's mainly around Football Manager with a bit of F1 Manager in there.

This second image is this season as we have one game remaining. At the start of the year we made a few changes, bought in lots of potential and knew that this year was too early. Next season possibly, but certainly the year after we'll make a challenge of it. Turns out the kids did good and we have pushed Barca to a decent amount. However, look at this xG table. 25 goals extra Barca have scored, meaning an extra 18 points over their expectations. I've never seen a team over-perform so massively, and as it turns out, statistics wise, we could've won the league. This Barca team is old as hell. When we last played them they had a 19 year old, a 22 year old and a 27 year old. Everyone else was over 30 including a 37 year old DR, and a 35 year old Ansu Fati, plus a 33 year old Gavi or Pedri(whichever is older) Conversely, in our main starting XI, we have one player aged 31(Star player but probably going to look to offload his £500k per week wage), one aged 27, and the rest are 24 and under. If I can keep this team together, it's going to be a force in 2 years time.

Next season we will challenge. The year after that I want the league.

We also lost one game in 90 mins between 7th Jan and the end of the season. That being a 5-2 loss away at Borussia Monchengladbach in the Europa Semi-final. We dominated the home leg but only won 2-0, which was frustrating. So we've set a new Club unbeaten record and the final game of the season is playing at the moment. We're 2-0 up and if we win we set a new club league points record, yet it still isn't enough.

Union Sportive Mondorf-les-Bains - Season 01

Well, considering that we're playing in Luxembourg, I'm not surprised with the fact that we, predicted 14th, finished top of the table. The squad wasn't and still isn't great (we're in Luxembourg after all), but our 16 signings (all free transfers haha) improved us and helped clinching the title. The Coupe de Luxembourg wasn't played yet (I'm using Dave's Luxembourg file, and that's FM22, so it might be something done with the Advanced Editor).

For anyone interested, my tactic is a bit of an oddball. I play with something like this (roles not added in this representation):

GK

FB                    CB                   FB

DM                   DM

ML                   CM                   MR

AM                   AM

Yep. No strikers.

We will enter the Champions League at the Champions Path First Qualifying Round, while Racing and Fola Esch (2nd and 3rd respectively) will enter the Conference League.

Union Sportive Mondorf-les-Bains - Season 02

So we just finished the season. We did a domestic double, winning the league and the cup this season.
In Europe things were... interesting. We ended up in the Europa League Group Stage, getting a single point in the 6 matches, but still, it was a creditable away draw against Real Betis.
Bigger clubs came sniffing around some of our players, so we'll need to make some signings. Let's see how that will work out, considering that last season was really difficult sign-wise due to the new professional status.
The board still don't want to upgrade anything, and that is really pissing me off. We have 10 million in the bank ffs!

Union Sportive Mondorf-les-Bains - Season 03

So this is gonna be short. We won the double again, and reached the group stage of the Europa League again, finishing the group with 4 points. We're making progress, BUT that board doesn't want to upgrade anything at all, so I'm gonna resign and look for another team, maybe even in a different tier. I will let you guys know once I get a new job.

The story so far...

Season 2021/22 - Union Sportive Mondorf - 1st in League - Cup not played
Season 2022/23 - Union Sportive Mondorf - 1st in League - Cup winners - Europa League Group Stage (1 point)
Season 2023/24 - Union Sportive Mondorf - 1st in League - Cup winners - Europa League Group Stage (4 points)
Season 2024/25 - To sum things up: we had around 13 million in the bank and the board never accepted any request. So I decided to resign and look for a new team. This team plays in the 2nd tier, and have amateur status.

So, we're approaching the end of our next season and the Barca team I expected to drop off has done. our 1 loss was against Bilbao who dominated us on the day; we've won the Super Cup, we're 1-0 up on aggregate after the 1st leg of the Spanish Cup semi final(against Vigo), and if we get to the final we play Villareal who we played in the league recently, and beat 3-0. They created 0.00 xG. We've beaten Barca twice, we've beaten Real when we played them and have them left to play once in the league.

We've just lost against Spurs in the 2nd leg Europa knockout but went through 3-1 on aggregate, which ended the clubs longest ever unbeaten run. That win streak was the longest in club history; we're unbeaten at home in the league for over 3 years (last home loss was my 3rd in charge) which is also a club record. Europa League quarter finalists against Roma.

All of that said, I think my favourite part is that while we've done all that, our Squad average age is 22. I personally think that is absolutely nuts. I said a few days ago to a mate I don't think I've ever had so much potential in a squad in all of my time playing Football Manager. I've posted a few at the bottom. Yenikaya I broke the bank for. (£80m, all in) Cesar Olvera I signed when he was 16 but had to wait 2 years for him to join (£5m) Kurt Ullitz will be my starting GK as of next season, which will allow me to sell my current GK who is now 31.

Sorry ladies and gentlemen; you're getting another one!

Real Madrid are in crisis and have picked up just 6 points out of their last possible 18! Conversely we have been steaming towards the end of the season and have won 15 of our last 16 league games. The other was a draw.

We're gonna end a 19 year wait for Atletico(2038/39 season now), having come so close in my 2 other full seasons at the club.

 3f6106a615e869d9930df7d7ccb5679d.png

In Europe, I made a big boo-boo with my starting XI against Roma away and we lost 3-0. I didn't feel like the tie was over as we're pretty decent at home. Despite going 1-0 down, when we went 2-1 up I thought "this is still on." Then we conceded straight after half-time to make it 2-2 on the night and 5-2 on aggregate. I was a little dejected and made some changes. Anyway, Stamatovic who came on as a sub with 27 minutes left scored twice, we went all the way to 5-2 on the night (5-5 on aggregate, no away goals rule) and then what happens but we're awarded a penalty in the 90th minute. Image

Stamatovic put it away and we go through 6-2 on the night, 6-5 on aggregate to the Europa semi-final(Will play Real San Sebastian in the Semi then either Newcastle or Inter in the final if we get there). Our next match is the Spanish Cup final against Villareal who we have dominated this season (3.45 -0.00 xG last match) and we're comfortable with the league.  I'll say it again, average age of 22, and I'll be looking to move on our 31 year old keeper at the end of the season.

There was a chance that we could have gone to the Bernabeu and won the league against our City rivals, but instead, they dropped more points picking up something like 5 points out of 18 and as a result, Atletico are champions. The first time since 2020/21 and in my 3rd season. The first season was the one where we lost the league in stoppage time.

Our next match is away at Real Madrid, so they will be giving us a Guard of Honour as Campeones:cool: Another mention of my average squad age of 22!!

Last one for this season. We are already Spanish Super Cup Champions, Spanish Cup Champions and La Liga Champions(first time in 19 years) this season, and we've gone and added a Europa League to our collection. Man of the match was our 18 year old Model Citizen WB (who I paid £80m for) Average age of the squad is still 22 so in 3-4 years time, this squad could be absolutely ridiculous. I'm sure plenty players will be poached but I can but hope!

Started with Pedras Rubras on the Portuguese third Tier, couldn't manage to get promoted (after the regular season there's a playoff between winners and 2nd places from 4 series). Didn't renew my contract and moved to a team on the second tier - Vilafranquense. Got promoted on the second season. Just after the start of the season received an invitation for an interview at Famalicão which I gladly accepted. Went on to win the league in the first season (benefited from playing an easy European competition and having a quite low reputation). The second and third seasons were harder as teams played very defensively against us.

Won Manager of the Year on every tier and Best Portuguese Manager. Won Portuguese Championship Serie B twice, Portuguese Premier League, European Conference League, Portuguese League Cup, and Portuguese Supercup. Sadly never managed to move past the CL Group Stage, but I'm happy with my career.

What started as a no badge/semi-pro experience (I played at a semi-pro level) journeyman save, turned into trying to relive the "Miracle of Castel di Sangro". To anyone unaware of the story, I highly recommend the book by Joe McGinniss: The Miracle of Castel di Sangro.

The club has fallen since the highs of achieving "La Salvezza" during the 1996-97 Serie B season, it now sits within the 5th tier of Italian calcio, Eccellenza Molise (notably that Castel di Sangro is part of Aburzzo, not the region of Molise it is currently registered in). In the FM database, the club has no players and manager. I applied for the job with no prior experience, and was welcomed to the club having not a single player of the roster. I quickly assembled a roster of free agents, and easily won promotion to Serie D playing a super direct style. Serie D was of similiar quality to the Eccellenza , and we easily secured the title with several games to spare. Unfortunately, we did not win any of smaller cup tournament besides the Coppa Molise during our first season. However, Serie C/C is a much harder division. I opted to play a classic 3-5-2 counter attack, as our route one style would not be successful against the much more organized and talented Serie C clubs. Miraculously, we successfully secured a comfortable 11th place, only a few points short of a playoff spot even after selling our best player in the summer. I will post some screenshots below.

Our key player during the first two seasons, the English born striker could not emulate his form in Serie C.

Been thrown out of another thread where this seems to fit for starting one tier too low (!) but oh well - my Kensington Dragons team (my local team who start in level 11) are now in tier 9 in the Combined Counties League Premier North...about to start the season.

This is a summary of my game so far - I will post updates now and then but mainly after each season!

Just started a save playing as Newport County, using the following mods I made myself:

All nations youth rating set to 100. I've done this for several versions, and it doesn't change as much as you would think. You still get a ton of good prospects in the usual countries/academies, but it does make it more likely that you'll get a superstar from, say, Estonia or Indonesia or someplace. I think it's actually more realistic..

Superleague teams all given continental bans. So, for example, in England, Wolves, Brighton and Leicester are in the Champions League, and Brentford is in the Conference League.

PSG, Man City, and Chelsea have had their sugar daddies taken away, and their finances ruined. Neymar has been exiled to a random Qatari team.

Juventus has been relegated to serie B. Roma and Lazio have been given points deductions (6).

The Red Bull teams have all gone bankrupt, and have been removed from the game.

FC Arsenal Kyiv has been resurrected and is in the 2nd tier of the Ukrainian system.

Swansea, Cardiff, Wrexham and Newport County have left the English system and are now part of a 16 team Welsh premier league.

Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland are all in the EU.

All of this is meant to simulate the world (UEFA) striking back at the superleague teams, as well as catering to my own personal bias against English football.

Swansea and Cardiff are, no shock, the top two in the league. Both our losses have been to them; the Swansea match was competitive, the Cardiff one not. Draws have been against Wrexham and The New Saints. We've settled on a balanced 4-2-3-1 asymmetrical.

After my test save on FM24, I decided to start a Youth Only save in my home country, Greece. Panionios was a perfect choice, they're in the third division with decent facilities, a good roster, plenty of history and financial issues.

The rule in my save is one: No transfers, with the exception of players that started their careers in the Panionios Youth team.

The first season was just a chore for my team, we finished 1st without losing a game and broke records in matches won and points gathered.

GVNiXes.png.b001f817f9236b366c569609aab1d46f.png

We had a few players who contributed massively to our promotion, starting with the top scorer Ignatidis. He scored 25 goals as a DLF(S).

Spoiler

gniUq0P.png.c19fbb65ed72f8c0575602b9036245e9.png

Dimitris Grontis was our midfield maestro, with 10 goals and 11 assists to his name.

Spoiler

YuUtA1C.png.dcb634eed1a198b4f83350fff970b5d9.png

Last but not least, Glynos was a constant threat from the right wing, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists.

A few words for the Youth Intake, as the players didn't get a lot of game time yet. Things are looking good, with 9 elite and 15 top talents, we will at least fill our squad with players moving forward.

Next year we have one aim: Survive Greece's second national division.

The next season was in Greece's second tier. I thought teams would be a lot better than they actually were, which resulted in us being first for most of the year. It was very frustrating to finish the season 2nd, but it was enough to get promoted to the Greek Super League. After a fantastic first round, we started drawing way too much and we slipped into second place in the final fixture.

image.thumb.png.d7033389291cdb43720dbe7232e0c6c3.png

In the Greek Cup, we had a successful campaign that ended brutally by facing AEK. The financial benefit from the tickets definitely helped our season though.

image.png.8d0b3e35680d367544f6419b0ef8180f.png

In terms of youth intakes, the first two years have been good to us, giving the team enough players to develop into at least Super League level. I'll post the ones with the most contributions so far.

Kostas Pontikos (first intake): Our best player so far (spoiler: but not for long). His versatility, leadership and technique have made him a consistent contributor in my save, both as a Mezzala, as well as left Inverted Winger. He will soon become a Cypriot international with the main team, after 2 years in U18 and U21.

Spoiler

A4frkAB.png

Telis Boubas (first intake): In the beginning of the save he looked more promising than Pontikos and he played better in the third division games he got. Then he broke his ankle and his development stopped for around 7 months. He's playing catching up, but I still believe he can play an important role moving forward, mostly because he can cover us in many different positions.

Spoiler

JyBDdzT.png

Kostas Papadimitriou (first intake): This is a weird one. His attributes don't really indicate anything special, but he just delivers when it matters. Many important goals and assists already, but I don't really know what to expect. I hope he keeps developing, but as long as he plays like that, he will have a place in the squad.

Spoiler

tEFYY3U.png

Orestis Ntagiantas (first intake): The only defender (or defensive minded player) who is already playing an important role in the squad. His physical attributes leave a lot to be desired, but I hope he can improve there as he gets a bit older. Other than that, no mistakes, his mentals are developing nicely and he's already capped for Greece at the U18 level. Bonus points because of his avatar.

I already played the next season in Super League 1, that's why all the newgens are a bit older, but I don't want to load the post with too much information/content. As you can image, things are tough in the top flight with underdeveloped newgens.

Been a while since I've contributed with a save on the forum but been reading still and I've had a save which I've really enjoyed and also enjoyed not writing about it either.

Originally a British Journeyman but with England as view only, it's branching out to a European tour, adding and removing leagues as we go, albeit we've only managed in the Czechia outside of the British Isles.

We ticked off Wales with Haverfordwest, a pit stop in southern Ireland, completed Northern Ireland and dominated in Czechia with Ceske Budejovice including winning the Conference League. We've just moved to Rangers who somehow don't have a single Scotsman in their first-team squad. They've actually won every single title from the start of the save until last season when Celtic pipped them by a point but Vincent Kompany left to join the Belgian national team.

I've come in a sold their best player to Liverpool for £42m and replaced him with a wonderkid from my former Czech side for £12m who's started well. We've won seven from seven so far but face Celtic next.

BETHESDA SC 2032/33

League: 3rd

A little bit of a drop off, although not that bad. Still top 3 so I shouldn’t really be complaining.

FA Cup: Lost In Final vs Sea View Farm

Wish we could’ve won, but oh well. Still not a great team to lose to, though. We also had Hoppers in the second round, which knowing how good they are I thought they would eliminate us early, but we won 3-1.

Caribbean Cup: 2nd In Caribbean Cup Phase 1 Group Stage

We nearly lost the first round after going down 2-3 to Weymouth Wales in the first leg, however we smacked them 5-0 in the home fixture. Our group had Golden Lion (MTQ), Dynamos (BAH), and Platinum (LCA). We didn’t lose any of the games, yet we drew with last place Platinum which ended our run. Still a great run.

Intake: CB Chelsey Blackwood is the star of the intake with 4 star current ability.

I've moved on from Rangers after four seasons with four SPL titles, three UCL's and numerous other FA and League cup wins. Made plenty of money for the club only for the new manager to come in and spend £250m on all I can say is dross.

I joined the Greek national team briefly for six months, winning three of my six games in charge before German side Freiburg offered me an interview. I got the job, they were down in 13th place after a poor start in the league but they're a Champions League side predicted to finish in 6th place. They got some good players with decent value who could be shipped if needed plus a plethora of young talent in the second team waiting to take a spot in the first team.

I actually wanted to move to a Greek side hence the move into international football with Greece but my god international football is boring on FM. So maybe the plan changes as we go to Germany and then to Greece before moving back to Germany with one of the big three.

Currently playing FM2011. Put all the Welsh teams playing in England back into the Welsh league... Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham, Newport County, Colwyn Bay, and the team I'm managing Merthyr Town. We were only founded the year the game came out so got a reputation of... 1!

Really looking forward to challenging Cardiff and Swansea and then Europe.

I had technically already started but started again after forgetting to put English sides playing in Wales back into England... TNS, Bishops Castle and Trefonen.

Last time Craig Bellamy on loan at Cardiff from Man City scored 20 goals after 6 games lol.
