The Save

I will keep my Albion Rovers game running also but I have really missed youth only aspect of the game so I have went lower league Spain and youth only! Poor facilities and a poor team so this will be hard!

The Team

Load of loans and poor quality in an ageing team, this will be tough!

These are our only real 2 young prospects at the club. This is going to be tough!

The Manager

Again structured for youth development and no badges! Looking forward to this!

Not as bad as I thought. Training facilities are actually pretty good. Junior Coaching and Youth Recruitment I hope we can work on throughout the season to get them up!

Youth Intake Preview

Not a great first intake for us. We are having a really good season but there are 5 loan players in our tiny squad. Once they go they will need replacing. A winger and a midfielder is a start I suppose. In our starting squad outside the loanees we have a 31 year old, a 32 year old,  two 34 year olds and two 35 year olds. So next season is going to be a struggle!

Results

An unbeaten start. We were predicted to challenge for the title and we are definitely doing so. We have been lucky enough not to have many injuries because our squad is so incredibly small!

League Table

We are top by 4pts. A lot of drawn games but no losses so far!

Player Review - Javi Lara

One of our ancient players! He has been fantastic for us with 10 assists in 20 games from the deep lying volante role!

Goalkeeper Watch

Both keepers have been getting some game time. Perrano has 2 goals in 16 games and Lucas has 1 goal in 5 games!

I find in this type of challenge the first season tends to be the easiest. As you will see tomorrow I will start to struggle as only 3 players from our intake will be of any use!

Youth Intake 2020

As expected not a great intake. I have signed the top 4 players out to flesh out the squad a little. Here they are below:

YP20A - Michael Salinas

Our biggest prospect. His top end PA has the potential to be a good player for us. Has some solid stats and I will be getting him game time before end of the season.

YP20B - Biel

I quite like Biel in that he covers basically the whole right side. Again I will try and give him some game time to up his CA before next season.

YP20C - Miguel Angel Romaguera

I like his mental. Centre mid is an area were we are really ageing so he could come in handy soon!

YP20D - Oscar

Probably more suited to play in the centre of the pitch with that aggression and determination but I will utilise him out wide for now due to a sheer lack of numbers!

Debuts

Salinas (YP20A) became the youngest player in the history of the Second Division B and Oscar (YP20C) scored the only goal in a 1-0 win on his debut. Both Biel (YP20B and Romaguera (YP20D) made their debuts as well. The goal was set up by a 16 year old left back who was in our under 19's at start of season which is great also!

Results

A great finish to a great season for us. We only lost the one game in the league!

League Table

We finish as champions but still have to go through a playoff stage to actually go up!

Player Review - Angel Rodado

Rodado was actually on the transfer list when I first came in but has banged in 9 goals this season to help us to finish as champions. We have a striker out on loan who is coming back next season which may mean he drops to the bench!

Youth Review

Only a few games for our youth players. I hope I can do something about the personalities though!

Playoff Draw

We got Cordoba who finished top of their league as well.

The first leg we were the better team but they took their chance which meant we had to win back at our place!

Win we did but by the same scoreline which meant it went to the lottery of penalties which thankfully we were able to win!

We drew Logrones in the first phase playoff final but before this match we got the below...

We had been promoted! I presume as champions we only needed to go through one round to confirm it!

Missed a screenshot of first leg where we had 2 mend sent off and got beat 1-0. We managed to overturn this in the 2nd leg however!

Squad Review

Goalkeepers

Probably our strongest area in the squad. Both Pareno and Lucas are good enough for this level so I am comfortable here for now!

Full Backs

This is an area we are short on. Morellos and Devesa are both 32 and have no great quality. Gonzalez is a decent player and will start at left back and Montero is a good prospect who I am training to play on the right! 

Centre Backs

Again an area we are short on Quintanilla and Nunez are very good for this level. The problem is our only backup is a 36 year old Gonzalo. We have some players who I will be utilising in other positions who can potentially cover.

Centre Midfielders

An area we have the numbers but not necessarily the quality. Lara is 34 now and was outstanding last season. Hopefully we can get another season or 2 out of him. Gascon and Machuca will fight it out for the other spot. We then have our 2 young youth players in Salinas (YP20A) and Romaguera (YP20D) who I will try and give game time to as well to aid development.

Wingers

Turns out Martinez was a 2 year loan deal which could turn out to be a God send. He and Perez will start with our other 2 youth graduates in Biel (YP20B) and Oscar (YP20C) providing the backup. 

 

Strikers

We only have 2 strikers at the club (and one other who isn't a striker who can be backup). Carbia was the player who was out on loan last season who immediately comes in as our number 1 striker. He will partner Rodado up top.

We have started well but any sort of injuries or suspensions and we will be bang in trouble. Survival and a good intake is a must!

August 2020 - November 2020

Results

A great start to our season in the Segunda division. We are playing really well and although we have had a couple of big defeats but some fantastic wins.

League Table

We sit up in 4th which is great. We could do with a decent intake to help flesh out our squad a bit more though!

Player Review - Fran Carbia

Carbia has been fantastic for us 12 goals in 18 games and he is really the one player driving us up that table.

Goalkeeper Watch

No goals this season from our keepers! 4 missed penalties!

Youth Review

Amazing development from Oscar who has jumped a crazy 13 CA points. The others are also developing well especially Romaguera who has nearly hit double figures as well.

Erm, not great if I am honest. No wingers, full backs or centre backs for us. I am hoping the attacking midfielder also plays out wide. A new forward is a definite plus though!

We dominated possession but in terms of chances we got humped. But 2 goals including a free kick from our keeper to win it means we beat a top flight team!

This was Atletico's 2nd team no doubt but we played really well and really concerned them at set pieces. Even better the fact that our youth player Oscar (YP20C) got the winning goal!

And just like that we have reached the semi final of the Spanish Cup! A favourable draw and sub Gascon got us the win!

Spanish Cup Semi Final 1st Leg

A great win in the first leg where we were actually the better team. Fully expecting to be humped in the 2nd leg though!

December 2020 - February 2021

Results

Still solid results but with much more defeats as expected. Still a great first season at this level.

League Table

We sit in the playoff positions and have a nice buffer over 8th spot. I do not expect us to be getting promoted this year but a very good year of consolidation for us!

Spanish Cup

As seen in previous posts an amazing run sees us 1-0 up in the first leg of the Spanish Cup semi final! We have already beaten 3 La Liga (albeit weakened sides) which is a great achievement.

Player Review - Miguel Angel Romaguera (YP20D)

Romaguera (YP20D) is starting to force his way into the first team. With ageing players ahead of him and Salinas (YP20A) being disappointing in terms of CA development he will get more game time!

Goalkeeper Watch

Parrano now has finally hit the back of the net this season. He has 3 goals! 2 penalties and 1 free kick!

Youth Review

Some good progress here but also some I am disappointed with:

Oscar (YP20C) is our main developer here. Up to 20 CA points this season and the best performing player on the pitch. Even though he has the least PA he seems to be getting there much quicker.

Monteo is a solid backup left back for us. He wont ever really be anything more than that as he isn't developing as quickly as I would have liked.

Romaguera (YP20D) was meant to be our backup plan to our big prospect in Salinas (YP20A) but he is developing a lot quicker and really looks like he could be a decent player for us sooner rather than later! 

 Biel (YP20B) again I am disappointed in his development. I am giving him game time at right back despite his limited ability. A poor season go growth hasn't really helped us situation either. Hope next season will change that.

Salinas (YP20A) is still our highest rated potential player but he has dropped to the bottom of the CA list and has only went up 5 points this season so far. I really hope he can kick on next season and get up to the CA increase levels that we are seeing with Romaguera and Oscar

Improvements

Improvements in the 2 main areas for this save. Our finances went up to over £1.5m in the red at back end of last season but with TV rights money and our run in the cup we are down to just over 200k!

Youth Intake 2021

Looks like a positive intake on first viewing so that we can flesh out the squad a bit more. However looking at the players we signed it doesn't really cover a lot of areas we really needed to get. A striker and a couple of wingers are handy but centre midfield and a goalkeeper isn't what we needed. The centre back I signed as we desperately need one just. Lets have a look at PA vs PPA

Some decent PA here at top end. Others are more to flesh out the squad. Barring our top prospect who has a poor personality the rest are pretty good!

The Players

YP21A - Francesc Vives

Vives (YP21A) is a player we needed. Fantastic finishing but his mental could really do with working. We needed a striker as we only have 2 at the club so he will definitely get minutes!

YP21B - Mikel Garcia

Garcia (YP21B) whilst at first look doesn't look great he does have a lot of high single figure attributes which with development can definitely make him a good player. Will get game time as well!

YP21C - Xisco Ramis

 

Ramis (YP21C) is a player we dont really need as we already have 2 good goalkeepers. I will see how he develops and we can potentially make some money down the line.

YP21D - Pedro Heredia

A position we badly needed a player and whilst he isn't it in terms of ability we can use him as a backup!

YP21E - Jaume Bravo

Whilst not having a high PA Bravo (YP21E) definitely looks the most ready to be useful now. Good acceleration and crossing can always make for a handy winger!

YP21F - Tommy Shea

Shea (YP21F) (English 2nd nationality) is another who has fantastic pace and decent dribbling, flair and technique so you;d come in handy as well on the wing.

YP21G - Sergi

Sergi (YP21G) comes in a position again we dont overly need. Will try and get him some game time to aid development!

Spanish Cup Final

I have no words. This is probably the most ridiculous cup win I have had in FM. We were battered by them and relied on set pieces for our chances. 2 errors from them gift us goals. Their keeper palming a harmless free kick to the feet of Carbia before Mendy played an awful backless straight to him as well to round the keeper for a tap in. Mental!

Europe

Whilst on one side of things this is great and should get us some decent money on the other side our squad simply sit equipped for the amount of games we will be playing next season. Should be handy to give the youth products a few games though!

End Of Season

Results

As expected we hit a tough run of form when injuries and suspensions picked up. We bounced back well in April and when our playoff spot was more or less confirmed we gave a lot of the new crop of youngsters get games and we had an up and down end to the season.

League Table

We finished 6th in the league which is a great achievement for us. We will play Zaragoza in the playoffs!

Spanish Cup

This was just ridiculous. Beating the biggest team in the final with a fantastic defensive performance and scoring from 2 mistakes.

Player Review - Alex Quintanilla

Quintanilla has been very solid for us this season. Our best defender and very good mental stats. 

Goalkeeper Watch

Parreno has 5 goals this season. Lucas didn't get any!

Youth Review

Amazing development from Oscar and Romaguera this season whilst Salinas has a nice little push at end of season to hit double figures in CA increase. Biel has been disappointing. Out of the new crop Shea has grabbed 3 goals in 2 games and Vives and Bravo have also scored their first goals for the club. It shows you how low are CA really is for this level. Next season all of these players will probably get around 20 plus games a season as we have one loan player returning and 3 players retiring.

Semi Final 1st Leg

A fantastic performance in the first leg means we have 1 foot in the final! Rodado was brought back in for some more experience and he repaid me with 2 goals!

Semi Final 2nd Leg

A workmanlike performance by the team. I played a bit more defensively and we managed to used set pieces and counter attacks to our advantage!

Playoff Final

1st Leg

I dont know what it is about us but we are great at being dominated in terms of shots but really hitting teams on the counter or taking advantage of set pieces. This was far from a 4-0 scoreline but we took our chances and a very very unlikely promotion is on our hands.

2nd Leg

They must wonder how they havent at least beaten us once over the 2 legs! They were the better team again but like the Zaragoza game we played more defensively and just managed our lead. Unbelievably we are promoted but my oh my we have some beatings coming our way next season! But the money should definitely help with some improvements!

A new stadium which is required (even with this I believe we are still a few thousand short of hitting the requirements. But this is 3 times the size of our current stadium and only a year to build!

Managed to squeeze another youth recruitment out after rejecting an increase to scouts wages!

Also managed to get improvements to our youth facilities which is great!

Euro Cup Draw

I think that is a pretty good draw for us. Again not sure what to expect but more game time for youngsters means they should develop quicker!

That is some pretty impressive achievement I would say, winning the Spanish Cup with pretty much a 3rd division group of players. In my 15 years of playing the game I have never managed such success, I must be really bad at it.

I agree. I think only like 3 of our players are considered good enough for Division 2 let alone La Liga. I have had big success with this tactic but never to that degree. You can see we were getting a few thumpings in the second division but seemed to turn up and make the most out of the cup games.

August - November 2021

Results

A lot of defeats but coupled in with some very good results including 2 away wins in the league. I have been rotating a lot to try and get more CA development within the team. Carbia seems to be single handedly trying to keep us up!

League Table

Anything outside of the relegation zone I would take! 3pts outside currently and we play Levante next. Not sure what to expect but we have been more competitive that I thought we would have been.

Euro Cup

We have been pretty good in the Euro Cup and should have already qualified if we had taken the numerous chances at home to Krasandor (38 shots to 5). Avoid defeat away at Besiktas and we go through!

Player Review - Biel

Biel (YP20B) is getting a lot of games at right back despite his terrible defending stat as we only have 1 other player there who is 34. He has 6 assists which is fantastic!

Goalkeeper Watch

Perrano has 2 goals in 16 games whilst Lucas is yet to get off the mark in 4 games!

Youth Review

Oscar (YP20C): Our most developed player who has popped up with 4 goals and 4 assists from right wing.

Romaguera (YP20D): He is our best young centre midfielder who has popped up with a goal and 3 assists so far and again this season his CA development is much higher than anyone else.

Montero: Getting a decent number of games at left back but is behind Gonzalez who is one of the best players in our squad. 

Bravo (YP21E): Now that our loanee went back this season we are definitely short on the wings. Bravo is sharing the left wing spot with Shea. He hasn't really set the world alight and only has 1 assists and 0 goals in 14 starts

Vives (YP21A): Vives is sharing the 2nd striker role in rotation with Rodado. He has 3 goals in 16 appearances whilst it isn't great it is helping him develop.

Shea (YP21F): Shea has 1 goal and 1 assist in 9 starts and 5 sub appearances. He is pure pace but isn't technically all there yet.

Salinas (YP20A): Salinas was our big prospect but again has struggled. He is developing a bit quicker than he did last season which is good and lets hope he can reach close to that top PA.

Garcia (YP21B): Garcia is getting time in the centre of midfield also and has been playing ok but again his CA development hasn't been great compared to others which might be due to his personality.

Biel (YP20B): As covered above Biel has been given a lot of game time and has got a lot of assists from full back. He is definitely the modern day attacking full back. 

Sergi (YP21G): Sergi doesn't have a high PA but is getting some game time to aid development. 

Heredia (YP21D): Heredia is the most ridiculous of the lot, a man who started the season on 27 CA (yes that is 27). He has played and started 6 games for us this season simply as we really dont have anyone else!

December 2021 - February 2022

Results

Well this is pretty much what I expected at start of season. We have struggled massively but the last win against Huesca can hopefully give us some confidence. We have really struggled with scoring goals with a centre half our 2nd top goalscorer!

League Table

We jumped out of the bottom 3 with that win over Huesca. Vallecano are pretty much down and we have a 6pt buffer over Getafe. There is a number of clubs though very close together who can all go down.

Spanish Cup

Well our crazy run in the cup from last season will not be repeated. We struggled with Ejea and then were comfortably beaten by Zaragoza!

Euro Cup

Well we qualified then got absolutely humiliated by Roma and ended up with 8 men in the first leg. A better performance in the 2nd leg at least!

Player Review - Michael Salinas (YP20A)

Still not developing the way I really want. Been disappointed with him.

Goalkeeper Watch

Parreno has 4 goals in 34 games. Lucas is still goalless!

Youth Review

Nice to see that 5 players have hit the double figure CA increase. Oscar (YP20C) being the standout performer this season. We are still awaiting our first player to hit 100 CA which just shows you how poor we are. Really wish we could do something about some poor personalities!

6 foot 6 centre half! Definitely very good mentals as well. If we can work on his technicals a bit more we could have a solid player!

Our biggest PA player at the club. I will be throwing him straight in as our number 1 to aid his development. Really solid starting stats and he will be our new set piece taker!

YP22E - Christian

We ended up with 10 men for 62mins, 9 men for 45mins, 8 men for 20mins, 7 men for 19mins and 6 men for just over 10mins. I don't think it was meant to be our day?

End Of Season

Results

As expected we continued to really struggled and were absolutely pummelled by Real and Barca (what a way to finish a season away to both!). Where those 8 points in 11 games enough?

League Table

Thankfully this league goes by head to head and not by goal difference. Amazingly we stayed up by virtue of beating Getafe 4-1 near the end of the season! It was a huge struggle but when you compare our current CA average of around 80-85 even against Vallecano who finished rock bottom their average is around 125!

Player Review - Francesc Vives (YP21A)

He has been poor this season as have most of our players. 4 goals in 38 starts is simply not good enough. We only have 3 strikers at the club and Carbia is the only one scoring! 

Goalkeeper Watch

Gabi hasn't got a goal in 7 games yet whilst Parreno ended up with 4!

Youth Review

Oscar: Comfortably our best youth player of the season hitting double figures from right wing and adding 6 assists to that. Reaching his top PA but until others catch up he is our best winger!

Romaguera: Again like Oscar not the highest PA but in terms of current CA he is our best youth centre midfielder. Not a great return in terms of goals or assists but is still a started for next season.

Bravo: Did quite well this season with 3 goals and 7 assists. Made the left wing his own with backup from others now from our new intake as well as Shea.

Gabi: It has been a tough start for Gabi who has conceded 26 goals in the 7 games he has been in nets! But high PA and locked down to a long term deal, he could be a massive player for us.

Capo: Our biggest prospect in centre midfield. Gave him a lot of game time and he has already jumped up 7 CA points!

Montero: Our backup left back now, wont get overly much game next season but a handy squad player

Vives: As stated above he has been very poor. Played poorly and his goal return has been terrible but it is tough in a team simply not good enough for this level!

Shea: Really good progression for Shea. Double figures in terms of CA and despite being very limited is a good squad player to have.

Camus: Our huge 6 foot 6 centre back was thrown straight into the firing range. Has struggled but is young and centre back is badly needed!

Salinas: Better this season in terms of CA development. We have a lot of competition for this area so lets hope he continues to improve like this!

Garcia: Has been solid if unspectacular. Will get him as much game time as I can next season but again its our most competitive area!

Biel: Has been very good despite being very limited defensively. 12 assists is a fantastic return though!

Sergi: I think I will try and loan him out next season. He simply wont get many games and it could really aid development!

Miguel Angel: High PA so will definitely get game time next season. 

Christian: Another high PA and an area we needed it in. Will get quite a bit of game time next season at right wing!

Francisco: Will be a squad player next season and probably 5th choice winger. Potentially a loan move!

Rodriguez: Wont be the best of players but will come in handy as he covers both full back positions!

Heredia: Has been dropped into the u19 squad as his CA is no where near good enough and we have Camus who has come in now!

Hmm it says a terrific group of players. Again we really dont need central midfielders. A centre back and a full back would have been nice. No mention of strikers in either the positive or negative so lets hope one has slipped through!

July - December 2022

Results

Not many wins here but after August we have been on an unbeaten run although most are drawn with good results agains Atletico and Villareal. Both our league wins have come away from home this season!

League Table

We sit 5pts clear of the relegation zone. Our aim again is simply to survive whilst developing our young players into players who can compete at this level.

Spanish Cup

We managed to get past Grove fairly comfortably and have drawn Burgos in the next round!

Player Review - Jaume Bravo (YP21E)

As you will see below Bravo is one of 2 players to finally hit the 100 CA mark! He has developed really well and is a very solid winger now for us. We will also utilise him as a 4th choice striker.

Gabi has 1 goal and 1 assist from 8 games whilst Parreno has 3 goals from 7 games!

Youth Review

This is more like it. We finally get 2 players to hit the 100 CA mark and we have had an amazing 5 players hit the double figure CA increase already this season. We have also had some positive personality changes so there is less red on the board which is good! I may look to loan Shea out to get him game time as I am playing other wingers ahead of him!

Other News

We managed to get our training facilities upgraded. Getting costlier but as we aren't spending any money on players coming in then we have a fair bit! We have also moved into our new stadium!

Youth Intake 2023 - Overview

Another very good intake! A winger, a striker, a decent enough full back was all on the wish list for the team. If only we had a centre back it would have made it great! Lets look at PA vs PPA....

Not as great as last year but still very solid for us. Another midfielder as the main prospect but nice to see a striker in there as we badly needed that even if his current CA is poor! Nice to see a full back in there as well with good potential!

Having Gyazo issues currently and can't seem to get the pics of the players so will have to do it down the line!

End Of Season

Results

Well its not a pretty sight at all. February we lost every game and in May we didn't win a league game. The run of fixtures in may was mental Barca, Atletico, Real and Valencia and Sevilla in a row! Was it enough to stay up?

League Table

Not this time unfortunately. We did amazing to stay up last season but we are still missing that quality that we dont currently have. A year or 2 back in the second division isn't the worst that could happen to the club!

Spanish Cup

A little mini run in the cup was halted by Atletico in the 4th round!

Player Review - Kevin Capo (YP22A)

Well on his way to becoming our best player at the club. His development has been fantastic and long may it continue. He's not wanted yet and hopefully that will continue!

Goalkeeper Watch

Gabi (YP22D) got 3 goals and 1 assist in 29 games whilst Parreno (who is leaving for 2.5m in the summer) got 4 goals in 13 games!

Youth Review

I wont go too in depth here as I will do a squad review at start of next season. 5 of the YP23 players were called up into the main squad and most got some form of game time. Development has been much better this season with no fewer than 14 players hitting at least double figures for the season! Up to 4 players over the 100 CA barrier as well which is nice to see and with us being in the 2nd division it will hopefully give me more opportunity to give game time to those further down the list!
