hoddle1404
One of the changes made by SI is changing role suitability to role ability and the reason for the change provided by SI, “The old ‘Suitability’ circles only displayed how suited a player was to the role, starting at the top end with the full green circle for the players best role and working backwards from there. This led to a number of misleading cases where players would show as having yellow/orange role icons for certain roles, when in fact, due to their general high ability and versatility, they would perform well in those roles.” While I would agree that the change made was headed in the right direction but the explanation just confuses everyone. Is it because a player who is naturally suited to a role that he can perform well in that role or just because that player has high ability and versatility that he can perform well in various roles? For example, an AML player who is naturally suited as winger may not even be capable playing as Trequartista even if he has high ability and attributes. It makes sense that if a player is suited to play a specific role(s) then he has some ability to perform on that role due to his CA. So, in other words am I right to say suitability and ability are correlated? What I found contradicting is that role suitability is still reflected in tactics. Not sure if this is a bug or intended but anyway, I’ve reported this. If Bale, as an AM R advanced playmaker, has a good role ability rating, then how his suitability in that role is unconvincing. Are we saying that Bale’s suitability as playmaker is unconvincing but he has the ability to perform decently for that role? It is hard to assume what is the fine line that separates between suitability and ability or how different/similar are they. Maybe SI would be in the best position to understand as the developer of the game but for a general end user, chances that we may get confused
HUNT3R
Role Ability vs Role Suitability Quote A note for anyone wondering about FM20's Role Suitability circles becoming Role Ability stars in FM21: ‘Role Ability’ has replaced ‘Role Suitability’ to give a more accurate overall picture of how good a player is within in a role. The old ‘Suitability’ circles only displayed how suited a player was to the role, starting at the top end with the full green circle for the players best role and working backwards from there. This lead to a number of misleading cases where players would show as having yellow/orange role icons for certain roles, when in fact, due to their general high ability and versatility, they would perform well in those roles. The new ‘Role Ability’ stars solves this by factoring in the players general ability, as well as their suitability to the role, to give a much more accurate picture. By showing how good a player is within a role it also allows for the these stars to be used when comparing players for a certain role, whereas the previous icons were only relevant to that particular player. hoddle1404
Thanks got it. But to make reference in the screenshot, are you saying that you still can have an unconvincing suitability to the role but good general ability to to give a good role ability? Is it not a good role suitability complement the general ability to provide the overall picture of a role ability?
michaeltmurrayuk
The text description is a bug - the bit where it says 'Unconvincing' in your first screenshot, the text hasn't been updated to reflect the changes in how the Role Ratings work. At the moment just pay attention to the Star Ratings rather than the text description.
