Just because the players are unheard of to some people, doesn't mean they won't be big signings. Jan Molby? Sander Westerveld? Milan Baros? Sami Hyypia? Kuyt was linked to United and Arsenal before us as well, he was being touted as a big signing for them. Why is it we don't think he's big enough? We can't all go out and sign Shevchenko.

That's why we need Owen. I love Rafa but we clearly do not have the players to succeed in a 4-5-1 right now. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I hope you're not saying Owen should play in a 4-5-1 then?

I agree 4-5-1 is crap, we don't have the right forward for it(maybe Crouch?), but we shouldn't be playing 4-5-1 at home against a team that have just been promoted from the division below? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I'm saying that, at this point in time, none of our strikers would succeed in a 4-5-1 given our wingers simply aren't the right style for it. This would include Owen if we sign him. Even with Crouch, a tactic which relies on holding the ball up for the likes of Bolo Zenden or even JAR just isn't going to have a lot of success.

If the chairman was going to pay out of his pocket then it's just not right, rafa should be getting money to bring in needed players.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> RAFA: THE KIDS HAVE A CHANCE

Mark Platt 04 September 2005

Rafael Benitez has hinted that more young players could follow Antonio Barragan into the Liverpool first team squad during the coming season.

Barragan, a close-season signing from Sevilla, is one of several youngsters who form the backbone of a new look Reds reserve side.

At just 17-years of age he became the youngest player to appear for the club under Benitez, when coming on as a second half substitute in the Champions League qualifier away to CSKA Sofia last month.

Fellow new signings Jack Hobbs, Godwin Antwi, Miki Roque, Ramon Calliste and Besian Idrizaj, not to mention the local lads who are coming through the ranks of the Academy, will now be hoping to follow in Barragan's footsteps and the manager has spoken encouragingly about their prospects.

"Maybe they will have similar possibilities," says Benitez, who admits he'll be keeping a keen eye on their progress. "It depends on injuries and themselves. If they play really well then it will be difficult for me to ignore them.

"From what I have seen so far they have done well and worked hard. We have a lot of young players in the reserve team now and it is a little bit light on experience.

"What we are trying to do is prepare a new team that will be packed with quality players and in time we hope these players will be ready for the first team."

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

After seeing Hobbs in reserve action, I'm really hoping he gets a chance, played really well in midfield. icon14.gif

Of course we don't, but it isn't really something we like, when the mancs come in and tell us how lucky we where and bla bla bla. We were better than the teams we were playing at the time we played them. But of course if they had played their best game all the games against us history might be different. That does not mean that we are unworthy of winning it though.

If we sell Cisse / Morientes / Dudek / Kirkland / Traore we'd raise at most £15m. If we reach the QF of the CL and finish top 4 in the league I can see how we would have an extra £10m to spend.

But £25m won't go very far considering we'd need 2 new strikers before we start looking at right midfielders. And a possible left back too. So even if we did have £25m to play with in the summer, I can still see someone like Pennant being as much as we can afford. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I disagree with that mate.

I think a RM is the No.1 priority. The strikeforce isn't up to scratch atm but in the summer, I want Rafa to be concentrating on a top notch winger.

Presuming we sell Cisse, 1 top quality striker could be brought in. We'd then have xxx, Crouch, Fowler(hopefully) and FSP(fresh back form 6 months more Premiership experience)

Can I get a random Gary McAllister love-fest going?

44 yards \o/

<3

MOM in the UEFA cup final \o/

Gary Mac puts in a freekick in the FA Cup final, Babbell wins the header on the back post, knocked down to Owen, BOOM. 1-1 \o/

Scoring past Pepe (apparently) in the UEFA semi final \o/ Kluivert handball \o/

So many great memories in such a short period of time. What a waste of money!

Scotland Under-21 international winger Robbie Foy is now back at Melwood after his three month loan spell with League Two side Wrexham came to an end.

Foy finished the 2004/05 season on a three month loan spell at Chester City.

Foy made the move to train full time at Melwood during the 2003/04 season.

Foy came through the ranks at the Academy and is a Scotland Under-21 international.

Foy made his Liverpool senior debut as a substitute during the pre-season win over Wrexham in Rafa Benitez's first game in charge of the Reds in July 2004.

He can play on the right wing and up front but many see his best position as a left winger.

Foy was an unused substitute for the first team during the Carling Cup win at Tottenham in 2004.

Been loaned out twice now icon14.gif (just seemed more icon_biggrin.gif)

Watched the Madrid v Sociedad match tonight and Mark Gonzalez impressed once again. Looks a bright star and is the stand out player in their side this season apparently. He gave Cicinho a torrid time and scored the Sociedad equaliser with some good opportunistic play in the box icon14.gif

But the talk is that it may take another 6 months after this season for him to qualify for a Spanish Passport - so if our great government rule he can't have a work permit in the summer then we won't see him at Anfield till at least the new year icon_frown.gif

I got a ton of songs from various bands for my driving trip home, so I know tons of songsm but not really the bands that do them.

I'm still big on apostle of hustle (broken social scene side project) - try animal fat or kings and queens

rogue wave - try bird on a wire or publish my love

twilight singers - try anything from the album blackberry belle, especially number nine and the killer

chad van gaalen - try clinically dead or after the afterlife

guillemots - trains to brazil

new pornographers - the bones

augie march - songs in the key of chance or asleep in perfection

this is all basically slow-mid tempo rock with a good bit of melancholy and good lyrics
