DeafParrot
Just because the players are unheard of to some people, doesn't mean they won't be big signings. Jan Molby? Sander Westerveld? Milan Baros? Sami Hyypia? Kuyt was linked to United and Arsenal before us as well, he was being touted as a big signing for them. Why is it we don't think he's big enough? We can't all go out and sign Shevchenko. Barragan, a close-season signing from Sevilla, is one of several youngsters who form the backbone of a new look Reds reserve side. At just 17-years of age he became the youngest player to appear for the club under Benitez, when coming on as a second half substitute in the Champions League qualifier away to CSKA Sofia last month. Fellow new signings Jack Hobbs, Godwin Antwi, Miki Roque, Ramon Calliste and Besian Idrizaj, not to mention the local lads who are coming through the ranks of the Academy, will now be hoping to follow in Barragan's footsteps and the manager has spoken encouragingly about their prospects. "Maybe they will have similar possibilities," says Benitez, who admits he'll be keeping a keen eye on their progress. "It depends on injuries and themselves. If they play really well then it will be difficult for me to ignore them. "From what I have seen so far they have done well and worked hard. We have a lot of young players in the reserve team now and it is a little bit light on experience. "What we are trying to do is prepare a new team that will be packed with quality players and in time we hope these players will be ready for the first team." </div></BLOCKQUOTE> After seeing Hobbs in reserve action, I'm really hoping he gets a chance, played really well in midfield.
