Yes opponent instructions as mark tight Along with in player instructions mark tighter and Mark specific player. it works well if you like to attack on the transition as well cause the full back will attack higher due to the fact he knows the attacker is with him. But when you win the ball there is huge gaps for you no very deep striker to attack. It’s a real weapon in defence and offence. be careful with man marking with players who stay back at set plays. Because say you use a full back to man mark a winger but he stays back at corners. As soon as the play breaks he will abandon his position and chase the man he’s marking. It can catch you out. Thanks for the advice, will look in to it just for my strikers. I guess my 352 (wing backs and one DM) would be OK with it, as I'll concede possession to the opponents centre backs but still have enough men centrally if they try to go through the middle of the pitch. I would say so. But does mean you loose a focal point. I would maybe just use one striker on what side you think is the biggest threat. Cause I have 3 strikers my poacher still pins both centre backs. if I was using my 3412. I use my outside forwards to the wing backs but I use my shadow striker to press the cbs. really depends on what you want from your system to be honest. I like to have at least 3 ways to attack in each system. two that are when we have the ball Overloaded side where if they don’t match it you have a extra man. To run riot in the zone of choice. The underloaded side(new name) were my players are left 1v1 if they match my overload side. roles and duties and build up instructions are key to how these two work. And then my transition attack this is more about the defensive set up becoming a weapon the man marking comes into play here coupled with my High D line but standard engagement making us compact and leaving space behind opponent. It Draws them to the half way or just into our half. Where we now engage intensely win the ball and have two wide forwards deep with acres to run into a poacher who can exploit the space or link play. Throw in that the playmaker has the trait plays killer balls and it’s a real weapon for cutting teams apart that overcommit as you counter them. Remember if the counter is on the game overrides all other instructions and goes for the counter.

Am no expert man would never claim to be. Just like to share how i play the game and how I see it! I love the tactical side in real life and in game. I would say about fm17 I was really frustrated by the game so I started researching and reading up. Big key thing to me is no looking for the perfect system there isn’t one! It’s about being flexible but within a core principle! with Odd my main aim from the start has been to exploit the space behind teams while being defensively solid. But last year I had to become more aggressive so you have to be flexible in a sense. You need to grow as your team grows or the game works you out. That’s why i switched to an attacking mentality cause I felt our possession was so high last year we made the most chances but didn’t take enough so I wanted to be even more aggressive. SixPointer
Odds BK Chasing Glory May 2024 Potential banana skin month! on paper looks straight forward, but extremely easy to slip up especially with our newest bogey team Stabek in the mix. Taking on Lillestrøm for the first time in the league as well should be a great game! Expect a very visual update packed full of goals. Sickening way to loose at well 90+4 minutes with a former player doing the damage! @JonRonning98 (not to sell never sell player who are on the SI forums . Stamer with another wonder freekick as well that is 2/2 for him against us. I have been going on about set plays now for some time. So much so it’s now part of the club culture. Here is a lovely worked thrown in routine. Francis with a lovely rabona cross to Tjåland who heads home. Incredible partnership they have struck up! 5 assist and 5 goal combos! Banana skin anyone? Bottom of the league against top in the Cupen? New manager? Well the back ups crash out the Cupen in the capital! I think after about 15 minutes I knew it wasn't going to be our day. There will be no treble this season unless Odd pull up trees in Europe. A Super Albert Braut Tjåland hatrick gets us back to winning ways! His cousin Erling Haaland would be proud off this one! Using the variation tactic killed the Ranheim wing play and allowed us to counter effectively. The second goal is a screamer! Look how compact the team is from the goal kick, defence is virtually on the halfway line, strikers deep allowing us space to attack in behind. Tjåland this time decides he will attack it all by himself and smashes home superb solo effort. A nice overhead of the third goal a deadly counter. The ball is turned over, Rasmussen dropping deep get on the ball and drags a player out to him and fires it into Aga one ball in behind for Tjåland to slide it home. This is all on attacking mentality may I add. You don't have to play cautious to counter teams. After the game Tjåland has signed a new five year deal making him a star player! All bonuses aimed to score goals! A really frustrating game up till the 74th minute. Stabek sat incredibly deep and would not attack us. Yet again the set plays came to the rescue as two goals come from them so vital that they did. This could easily have been 2 points dropped due to a very well drilled defensive side. Short throw worked well fantastic cross from young Olsen, Different delivery same result at the back post. One striker going short along with the RPM really allows the overload to work as it often leaves the taker or one other free to cross. Freekick this time. Beautifully whipped ball from Abu to the far post. Far post is real danger area from set plays. Every corner or freekick is deliberately aimed to either the near or far post. I find freekick far post is the winner but near post is very deadly from corners. Variations are key! I have 3 variations set for each one. What a game of football! Lillestrøm done all in their power to break Odd's marvellous run. Both teams left everything out there, really well-matched styles as Lillestrøm dominated the ball against Nesselquist's quick transitions. It looked like it was going to be a share of the spoils until........ Another set pieces to the rescue! Omerovic breaks the deadlock, lovely floated ball to the far post from Aas. 3 points to the league leaders but Lillestrøm deserved a point out of the game for a great performance. A really sore point losing the winning run in the 94th minute to a former player, especially after going on to win the next 3 league games. Crashing out the cup was really not acceptable two years in a row now that Odd haven't been in the race for the Cupen, and the backups are arguably stronger now than when they won the Cupen. 11 games in and flying! But everyone else has upped their game as well. Only 6 points in it and Molde are starting to motor they have turned around their bad start. Goals conceded 7 that is more like a Nesselquist side which is crazy as we have moved to a more attacking mentality. Best form of defence is attack it would appear. Most quiet at our goal and most aggressive at our opponents attack really is the best form of defence!! This is Ole Martin Nesselquist's happy place exactly what he wants to hear from his team of analyst’s Thanks For Reading! SixPointer
Odds Bk Chasing Glory June 2024 Small month nevertheless extremely crucial. Doesn't get much tougher than meeting Molde when they are in top form. Kristiansund is always a test and they have been patchy of late but still in the mix. Valerenga are 2nd bottom but underestimate them at your peril as they showed us in the Cupen. Leading the way and by some distance in domestic player development. Another Odd player breaks into the national team strangely though as it’s not the one I would have expected. Sandberg has struggled with injuries and Omerovic, Heggheim and Daland have kept him out the side since. The club and the league on the up in Europe although some distance away from automatic champions league slots. Really need more from the other teams in the league to help us boost it. Colossal result at the Aker Stadion! Not an easy place to go by any stretch of imagination, as Molde get beat there for the first time in 22 games! What a fight back from 1-0. Could be a season defining win and makes it 20 games unbeaten in the league! Molde dominated but Odd are clinical on the break and soaked up lots of pressure well to come out on top. Great pass from Tonnessen as he splits the centre backs in the channel perfectly and Aga matches it with a wonderful run and finish. On sheer importance alone this gets goal of the month never mind its quality. Very short-lived spell at Odd for Johan Hove. Early signs of his game were very promising only to be outdone by Abu Francis. He wasn't willing to wait for his chance to shine and fell out with Nesselquist. Ole Martin eager for it to not turn into the Gronli saga accepted his transfer request. Hove moves on for a small profit and a large next sale profit. Ole Martin showing his ruthless side and now knows he won’t accept it from anyone. Rønningen and Gronli being replaced only supports his argument that no one is bigger than the club. Another huge victory in what was in truth an extremely poor game off football. Both teams cancelling each other and turning it into a battle. One goal wins it another one of Odds fine set pieces does the trick and sends the Skagerak faithful home happy. Job done and its five wins on the spin. I true sign of champions winning when not at there best. Front post routine works its magic this time. Tjåland is the real deal! Looks like he’s now starting to realise his potential. Francis has really filled Rønningens boots in every sense, even his delivery from set plays can match the old fan favourite who left in the summer. Sandberg picks up another little niggle he really is having one of them seasons, always getting knocks and not getting a run in the side. Good thing is Omerovic is playing out his skin. Bekkensten the youngster out on loan at Haugesund gets a really bad one. Now returns to the club for treatment and recovery. Had been doing well in his maiden season in the top league looked like he could come and fill in for the hove sale when he leaves. Clinical counter attacking comes out on top! Fortunate isn't how I would describe it. Abu Francis gets is first with finish after betting two men on the edge. Sannes showed he can be a big match winner for us when Tjåland isn't up to it. Another brace for him and now AC Milan are monitoring him. Six wins on the trot and revenge is served after knocking us out the cup. Italian giants are starting to circle for a couple of our top talents! I think Sannes I would try to hold out for 10 million. Moi hasn't really got going yet but has the biggest potential at the club ane in a few years he could be a superstar so 10 million again. Of course, if good deals with sell on value comes in it will need to be taken seriously. Massive month to come through with all 3 wins! The gap moves to 8 points, but we can’t take the foot of the pedal. European football is kicking off soon so it’s vital to take every point when we are fresh and at full strength. Top scores joint best defence it’s the perfect recipe for Nesselquist and his men. Statistically on fire preforming to the very top of our game. Opposite ends of the scale on efficiency, Outscoring our XG and on the whole statistically miles in front of the Eliteserien average. Another coach of the month goes in Nesselquist's office at the training ground. Thanks for reading see you next month when Europe starts

SixPointer
Odds Bk Chasing Glory July 2024 Another last-minute equaliser costs Odd heavily dropping two points in a game that they dominated throughout. Goals at each end of the second half brings their winning run to an end. With a 2-goal lead going into half time and with countless chances to put the game to bed it’s a sore one to take. Luckily, the slip up goes unpunished with Rosenborg, Molde and Bodo/Glimt all dropping points the gap really should have opened up. Real bad timing this one! Champions league qualifiers up next and now without Sannes who has come up with some really important goals this season. Travelling to Tbilisi the capital of Georgia to take on dynamo, who won the cup winners cup in 1981. Their Success is more major in Europe than Odd, but I would expect us to beat them as we are more than capable. Away leg first can be tricky! Rønningen deal adds some extra money into the balance! Cruise control for Norway’s oldest club! 20 minutes on the clock and the game was about tied up. Tbilisi offered no real attacking threat. Omerovic continues his fine run of getting on the end of set plays. Having his big breakthrough season and keeping Sandberg out the team at the minute. 3 away goals and a clean sheet perfect first leg. Captain, Leader, Legend decides that this will be his last season. Let’s make sure he goes out with a bang with a league medal! Fantastic servant to the club and will become a under 19's coach at when he finishes up. Failed to take our chances again and its now back-to-back draws in the league. These are the games that will cost us. The European football would always cause bother but Odd were at full strength due to being able to rest players for the easy second leg. The only real positive was that Aga's equaliser was really well worked and takes the goal of the month award! Lovely volley from some nice build up play and a pinpoint cross. Tobias buries Tbilisi with a perfect hatrick! 6-0 on aggregate a fantastic opening tie to set off on our ques to play in Europe’s elite competition. Eastern European giants up next and the last team from the iron curtain to win this famous trophy. The won it in 1991 which is one of the best champions league stories to do date. Struggled in recent times, but an away trip to either of the two giants of Serbia football is always a wild and intense affair. 7 points in front now! Should really be 11 points clear! Two awfully bad draws but remaining unbeaten is still a huge statement at this point but Rosenberg are hot on our heels and ready to pounce.

SixPointer
Odds Bk Chasing Glory August 2024 After the shambolic Johan Hove ordeal who lasted months at the club Nesselquist decided it was time to spend some hard-earned cash. Splashing out on a Norwegian record deal for the young Faroese international. What a player this kid is! ready to challenge Francis and Aas for a shot in the first team. Has pretty much everything you want and at a such a young age. Another bad injury for a highly rated prospect! That two now ruled out of coming into the first team mix. Solid 2-0-win against Aalesund who we always seem to have a big upper hand on. Tjåland continued his fine goal scoring form but, it’s the new kid on the block that grabs the headlines. Stale gets his first senior goal and in doing so becomes the youngest goal scorer for Norway’s oldest football club. Two bad injuries suffered in the Red Star game. Johnsen and Rasmussen will both be out for a minimum of 4 weeks. The main issue is when in the game they were injured. Tonnessen and Reitan picked up early knocks and on 65 minutes Lauritsen had done his job and was dead on his feet. Rasmussen replaced him and then got injured 5 minutes later so down to ten we went. The Egell-Johnsen went down and came off and it was down to 9 remarkably Tjåland stuck another one in the back of the net to get his hattrick from an unorthodox wide target man role. Steamrolled our eastern European giants! 4-1 going on 10. Frustrating that they actually came away with a goal that they never deserved. Nonetheless very convincing first leg and with 4 away goals I would say it’s safe to bet that we have done enough already. Goal above is a nice move with only 9 men on the park and a ruthless finish from Thailand. Back to league business and it’s a really costly draw in the league. With huge fixtures coming up in the league with Rosenborg and Bodo back-to-back Odd couldn’t afford to be complacent; like this. The unbeaten run goes on but in poor fashion. Tjåland is really now starting give his cousin a run for his money for champions league goals. The last eastern European team to win Europe’s top club prize are demolished over two legs and its now only the filthy rich RB Salzburg that stands in our way of European football. Their playing style may suite the Odd transition attacks! Crucial four game period! the squad is thin with some injuries as well which throws another spanner in the works. Rotation is necessary but does Nesselquist go against his league over all else moto now that he can almost taste champions league football. Tune in for the next update to find out! Thanks For Reading Ive cut the month in half as its big and big games. Plus, the vessel is in at my work so I’m currently doing 12 hour shifts at the minute so limited time. SixPointer
Odds Bk Chasing Glory Four Do Or Die Games! In the dying embers of the game the perfect away performance and result is swiped from under Odds feet. Yet again it’s another costly late goal which has been the Achilles heel this season for Nesselquist’s men. Had he been offered the results before the game am sure he would have been more than happy to get Salzburg back to the Skagerak. After all, Celtic killed them in the first leg at this stage last year. Abu joins the injury list and will now miss the Rosenborg game. 26 games unbeaten is a remarkable run! I knew the champions league games falling on games like Rosenborg was going to make it tough. It’s the one team I really didn’t want to lose it too as well! In the end the backups and a strong front three couldn’t get us over the line I had to use them with us being so close that we could taste the group stages. It was one of them games from the off I knew I was up against it. The fact that we lose top spot after 23 games unbeaten tells you how competitive the league is. I gambled and played our star striker at Rosenborg and now it seriously backfired. In my whole FM career ive never used injections but with the champions league poised it is a must really especially after losing the unbeaten run in the league due to resting players for the big game. The biggest clean sheet to date gets Odd over the line!!! Tjåland played but his fire power wasn’t required as our defensive resolve gets the job done, A man marking job and the extra man in midfield late on does the job! That money is frightening for the club! The first time since 2008 a Norwegian team has qualified and only the third team to do so following in the footsteps of Rosenborg (7) And Molde (1) and now Odd do it for the first time in their history! extends the injury but we are in the group stages so job done on that front and now Sannes can re stake a claim in the side. Group Draw Looking at the draw before the names pulled out the hat. I think B&D are the best chance of progressing, having already chucked Valencia in the Europa last season I would lean more towards D. Glamour groups would be A,C,H. I wouldn’t even mind these you want to play the best teams. I can’t see us being better than 3rd in most groups, but shocks have already been provided. Tasty group! Being portrayed as a tough group, but they all are at this stage. We avoid the super clubs of Barcelona, Real, Liverpool, City, United, PSG and Bayern. So, I can’t complain too much. Dortmund comes back to the Skagerak which was Odds biggest European game before Ole Martin Nesselquist took over at the helm. The war of words continues between the two! Bodo will have a point to prove am sure of it! After an incredibly challenging month I can accept that. Bodo dominated really from start to finish but a goal from a nicely worked throw in put us ahead. Stale never opened his mouth after the game as he still didn’t get one over Nesselquist. August was a battle and I think on the whole it’s a success. Losing the unbeaten run is tough to take as well as a poor draw at home to Brann but champions league football is secured for the first time in history. Rosenborg have been flying and have capitalised on our poor draws. Off the 5 draws 3 have come in the last minute of games proving very costly. It’s now very much became a two-horse race, but we really need to buck up our ideas. It doesn’t really get much closer at the minute we have scored one more goal and they have conceded one less. I leave you with the goal that secured Champions league football. Nice link up lay from the deep lying forward and RPM. Aas pass finds Tjåland who was instructed to stay wide and play in the space left by RB Salzburg's inverted wing back who was coat forward in the turnover. lucky he gets the break of the ball of the block buy sometimes you need that. Especially when you think Rosenberg has qualified only 7 times and Molde once. Shows how difficult it’s has been for Norwegian teams

SixPointer
Odds Bk Chasing Glory September 2024 Three home games on the bounce. one being our first Champions league game in history, as we welcome back Dortmund to the Skagerak arena which gave Odd their biggest tie in Europe pre Nesselquist days. The German giants now return but this time it’s in the champions league proper and they enter a fortress this time around. League business was up first, and it was a great start to the game and the month! Aga with a real poachers goal, Sandberg getting on the end of a corner and Sannes with a great run and finish sees of Tromso. Larsen gets a goal against his former side suppose when you produce the most players playing in the league that will happen pretty often. The bookmakers have stated that we are merely there to make up the numbers, Clearly, they haven’t paid attention to some of our huge giant killings in the two lesser European tournaments. Unfortunately, Tjåland vs Haaland will have to wait as the younger cousin is ruled out of this one with the calf strain. Think it’s the biggest giant killing to date! Ole Martin has said it many a time "At home I fancy my boys against anyone, on our day we can take the best teams in Europe" The wing backs provided the ammunition this time! Reitan scores from a freak mistake from the keeper coming for a cross and completely missing. Sometimes you need that luck. But in all truth Haaland and co were kept extremely quiet as Odd let them have the ball in less dangerous areas before pressing hard in their own half then counter attacking. The short throw breaks down slightly, but the wing back still gets his cross in. Reitan picks out Tonnessen who makes that textbook run to the back and loops a header into the far post to send Odd on their way to a famous victory. The money spinning from this tournament could really set us up for years to come, even if we didn’t qualify for the next two years. Ole Martin a famous European win you must be proud? "incredibly proud the boys executed the tactical plan perfectly and they get their just rewards" Is this your best and most important result as Odd manager? "I think you can’t isolate one game, if you don’t add up all the league games won then a league title doesn’t happen and in turn, we don’t even make the tournament so for me personally every win is as important as the next" Is this the beginning of a potential run into the knockout stages? "I don't think it’s time to get carried away the boys played a blinder and the plan worked but we have to be prepared to do so in every game as we come up against Europe’s elite" Thanks for your time Mr Nesselquist and congratulations on a huge win. "Thanks anytime" League action resumed with a tough test at Haugesund. 5th in the league but they only tend to win or lose they don’t do draws. Odd prevail and take all 3 points thanks mostly to the best keeper in Norway. Rossbach saved a crucial penalty that would have cancelled out Daland’s header from a freekick. Lauritsen then finished off a lovely team move to seal all three points. Rosenborg snatched a late late winner in Bergen after Brann had levelled late on! It really is neck in neck! It’s the biggest title challenge Rosenborg have mounted in recent times! I’m sure he is looking forward to it, after spoiling our winning run earlier in the season with a last-minute equaliser he got his revenge on Nesselquist who sold him to Swedish side AIK. Nesselquist’s men take revenge on the team and former player who crushed their winning run and do so with a resounding 3-0 victory. Back-to-back penalty saves from Rossbach albeit the team were coasting but it gets another big clean sheet and makes it three in a row in doing so. Great left-hand side overload draws the opponents out of shape and allows the poacher to break in behind as goals continue to flow without top marksman Tjåland showing the great depth we have up top. Not to forget a secret weapon signed and loaned out at the start of the season more on this later though.... Rosenborg drop points at home to Bodo in a huge match in the title race! Molde smash five past Kristiansund to show there not ready to lie down without a fight! Perfect month! big European upset coupled with three really professional league performances. 3 clean sheets only 1 goal conceded and 10 scored frightening form to have at this stage. The analyst’s stats provide truly little shock when you see the from above. The defence is more what we have come to expect form Nesselquist, but it now has aggression in attack. earlier in his reign it was more just solid at the back and a lack of aggression then last year it was more aggression less defence. Now it seems he has found the perfect potion. Only two points separates us now! Both teams unwilling to give up their quest for Eliteserien glory! Molde trail us by 12 points but I’m still not willing to rule them out all it would take is a few bad results for the top two and they would come back into contention and Odd still have them to play. Best defence and attack in the league, if that is kept up am sure Odd will secure their third title in a row.
