shoey999
Hi all, I am stuck and would like some advice. I don't like taking other people's tactics as I see this as cheating, I like to do my own. After having one tactic that worked for me, all of a sudden it didnt. So..I have come up with another, which has saved my job!!! But the problem I now have, and I have had with every tactic I do, is my assistant always always telling me I have a big gap between defence and midfield. I have tried sticking a defensive midfield in, having no forward or backward arrows on any defender or midfielder and various other things like a normal or defensive minded approach etc! I see no reason, with ALL of the different things I have tried that none work, I mean NONE, to fill this gap that the opposition can use against me! Side note.....I didnt think after playing the demo I would one, get this game and two love it,.....unfortunatly for me and my girlfriend I am once again gripped and addicted to this game and think it's great! We all know that, i'l play one more match feeling, or I'll only play for one hour! Or I'll just do until xmas, but then doing transfers means you carry on till end of jan, then your near end of season etc lol Thanks for anyones help and advice. stufair
If your tactic is working for you i wouldn't listen to what the ass manager is saying to be honest. It seems a hard one to get round but by looking in ttf thread i got round it but then my attacking style took a hit. If you are winning just ignore him. But i know where your coming from the wife is starting to get a bit annoyed why i will not let her get on the computer so she can go on facebook and ebay. homerjnick
You get the "gap" because your mentality of your defenders and attackers is too wide. I.e.e you defenders mentality is on say notch 6 or 7 but your midfield is on 12 and attackers even higher. Ideally, you need to choose a "mentality" for your whole team and try and not stray 4 or 5 notches above or below it. what you are seeing is your defenders mentality low so they are staying back but your midfield/attack has TOO high a mentality so they go up the pitch resulting in a "gap". Wainstar
I had the same problem for ages and sorted after I read the TT & F bit about mentality. This is what I use for 'standard' home games. FB 9 FB 9 DC 8 DC 8 MC (d) 10 MC (a) 12 ML 11 MR 11 FC (d) 11 FC (a) 15 NB The numbers are the number of clicks from the furthest left hand setting. You need to choose an overall mentality and then set your defenders/midfielders/attackers according to that over mentality.

Yeah, you wouldn't get the gap with that mentality.

ALEXANDER999
@ homerjnick & shoey999 , Hi guys just wanted your thoughts here -- I have tested the Ruleof 2 and rule of 1 player mentalities in FM08 --and I believe that with the FM09 may be more suited to it. So here is my thoughts --I am playing with a 4-4-2 formation - where one FC has a arrow going backwords ..... Here is my mentalities for players and I would love your thoughts. DC 6 ---WB's 8 --- DM/MC 8 --- MC/AMC 10 --- MR/AMR & ML/AML 12 --- FC 14 ---ST 16 So with this I am not having the gap between the defence and midfield -- I have watched the games and are pretty free flowing ---HOWEVER .. I am getting the following from my Ass Man "Gap between Attack & Midfield is far too big & the supply from midfield just isn't getting anywhere" My question is what changes should I make ? Should I increase the mentality of the DM/MC to "10" up 2 --currently 8 --& MC/AMC to "12" up 2 currently 10 My concern is that my 2 wingers --MR/AMR & ML/AML are currently sitting at 12 ---and my FC - Free Role is at 14 --with my ST at 16 Cheers would love both your feedback & thoughts from the both of you if possible. By the way I am playing 2 games --1 as Ajax and another as Marseille ...Ajax is a lot more free flowing and more enjoyable to watch than Marseille. Cheers guys
