What Is The Difference Between Pressing and Marking?

So, what is the difference between pressing and marking?  What happens if I increase marking but have not assigned a specific opposition player for someone on my team to mark?

Not sure what the official definition is, but my feeling is that marking is never being far away from the opponent, so that as soon as he gets the ball, the marker is right onto him.  Pressing is the act of cutting down space and not giving players who have the ball the time to do something with it
