In short, If a player is in the first team but is set to "available for reserves" then there really should be an in-built override that prioritises his position in the first team - so as to avoid the ridiculous nature of subs being unavailable for a match just because of a clash with a reserve fixture. The scenario being, my second choice goalie, I should be able to just set him to be permanently available for the reserves and not have to bother double checking that I've made him unavailable should a fixture clash come round. This is hardly a realistic scenario is it? I don't know how often the Man Utd 1st team and reserves clash in this way in real life, but it's hardly likely that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or any of his staff spends any time thinking about whether Dean Henderson is available to be on the first team's bench or not.
