Development squad meetings

Development meetings (similar to the recruitment meetings) between the first team manager, U23 manager, U18 manager, head of youth development, loan manager, director of football, a recruitment analyst and scout. These could occur at the following times:

  • Start of season
  • Start of transfer window
  • Midway point between end of transfer window and the start of the next one
  • End of season

These meetings should identify:

U23s

  • Best 4 or 5 prospects.
  • U23 players ready to move directly into the first team (if the meeting takes place at the end of the season or end of the transfer window it should include players returning from loan at that point).
  • U23 players who need a loan move. A list of potential clubs should then be provided that is compromised of clubs already showing interest in the player, clubs who have shortfalls in the player's position (either through lack of players or lack of ability) and clubs who have similar tactical setups so that you could send a player to a team that plays in a similar manner to you. Either the human manager or the loan manager (depending on delegation) should be able to offer the players for loan to the teams you select from this screen. This should be able to be done in bulk or individually and you'd specify the terms similarly to the "Offer to clubs" screen.
  • U23 players who should be moved on permanently because they're not going to make the grade. One of the pieces of feedback could be that there is a younger player in their position with higher CA and/or PA who is a better prospect.
  • A list of U23 contract expiry dates.
  • Positions to prioritise for either promotions from the U18s or recruitment from elsewhere. If you've just loaned out all your right-backs then the game should flag that there is either a player who is ready to promote or that you could do with finding someone to come in on loan or permanently. The recruitment analyst and scout can then go away and find targets like the recruitment meetings and show a list of players that they already know about and recommend.
  • Recommendations for prospects to sign (e.g. this player is the best player of his age group, you should look at signing him no matter what the cost).
  • Most improved players since the last meeting and any changes to the staff's opinion on them.
  • Players who have stalled/regressed since the last meeting and any changes to the staff's opinion on them.
  • Feedback on players who are out on loan:
    • Who's playing/developing well and who isn't.
    • Whether the loan is still suitable or if they should be recalled and either kept at the club or loaned out elsewhere (could provide club recommendations here).
  • For the end of season meeting, identify players who will be too old for U18s next season, the players joining/leaving the club and how the squad looks as a result - similar to the squad depth Team Report screen where it has the list of players by ability in the formation.
  • A recommendation from either the U23 manager or HOYD as to what to do with each player next season - promote, loan, keep in the U23s, offer new contract etc.

U18s

  • Best 4 or 5 prospects.
  • U18 players ready to move into either the U23s or even the first team.
  • Recommendations to offer professional contracts.
  • Positions to prioritise for recruitment or from your yearly youth intake. As above, recommendations from your recruitment analyst/scout.
  • Recommendations for players to release at the end of their scholarship.
  • Most improved players since the last meeting and any changes to the staff's opinion on them.
  • Players who have stalled/regressed since the last meeting and any changes to the staff's opinion on them.
  • For the end of season meeting, identify players who will be too old for U18s next season, the players leaving the club, the players joining from the youth intake or elsewhere and how the squad looks as a result - similar to the squad depth Team Report screen where it has the list of players by ability in the formation.
  • A recommendation from either the U18 manager or HOYD as to what to do with each player next season - promote, loan, keep in the U18s, offer new contract etc.

As with other meetings you should be able to delegate this meeting responsibility to the following staff roles:

  • Assistant Manager
  • First Team Coach
  • Director of Football
  • Technical Director
  • Head of Youth Development
