A couple of quick questions to help me decide on buying FM21

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow gaffers. :)

I need your advice please.

I'm still playing FM19 at present, as I'm obsessive about every small detail, and play every game in full match mode. With only a couple of nights a week free to play, you can imagine that getting through the seasons takes some time. As such, I only buy the game every two or three years, or I'd never accomplish anything.

I was originally planning on getting FM21 in the summer, when I'll have the cash for a nice new speedy PC, but having seen it is currently on a 25% off deal, I now have a dilemna.

The PC I currently play on is a fair few years old now, but still handles FM19 ok enough for my liking. It lags a bit on decent 3D settings, but playing matches from the Data Analyst view is a smooth watch, and I actually quite like that vantage point. I'm likely in the minority, but what I love most about the game is the actual mechanics of running a football club, and I don't really care so much what the graphics look like. Matches are just something I have to get through in order to carry on playing the game. ;)

I'm not currently writing from the PC I play on, so can't give you any specs, but all I'm looking for is some educated guesses from you, as to whether I'll be more or less likely to be able to play FM21 on this old thing, bearing in mind as I said, that it still plays FM19 fine.

What I need to know, is if my machine can't handle any of the 3D views (even Data Analyst), do you think I should still be able to play on the old 2D Classic view? As I say, don't really care what it looks like, just want to play the game, and 2D is absolutely fine for me, until I get the new PC in the summer.

Now I know, you'll say "just try the demo!" -- but here's the thing. Unlike probably most of you, I do not have the luxury of all you can eat broadband. In order to download the demo, I'll need to shell out around £60 for an internet data stick with sufficient gigabytes to get the job done, and as you can imagine, I would be extremely gutted to waste £60 quid downloading a demo I cannot play, knowing I'd still have to pay out for the full version at some point in the summer.

Hence why I'd love to save 25% off right now. :)

I'd like to get a range of your views if possible so as I can garner a decent concensus, so even if someone else has already said what you'd say, I'd still appreciate hearing your opinons all the same.

Remember, all I need to know, is if I could likely play the matches in 2D classic view, fancy graphics don't matter to me.

Many thanks for taking the time to offer some help.

Well, it's more of less impossible to give you an estimate on how (or if) it works if you cannot give specs. I mean, what can any guesses be based on?

If you want to download the demo, could you bring your pc (if it's a laptop) to an internet cafe or something to download it? Just throwing out ideas here.

In my opinion there isnt much of a difference between the specs needed for FM19 and the specs needed for FM21. The loading and saving times are actually faster for FM21. So if you're happy with the game speed and graphics in FM19 then you should also be happy with it for FM21

  • 4 weeks later...

Just wanted to return and say thanks again for your advice. I've been playing for a few weeks now, and can safely say this is easily my favourite version of the game for years. :)

No issues for me at all and in fact, FM21 plays better graphically on my old system than FM19 did. Previously it was unwatchable in anything other than Data Analyst mode, but in 21 I am able to watch matches in Director cam, with only some minimal lag, but it's perfectly acceptable to me.

What's more, I'd say this ME produces probably the most realistic looking football in the series to date.

So if anyone comes across this topic looking for similar answers, then go for it.

Very happy customer. :)
