adhikapp
Di Stefano never played in a Euros - He never even played in any national tournament at all! #Shambles Also for taking Courtois
Haguey
@Scott1892 ^^ The list of players who somehow didn't play in a Euro's is really amazing.

But as the rules state in the opening post (which most of you didn't read carefully) for players before 1980, it's enough that they played for NT in the same year when their team qualified for QF on EURO. So, Di Stefano is allowed. Props to Scott for actually taking the time to research things. Edited May 22, 2021 by GunmaN1905
Haguey
Ha, I looked through those squads and ignored Di Stefano as my Spanish squad pick had already gone Fair play.

He played for Spain at the end of his career. His eligibility is questionable though, since Spain vs USSR was never played in 1960. I was planning to ask once it got to me. Scott1892
Yeah I pmed Gunman before I picked to make sure he was eligible.

Btw, since you're second to last pick, I'm just going to remove Muzza I think. He never posted in this topic a single time since he checked in and we'd just be wasting time. When it gets to you, pick 4 players for each.

Yuko
How is Di Stefano eligible? The rule said that the player had to play in the quarters.

For tournaments before 1980, you can select any player from nations that appeared in quarter-finals since there are no official squad lists. Players that played during those years, obviously. Spain didn't actually appear as they game was forfeited. But as I said, I don't mind the pick.

Otherwise Yugoslavia 1992 becomes eligible as well.

Baptista_8
When Gunman says "Players that played during those years, obviously" does he mean they had to have played in the national team in those years or what?
GunmaN1905
Bloody hell, should've specified that game, knew this was going to happen. They were a quarter-finalist, game wasn't played. On the other hand, Yugoslavia stopped existing as a country by summer of 1992 and they were replaced by Denmark. If someone replaced Spain in 1960, I'd say Spain wasn't eligible. 1 minute ago, Baptista_8 said: When Gunman says "Players that played during those years, obviously" does he mean they had to have played in the national team in those years or what? Yes, since there are no squad lists. Semi-finalist squad are known, but if you want to pick a player from teams that were eliminated in QF for 1960-1976 tournaments, I'll allow anyone who played for NT in that year. Edit: Nvm, there are squad lists. Edited May 22, 2021 by GunmaN1905
Yuko
I mean, I'd applaud the pick if it were within the established rules, but this is just plain wrong I checked through the damn match sheets from the quarter finalists and found a couple of gems, Di Stefano was explicitly out of the rules as I interpreted them and I don't think it's really that open. Spain in 1960 did not appear in the quarters
Sano
By the way, all squads are available (at least the line-ups are) on UEFA.com. Even for the qualifying tournaments. For example for the EURO 1960 games: https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro/history/seasons/1960/matches/ Click on any match to see the line-ups. So that rule is a bit pointless anyway. Those are just 11 starters, but if you guys want to go with this, I'm fine. Just now, bestbrother said: Are we sticking to a formation? Like everyone is 4-4-2? You can pick anything you want. But playing mutliple players out of position or using some 2-3-5 formation should be penalized during voting phase.
adhikapp
I mean fair play for the Di Stefano pick, props to Scott for that. But the QF wasn't technically even played? You could skew the rules a bit though

I had Di Stefano in mind since the start but since he was not part of a side that appeared in the quarters, I just didn't even consider that he'd be eligible. You knew what I meant. If I said 1960 QF had only 7 teams, then I could get behind your point. I'm sure you've got plenty of other great picks in mind.
