Exploiting space behind fullbacks

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Just after some ideas on how to exploit the space behind extremely attacking fullbacks e.g Liverpool, PSG etc. I play a 4-2-3-1 with Focus Play down the right with an FB -A and an AP-S which works great normally but when I see all the space left by TAA or Robertson for example I will focus play down both flanks.

I dont seem to be able to get the ball in to those spaces quickly enough or often enough to take advantage of it. Any help would be appreciated.

Because team instruction is shorter passes logical test would be try increasing DLP Player instructions passes more direct. Also I don't know what's player Rice's preferred foot and I feel having left footed CMR could encourage to switch side to AML. Also you could try switching DLP Def to support role, but then again you need to be cautious with opponent counters with other role.

Your roles and instructions are not going to help you in exploiting the space like that. Especially the instructions to play short passing game and to play out of defense.

The two playmakers further slow down your build-up.

The problem is that instructions (as well as any other element of a tactic) do not work in isolation, but only through interaction with other tactical elements. Instructions serve only to encourage certain behaviors, but can be effective only if the tactic as a whole is designed in such a way as to lead to that behavior. The most important segment of any tactic is the setup of roles and duties. It needs to be well-balanced and logical in order for the tactic to work properly. Without that, no instructions are going to help.

Therefore, you first need to sort out the roles and duties in direct relation to how you want to play.
