sifinnigan1
A defensive deep lying play maker appears to work well with an attacking wingback; with the midfielder naturally covering the space left behind by the defender. Box to box seems to be good with a winger because they tend to keep in line with one anotherwhen progressing up the field, especially for a direct style of play. Mezzalas dovetail with inside forward's nicely when they move into the half-spaces from their starting positions. Are there any other combinations of midfield/wing roles that anybody could reccomend and what style of play they'd be best used for?
Irn Rvd
IW(s) Mez (a) IWB (s) This combo works really well on a fast paced possession based system as the IW and Mezzela interchange positions with the iwb showing for possession circulation. You can often play a right footed DLP on the left IWB position, as he will be great at switching play to the other flank.
sifinnigan1
I'll have to try that out, sounds like a really fluid combination
Irn Rvd
IW(s) sometimes needs a stay wider PI's but could work fine without if you have a wide system.
Herolover
Excuse my ignorance, but why would you give an IW the PI of stay wide? If you want them to stay wide, make them a winger and just have them cross less.

It may come in handy, particularly playing against opposition that defend deep and very narrow.
