2028-29 Mid-Season Review

Domestic Results

Got to be happy with this, just the one loss and that was away to Marseille. We actually played well vs PSG and perhaps could have won it, but I will never grumble about a point against them. The cup fell in December this year and we thumped recently relegated Angers 5-0, fingers crossed for a good draw!

Ligue 1 Table

PSG have dropped a few points under their new manager and they're within touching distance. We need a slightly better 2nd half of the season to get the 90 points I'm after. Strasbourg have fallen from grace!

A really disappointing end to the CL after a good opening 4 games, but we're still in Europe via the Europa League and it would be nice to go far in it. Zenit will be a tricky first knockout tie.

Vega has been the star again, If only we could keep him fit all season!

Breakthrough Keeper

Leger, who had a great half-season loan at Montpellier last season keeping them up in the process, has made the most of a lengthy Racioppi injury and secured his status as our number 1.

Rivalries

That rivalry isn't just in our heads now, it's real and it's reciprocated!

Racioppi wanted a new challenge and was upset when we rejected Al-Ain's first bid as it would 'benefit his family financially'. Skipper, it's been a pleasure, but it's time to move on.

2029 Youth Intake

f1665de7d22488b1f8279b1290c24b61.png

Our new HOYD has extremely high standards because I think a few of these players are decent

Another good young keeper - definitely the mould for a sweeper keeper too.

f72fdeea98fcfb8fec2020964d0c27d2.png

A few areas he desperately needs to work on - his movement is terrible and he's pretty lazy, selfish and wimpy - but he's quick, can dribble and can finish.

We've well and truly messed up any chance of a title challenge with a 4-3-2 record so far in 2029. We got passed Zenit, but we were smashed by Arsenal at home and settled for being knocked out by playing our 2nd string in the 2nd leg to keep our first XI fresh for the PSG semi-final. Our whole season depends on the cup; if we don't win it it'll be a write off.

Ligue 1 Table

So far off the pace and Marseille just a couple of slip ups away from moving ahead of us. FFS.

A real lacklustre performance in Paris made it mathematically impossible to catch them and we had to watch them lift the trophy.

Out of the blue Lyon made it to the CL semis, narrowly missing out in the 121st minute

So the new chairman wants to build a new stadium, good news! The rival consortium were the ones that wanted rid of Balmont, losers.

We suffered a hangover from the cup semi by losing to Lille but went on a fantastic run after that right up until the PSG game. I hope we can take that run of form into the new season.

Ligue 1 Table

83 points is our worst tally with exception to the time we finished 6th, which is a disappointment. But we still finished 2nd, so it's same old, same old, really.

Player Stats

Our entire starting eleven consists of homegrown at the club players and as of next season the only non-HG at club player still with us will be Jonathan Panzo. With Vega missing a bulk of the season through many niggling injuries Bouyer stepped up with the goals. Here's our starters:

Starting XI

GK - Leger

DR - Benali

DC - Azong

DC - Vuillemin

DL - F. Simon

DM - Simonin

DM - Mveumba

MR - Nicolas

ML - Bouyer

CF - Benamara

AF - Vega

Very impressive squad, that! Looks good for the future.

Out of curiosity, would you be able to share a screenshot of your income tab? I'm going into my third season in the Ligue 1 with Orléans, having secured European football, but my wage budget is still **** and most of my main sources of income (ticketing, season tickets, sponsorship) as well. Sponsorship is only 4M, think that's about a third of the second lowest team.

Yeah I think we can only get better and hopefully a few top prospects in new intakes will break through.

Of course! I don't think our income started that high from sponsorship etc but getting CL football made a big difference with TV and Prize money.

Cheers, interesting to see (and a long way to go for me in comparison)!

Dijon are a small club in comparison to a lot of others in Ligue 1, but I think Orleans are much smaller and it'll definitely take a while to build. Just makes the end-game even more satisfying :brock:

Ajaccio have had a very interesting in-game experience. Promoted to the top flight in season 1, they then suffered three straight relegations. Then in just 5 seasons they're back in the top flight again!

We seem to have been 'stuck' at a level just below them, hopefully we can break it and become proper challengers soon!

This year we didn't retain the Trophee des champions after a penalty loss against PSG in an exciting match. Let's hope it's not our only chance of silverware this season!

2029-30 Mid-Season Review

Ligue 1 Results

5729115621bcdd41b72eec4afc63e141.png

Not a bad set of results and we finished the calendar year really well but it's not the kind of form to keep pace with PSG especially if we drop all three points against them. Out of all the results I am most annoyed with the 2-2 home draw against Amiens because we've been battering most teams at home!

Ligue 1 Table

a5ee773d45d98d2c5b92c865c7ce3cf1.png

We're not even in 2nd place thanks to a great resurrection of Lyon from young manager Etienne Capoue. First he took Toulouse back to Ligue 1, then he took Lyon to 3rd and 4th place finishes after 12th and 13th the previous seasons - as well as a CL semi! As much as it is negatively affecting us, it is good to see another team fighting for contention. Capoue's Lyon became the first team to beat PSG in Paris since we got the double over them several seasons ago.

832ac52c27b5f274d616c3880f73f643.png

Although we were knocked out in the group stage, I think we did pretty well. A win against Liverpool and a draw in Rome accompanying two smashes of RB Salzburg. It would be nice to get further in the Europa League this season; we've got to the CL Quarters once but never past the EL 2nd knockout stage!

Player Stats

213668228f5de7c28504c92a6a9aeeea.png

Bouyer has split his time between left wing and up front (Vega picking up niggly injuries yet again!) and he's been superb in both roles.

Breakthrough Keeper

e5397ea8f917a99f3e1ccb95d56579e5.png

For the second season in a row our 2nd choice keeper has benefitted from a pre-season injury to the first choice. Last year benefactor, Leger, has lost his place to Robin who spent the last three seasons on loan at Ajaccio helping to take them from the 3rd tier back to the top flight.

Ermmmm, this is the Europa League, not the Champions League!! We've got a chance against Gladbach, but there are so many big clubs in this so it's unlikely to gain us any silverware...

Into the quarters but it's going to be incredibly tough from here on. If we manage to beat Bayern, we get the winners of Inter vs Man City. For reference, Hertha are last seasons Champions League winners too!

When things aren't going as you'd hoped and you don't want to sack yourself.....sorry Zeljko but you're past it. Here's the new guy:

b6736077452b97451cdc5f3ae10d72c5.png

He's top drawer! He became Rafa Benitez' no 2. at Porto and followed him to Real Madrid. When Rafa retired, his replacement Flick got rid of him and he's been unemployed since. I love that his favoured formation is exactly what we use, as well as preferring gegenpress / passing football. To top it off he's a model citizen!

Getting there....I expect RB Leipzig to be tough if Nagelsman is still the manager.....Good Luck!

Cheers, it'll definitely be tough although Nagelsmann was sacked 4 seasons ago and was replaced by India manager Igor Stimac.

Great news that the rivalry with QSI is now being recognised in game.

You seem to have taken a slight backwards step on the pitch though. Is this just you waiting for the youngsters to develop and the ability of Roger not being what it once was?

Yeah we definitely have taken a step back in the league. I think the biggest factor is that now we've got a much higher rep than at the start teams are sitting much deeper vs us and the space to play in behind just isn't there. This tactic is built for a middle club / underdog which we aren't anymore and clubs are nicking draws off us and the odd defeat, but I have no plan B....

Roger Assale is well and truly past it, struggling back in Cote D'Ivoire

Road to the Europa League 2030

Let's get this mess out the way first. What a s***show. March and April were half decent, but by that point PSG had won the league and Lyon had all but secured 2nd. Everyone lost interest in the league, myself included. Several second string / rotated sides were sent out and we couldn't muster a single win in the last four games from a run which should have secured 12 points. Can't just blame the 2nd string, the best side we could put out played Brest and couldn't hit a barn door. The loss vs Ajaccio was the icing on the s***cake, albeit not a single player expecting to start the cup final was involved in the game. Dijon, draw specialists 2029/30.

Europa League

94834a050d40ffc629b19f9fdc597767.png

More like it! We smashed Brugge at home and complacency set in away which proved to be our only loss on the road to the final. Very solid back-to-back 2-0s against a decent Gladbach side set up a Quarter final against Bayern. They have have been struggling in the Bundesliga of late having not won the title for 5 or 6 seasons but it was always going to be tough. I was delighted with the 3 away goals which meant Bayern had to come at us in Dijon. We picked them off in a beautifully attacking game. The semi saw Balmont reacquainted with old foe Pocchettino. A carbon copy of the Bayern away game led to a similar home situation but this time we were even better with our chances and smashed 5 past them. Immediately after the game Poch was sacked by city, unluckeeeee.

86c8af8862f13d7469675542cf7e3cc4.png

The biggest game in the club's history is just around the corner and we're putting all the prep in possible. A loss, and this season has been a travesty, win and all is redeemed and we've got our hands on the clubs first ever proper silverware.

It's time! We're going into the game as slight underdogs which I think suits us. We also go into it without any players missing as our star centre back Vuillemin returns from a short injury which kept him out the semi second leg.

17de5aa4d2e1bf638c90d6217e0af875.png

Roger knows his stuff about strikers, and he's highlighted man mountain Tiago Gomes as the one to watch. We haven't got a chance of beating him in the air, so we've just got to hope that his delivery is poor. According to their club profile decisive midfielder Hentschel  is their key player; he's not very brave so hopefully a couple of smashings from our midfield will unsettle him.

Can we do it? Come on Dijon let's write our name on the trophy among the previous winners:
