Greater Tactical Flexibility

Some player instructions are fixed for certain positions, we should be able to completely change the player instructions to what we want, just like the 'Central Midfielder' player role which has no player instructions set and we can choose the ones we want.

This should allow us to have things like a centre back that joins attacks in a 2-person CB pairing (currently we can only have a Libero in a 2 3-person central defence).

Football is becoming more and more flexible with very specialised roles, rather than the rigid, limited number of roles that used to exist. This should be reflected in the game to truly let us have our own play style, and be innovative. For example we should have been able to create inverted wing backs in the game before they got popularised and SI decided to add them as a role. And we should be able to do this via player instructions.

In one of the FM podcast episodes CJ Ramson mentioned how they restricted the Mezzala role to only the CM position so that players wouldnt use it in positions where it is less useful, but I would argue this is restricting the managers flexibility. In real life managers dont have these restrictions. To counter the issues this would make with users making bad tactics, this the game should give more guidance on the best positions to use roles and player instructions.

We appreciate you taking the tine to post here, this has already been flagged as a request within the community, so has already been documented and is part of our internal database of features for consideration. Like all features raised to us, it could end up rejected, or could after extensive design and development become a part of a future FM.
