Opponent always scoring with first shot!!

Hello fellow Football Managers,

 

I've been playing football managers since 2013 version and something has definitely caught my eye. Have any of you noticed that your opponent scores on their first shot of the game well beyond normal averages if they score a goal in the game. It seems to me that it happens well beyond 50% of the time, even more like 70% of the time with their very first shot. It almost seems like build in feature of the game that you start with 1 goal down...

Can't explain it, but it happens way too often. Even with opponents way below your own team in quality. And this has been the case with previous years not just 2022 version??! Weird thing!? You of course have to pepper opponent goalie with countless of shots before getting a goal. Is it just that opponent just has better players that you do?? Can't tell. Please share your experience.

You mean, like my last game? Happens all the time to me, I just have to score more than them which I am, my keeper is actually just a statue in most games.

No- My opponents do not score with their first shot in every game.

I find that the opposition keeper nearly always plays well in my games, often i'll watch in amazement as i see him pull off save after save, yet the opposite happens to my keeper, i've rarely seen my keeper keep me in it and i luck my way to victory. It's almost like if a team sets up defensively that makes their keeper play better which it shouldn't.

Are you intentionally reading my post wrong or what. Where did I say there always score on first shot. I said if they score they score very often with first shot. No where did I say they they always score at all, just that if they score its usually is the very first shot! Big difference!

Usually I can come back from behind just fine, but the odds of opponent to be so efficient with first shots is incredible. 

And just for the record I like Football Managers, I have thousands of hours of game time in them. That doesn't mean I can't wonder some of the things happening in them.

Tbf, the title of your post is literally "always scoring with first shot". 

What's your conversion rate like? It's good to look at these things over a span of matches.

That's my main scouting tactic for FM. When I'm looking for the best GK in the game, I just look at my next fixture.

Not usually. In fact it's usually the reverse, with my own teams scoring early in the game, unless against some serious opposition. Perhaps your team suffers from complacency, and the opposition scoring shakes them out of it a bit?

I've only had that happen once so far in my save, 3 seasons in so far so it's not that bad I guess.

So you read only my title, good to know. It's not like I wrote in more detail in my post where I clarified what I meant with my title. Hope you don't just read the title on books too. Might miss something. And to be fair if I wrote a novel for title nobody would have read it.

It is what it is. Played two games after my last post. On the first game got scored on first shot, but I guess that is just the rng. Tough luck I guess, won that game 3-1. 

To clarify I do quite well in my games usually its just that first shot seems to be magic a lot of the times then it is just normal rng. You lose some you win some.

Just to clarify:  I did read your post but if you choose to sensationalise or overstate your point in the thread title, then you run the risk of not getting the kind of replies that you would like.  The thread title is what draws users in to reply and if it is clearly and deliberately wrong, then you may get negative responses.

It might be a highlight issue, if you are playing on key then you might not see the other shots they have that they miss. It might even happen on extended and is a problem that needs to be reported so that highlights can be better presented back to players.

Unless of course it literally IS their first shot of the game statistically, then it would be good to give the team some evidence and show that it happens, let's say 6/7 out of 10 games for example. Just something to show what's the weirdness you are finding.

I use extended highlights. I can tell that its the first shot because we have that statistics box (goals, shots etc.) left top corner of the screen where it tells what the stats are at any given moment when highlights are not playing. I follow those stats through out game just to know how my team is doing and that is why I noticed this thing(and of course because it happens in the early stage of the game). It updates the stats after every highlight moment.

Guess I shouldn't look at those and chalk it up as just bad luck. Won't be buying any lottery tickets that is for sure.

Nope I dont notice this. Your team might  not be starting matches with good morale/body language if this happens a lot with you.

I think the balance between the ai & user needs to be majorly tweaked. Too many times has my gk gone crossed eyed and let in howlers. Or last min ai corners have gone in.

There's no 'balance' there - the ME cannot distinguish between human and AI. It simply (not really - 2-3 million lines of code) calculates a match between 2 teams.

I can’t believe that to be true when an ai team gets a corner last min they will score. You can feel the goals coming. The match engine for sure needs rebalancing imo

AI plays in the same ME as human manager. IF which does not cut inside with the ball is an issue for AI manager as well. I have seen AI having higher than 4 xG and score zero, same for me. I have scored 5 goals with 1 xG, same for AI. If you don't believe that sometimes AI is smarter than you & me; you think wrong. If you are doing better from AI, then you are doing something better from AI.

It's a fact though. For fun, I just counted - 32 matches and I have conceded 5 goals in the last 10 minutes of a match. That's looking at ANY goals, not just corners. That's not the topic of the thread though (last minute goals) so let's not veer off topic.

This is happening too often. Both in my favor and for the AI
