Being able to specify which position players available for U23 / U18 squad must play in U23 / U18 matches

Thanks for a great game SI.

I only manage first team matches as I don't have time to manage U23 / U18 matches. Quite often I will promote younger players with great potential into my first team squad page so I can add them to tutor groups but I make them available for the whole season to either the U23 or U18 squad as they are not yet ready for first team matches. Quite often I will find that many of those players are playing in bizarre positions on the pitch which bear no relation to the positions they are strongest in - even if the player is much stronger than the player playing in his position. I've found central holding midfielders playing on the left wing or strikers playing at centre back to name a few. At least temporarily this starts familiarising players with a position I don't want them to play in and can cost CA points. When I make players in my first team squad available (so players that I am managing) to either U23 or U18 teams it would be really handy if I were able to specify which position they have to be played in otherwise it defeats the purpose of player development. We are already able to do this to a degree when loaning players but it would be great to also be able to do this with players we are developing while keeping them at our club.

100% agree with this. I genuinely thought this must be in the game already and I haven’t found it but I’ve searched in the game, and online, and it doesn’t seem to exist.

Really feel this is a great idea - and you’d hope pretty realistic too

Thank you for your suggestion.  It is an idea that has come up before and has been passed on to the design team however it may yet be rejected or with further development make it into a future iteration of FM. :)
