Been really enjoying this! It seems could be the pinnacle for the career so far so I hope the stint works out well for you, if not then I fear you may spend a couple of seasons unemployed with your rules.

I revisited this comment, looks like this has come true as my stint as Spain manager did not quite go the way I thought it would. On paper a 60% win rate is decent, but missing out on the World Cup was a disaster.

2 years without being employed on my save. I am at the point where I am hoping a big country flops hard at the 2040 European Championship and I get parachuted in the job, even though it is a rebuild. I did not think it will come to this. Or maybe what I will do is, if the Spain job comes again and they offer me the job again on slightly lower wages I will take it. Or I hope that some club that offers me 58k pounds or more gives me a job offer and I accept it.

It is that time of the year again, July 1st 2040. The managerial rich list is out. On top of the list is Antonio Conte at Inter who is earning 300k pounds per week. Second on the list is Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool who is earning 160k pounds per week. Third on the list is Julian Nagelsmann at Atletico Madrid who is earning 160k pounds per week. Under Conte last season, Inter came 3rd in Serie A, got knocked out in the Italian Cup first round against SPAL, got knocked out in the Super Cup final against Juventus, and got knocked out in the Champions League first knockout round against Benfica. Under Rodgers last season, Liverpool won the Premier League, lost the Community Shield against Manchester United, lost in the Carabao Cup fourth round against Chelsea, lost in the FA Cup fifth round against Manchester United, and got knocked out in the Champions League quarter final against Atletico Madrid. Under Nagelsmann last season, Atletico Madrid finished 2nd in La Liga, lost the Super Cup final to Real Sociedad, got knocked out in the Spanish Cup fourth round against Valladolid, got knocked out in the Champions League semi final against Hertha Berlin.

England won Euro 2040 and Argentina won the 2040 Copa America. We are nearly going to go 3 years without a job, looks like I need to resurrect a family member from the dead and provide some magical inheritance. But I have enough earnings to survive so far. That Spain job was really a poisoned chalice.

Father time has hit me on the mercenary save, and being out of management for 3 years has been quite a different experience. I have total career earnings of 9 million pounds. In these 3 years I got to spend quality time with my family and my partner is helping in bringing money off her job and I am basically a stay at home dad, there were so many managerial interviews on Zoom, some even from big clubs. But the Spain job has been a poisoned chalice and the failure there basically became a glaring weak point on my CV as I am struggling to get employed, I am not saying that we did not get offers, the most notable ones being a couple of clubs in the MLS and Boca Juniors in Argentina. And some good international jobs like Wales, but the wages on offer have not been matched. I have travelled around the world too, I have been to Johannesburg, New York, Los Angeles, Bali, Copenhagen, New Delhi, and many other places around the world for short trips that I could take. It was a nice experience doing all those things.

Let's talk about things apart from the job search. It has been 3 years and many interesting things have happened. Did you know Ajax got relegated last season from the Eredivisie on my save? That was a shocking moment where such a historically big club went down. Moving on, I am hoping through some miracle I get a good job.

Hey Sahajpal, can't you - for example - lower your wage demands over time? Say for each month unemployed, you'd accept jobs offering xyz% less wage than the reference?

Hi, I will take some version of your advice, albeit in my own way. Now that I have been unemployed for nearly 3 and a half years on my save, I will take a job with the highest possible wage, provided that the pay cut is 50% or below it or I will take jobs where the wages on offer are higher than the wage I have earned at the previous club. An interesting job has come up so if I get it, and that situation applies, maybe I will take the job.

Hi, sounds great! I am crossing my fingers for you to find a new job. Hopefully an interesting club job will come up and bring you back on the road to success👍

Well we have received more job offers, Valerenga is very tempting because of the transfer budget but I am not accepting it because of the wages. So yes, I am stuck. I'm basically doing a David O'Leary or Kevin Keegan here where I am waiting for the correct opportunity.

It is that time of the year again. It is July 1st 2041. The managerial rich list is as follows, and there are some changes. Antonio Conte has retired as Internazionale manager. So on top of the list is Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool earning 160k pounds per week. Second on the list is Julian Nagelsmann at Atletico Madrid earning 155k pounds per week and third on the list is Maximilian Appelrath at Tottenham earning 155k pounds per week. Under Rodgers last season, Liverpool finished 2nd in the Premier League, won the Community Shield against Manchester United, won the Carabao Cup final against Manchester United, got knocked out in the FA Cup quarter final against Tottenham, got knocked out in the Champions League quarter final against Manchester United and qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup. Under Nagelsmann last season, Atletico Madrid finished 2nd in La Liga, got knocked out by Villarreal in the Spanish Cup semi final, won the Spanish Super Cup against Real Betis and got knocked out by Liverpool in the Champions League first knockout round and qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup. Under Appelrath last season, Tottenham finished 6th in the Premier League, got knocked out in the Carabao Cup quarter final against Everton, got knocked out by Bayern Munich in the Champions League first knockout round and lost the FA Cup final against Chelsea, also they qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup.

Some jobs have become available, but I am not taking them because of the wages on offer. Italy won the 2041 Nations League and also in an interesting twist the Spain job has become available again after Pablo Machin retired, so it remains to be seen whether we can get it again.

The Spain job came and went, unfortunately they decided against hiring me again and hired Mikel Arteta instead, it has left us in the lurch and we are still unemployed. The Spain job and the wages associated with it were a bit of a trap in the save, but I am planning to take a version of @Mr Jabay's suggestion. So what the condition is, it is if I have been unemployed for over three years on the save, I can accept jobs which require me to take a pay cut provided that it is 50% or less. But this only applies after three years of unemployment. I am experimenting with this concept and seeing what will come of it, fingers crossed we get a job that pays 58k pounds or above.

Haha, that is true. So, come on now, you rich nations, offer this guy a befitting wage!!!

Yes, yes and I am good enough too. I have reached a point where I am hoping that a Premier League club or a top club in Europe offer me a job, I am getting interviews but not job offers from these big clubs.

I know I am good enough to coach a good team. Some of the wages on offer have been really bad, I am stuck in the reputation trap, I have enough of a reputation where I can get the smaller jobs and also get interviewed by bigger clubs, but I am not getting the bigger jobs. I have a two and a half star reputation. It has been 4 years since I have been unemployed on my save and I hope that I get something good.

Fulham see me as a leading candidate to take over as manager and surprisingly Brighton sacked their manager despite being in a decent position in the table, so I am hoping that I land a Premier League job or a job at any of the top leagues which offer me enough money.

IMPORTANT SAVE ANNOUNCEMENT

So here is a decision I have come to. On the save I have been unemployed for nearly 5 years now. The last time we were employed by a team was 16th November 2037. So if I don't have a job that comes with the wages I want, I will take the job which pays the highest wages in that moment after 16th November 2042.

So these are the rules when I am unemployed.

Being unemployed for 0-3 years: Look for jobs that offer the same wages and/or higher.

Being unemployed for 3-4 years: 50% wage drop, and negotiating a higher wage with the team and accepting it if they offer a job.

Being unemployed for 4-5 years: Taking the job immediately which is the highest paid job in that moment.

It is that time of the year again and this is what the managerial rich list looks like, Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool is on the top of the rich list earning 160k pounds, second on the list is a new name, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United is also earning the same wage and is second on the list and third on the list is Julian Nagelsmann at Atletico Madrid also earning the same wage. Under Rodgers last season Liverpool finished second in the Premier League, got knocked out in the Carabao Cup third round against Northampton, lost the FA Cup final against Manchester United and lost the Champions League final against Manchester United. Under Ole last season, Manchester United won the quadruple, winning the Premier League, Champions League, Carabao Cup and the FA Cup. They also won the Community Shield and the European Super Cup. But they got knocked out in the Club World Cup quarter final against Colon. Under Nagelsmann last season, Atletico Madrid finished 3rd in La Liga, got knocked out in the first knockout round of the Champions League against Benfica, and won the Spanish Cup final against Real Madrid, however they lost that Spanish Super Cup final to Barcelona.

So after nearly 5 years unemployed, I now have a new job. It is now 2042 on my save. Since the unemployment period was going up to 5 years, I decided to take the job that offers me the maximum wage so I have decided to take over at OES in the Brazilian National First Division, a very decent level of football, and my wages are 5,000 pounds per week. We are 18th in the league, in the relegation zone. It is a steep drop from the Spain job but I decided to take the OES job as I was approaching 5 years of unemployment. Being the mercenary I am, I realized that I was now running out of cash and I need to put food and water on the table. Anyway here is the squad and this is what it looks like.

Not a great start to our managerial stint at OES, 3 losses in a row, we're struggling. And for me, I am back closer to the bottom of the mercenary ladder than the top. It is like getting fired by a multinational company and working for a tenth of your wages at an ambitious startup where no one knows what exactly the other person is doing.
