Player who is natural in two positions...which better?

I have a few players who are natural at  two or more positions. I'll play them in the different positions but not very accurate as the opposition can change in quality. Would looking at the essential  and then the recommended attributes for each specific position  to see which position has higher values be a good indicator which position  they are most likely to be best at? Or is there an easier way?

I would have thought that if the game rates them as natural in both positions, there would be little to choose between the abilities in both positions.  Rather than overthinking the comparison in figures, maybe it would be best just to watch how they perform on the pitch and gauge their effectiveness that way?
