Make training have higher influence in matches

For example, if you train play through the wings, players could use the flanks more often, increasing the chance for them to take decisions in that direction. If you train possession, they could try to pass it shorter and take less risks. You get the idea.

Isnt acheiving these things done with  Team instructions and player roles, plus traits?

You can set up your team to do these things, then train in them too to increase the effectivness and capablility of your players to execute them.

Currently, we must use instructions and traits to achieve that, but in real life football, training is also essential for players to perform well in the field, following the tactic properly. FM tries to simulate that with tactical familiarity and next match bonuses, but that isn't sufficient in my opinion. I believe the training schedules should become an important feature of the game and contribute directly to the behavior of players during matches.
