Challenge For League Promise Requirements

So when signing 2 players I promised that we'd challenge for the Premier League title by 2031 and we finished second, but as soon as Man City won it with 36 games played (we'd played 35 and had 2nd wrapped up) they both started moaning that I'd failed to deliver, so I'm wondering just how close you have to come to fulfill that promise?

Challenge for the league should mean that you were in the mix in to top 3/4 till the end of the season, which you were.  Another example perhaps of where that module does still need some work.

Thanks, that was my thinking too but perhaps in FM world it means in contention until the final game or something?
