Rebuilding an empire - Mongolian Dream

Disclaimer

Just a quick disclaimer before the preface, I am currently in 2039 on this save, so there will be limited screenshots of players/match details until the thread has caught up with the game.

Preface

I have always been interested in build a nation type saves, and I have tried them before in Europe, so I thought that I would challenge myself in Asia. I chose Mongolia after watching the grand tour episode that was filmed over there and just found the country fascinating, along with the fact that only 1 Mongolian player has ever played professionally outside of the country. I am using a 3 tier database, starting in the bottom division, my manager has no qualifications, no previous playing experience, so is as good as the players in the league.

The club

Mongolian Dream (Mongoliin Temuulel in Mongolian) is a team based in Ulaanbaatar (As are most teams in Mongolia) and play at the MFF Stadium. All facilities are at the lowest level possible and finances are at £0, but as the club is amateur, we are in no immediate threat of debt.

image.png.28ebd8b832655fc5cb03ef35714a5607.png

Mongolia in Asia

As mentioned this will be a build a nation save, in the nation coefficients, Mongolia start in 41st position out of 47, with 6 of those nations not having any teams in continental competition, so effectively we will be starting in 41st from 42 nations. The top division gives 1 preliminary qualifying place into the AFC Cup, the Europa League equivalent, with no spots in the Champions League. There is no continental spot available through the Mongolian Cup.

Game Setup

I have included all available Asian leagues, over the course of the save I might add some other leagues as view only, but we are nowhere near that yet. Currently running on around 200,000 players there or thereabouts.

1974717754_jEZ8m9t-Imgur.thumb.png.167c249557ef7b7fab4365f56a43a111.png

I will probably give season reviews as there are only 18 games in the league across all 3 divisions, season 1 hopefully out tonight.

2020 Season

Expectations

As this is a custom database with every team near enough identical, I dont see the 3rd tier being a big challenge, I will be disappointed if we get anything other than 1st place. In terms of the Mongolian Cup, I think we can give a good account of ourselves and as long as we dont draw any big clubs get to the 3rd round or the QF.

Tactics

Ladies and Gentlemen, Mongolian Dream will be playing 4-4-F'ing 2. A pretty basic one designed to exploit short defenders and have a high press to account for the fact nobody in the league has a good first touch/composure.

image.png.588a8ba87e315aab5bdedb12f55ca86e.png

Transfers

We need to build a solid squad. I didn't think any of the pre-loaded players would get a sniff at the changing room, so made a lot of signings.

League results/table

What a season! I know it is not the hardest to get promoted in these sort of databases, but we looked dominant all season, never looking like we were going to drop points. The combination of Delger and Zoljargal up front looked unstoppable, scoring a combined 60 goals. Saying that, we didn't concede the least goals in the season, that went to Unaganuud, who conceded 16, and 8 were against us.

image.thumb.png.a9c758c301380e49ebad1f8c9a4e63e3.png

Cup results

A big shock here, luckily we were not matched against any big big teams in the opening rounds, in the QF we played Anduud City, a mid table premiership side, taking it through to ET. In the SF, we managed to get past a SP Falcons team who were relegated from the premier league. The biggest test was Deren in the final, who finished 3rd in the premiership, but 2 goals from Zoljargal gave us our first surprise Mongolian cup win!

image.png.f3c3ea59b202cda152eb014843018238.png

Team of the Season

Nothing to shout home about in the defensive side of the pitch, but both wingers and our striker combination were unplayable.

Debrief

After a season of only ups, I expect us to be able to breeze through the second division without much problem. We might need some reinforcements at the back, and maybe a new central midfield pairing, as they were not as dominant as our wide players. The board has also turned us semi pro, so we will be able to bring in some extra talent from the premiership clubs.

2021 Season

Expectations

As we managed to get through last season with a 100% winning record, I would expect that the 2nd teir will not be very challenging, considering our options up front and our plan to upgrade the defence, at the back end of last season. A cup run will also be nice, but our first appearance in the Super Cup, where we play Ulaanbaatar City will be a tough ask to get anything from.

Transfers

Starting with our transfers in, some bench players and some emergency reserves come in. Notable transfers are Yeroolt coming in as back up goalkeeper, after Ariunbold came in at the back end of last season as the new no.1. Harry Brey and Miyazaki come in from the USA and Japan respectively to bolster our ranks at DC, also a 48 year old Ian Goodison, Tranmere legend comes in on a free. Sodnomragchaa comes in to be our starting MC, and Hiruma joins to back up Delger and Zoljargal.

1548703453_TransfersIn2.PNG.6de29be1dedf4e4829597f21276982e7.PNG

Another clean out at the start of the season in March, most players leaving for either 3rd division football or dropping into the amateur league. In the July window though, disaster struck, as premier league clubs were sniffing around our starting DC Saikhanbileg and Miyazaki also leaving to go home to Japan.

Super Cup

Having to play the best team currently in this save was always going to be a tough ask for a team with a makeshift defence, but we did well and took the game all the way through to penalties. Unfortunately, all our first 3 spot kicks were missed in yet another shootout loss for me personally, one day hopefully I will win one.

image.png.f24e8870794d59e4e9928a8df65f6dbe.png

League Results/Table

A great start to the season made it look like we could carry on our winning streak before a 0-0 with Mazaalay stopped us in our tracks, 4 wins later, we tasted defeat for the first time, a 5-2 thumping against Unaganuud, bitterly disappointing. Going into the last month without our 2 starting DCs, we were lucky to win the league, losing 3 out of the last 5 games, but fortunately, Western had an even worse second half of the season and we managed to secure our second league title in as many years.

Mongolian Cup Results

After an easy few wins against non-league opposition, we played Tov, who were flying high in the premier league in the QF, a goal from Hiruma secured the win and a SF trip to BCH Lions, were we stumbled and fell in extra time, they went on to beat Ulaanbaatar City in the final.

Debrief

Not as dominant as last season, but given the fact we were new to the division, had the lowest reputation and lowest sponsorship, our attack play was still the best in the league. Our defence was an issue after our starting DCs both left, so that will have to be addressed next season, where we are playing some big names from Mongolia.

2022 Season

Expectations

Going into our first season as a premier league side looks daunting, despite the fact we have beaten sides in the past, we have also lost to top teams, so going into the season, I hope that we can finish in the top 3 and have a solid base to build on in the 2023 season. The cup this season is not a priority as there is no qualification into Asia that way, so we will be playing a heavily rotated team, especially if it is sandwiched closely with some league games.

Transfers

Starting with transfers in, we have raided some premier league clubs for benchwarmers as our reputation is still the lowest in the league, Enkhtaivan comes in as a BWM, both Sasaki's come from Ulaanbaatar to compete for DC, Myagmarsuren will be an important cog in the machine at MR. Still think there may be an issue in defence, but nobody was willing to come in for the amount that I was willing to pay, hopefully nobody important will be getting sniffed around come transfer windows

2097061372_TransfersIn2.PNG.c4ba8bba2d2ca6c2da9c84b9293d7433.PNG

Outgoings now, nobody of note to mention leaving in the early window, but halfway through the season, Gepro offered Delger a weekly wage, despite dropping down a division, something we couldn't compete with. Also, we released some players who were never going to make the grade.

League Results/Table

Not too sure why Delger wanted to leave given the season up to that point. We even picked up after he left and finished the second half of the season unbeaten!

Back to back promotions and a premiership win now sit in the trophy room alongside a Mongolian cup! It was really close up until the last 2 months, where we pulled away from the hunting group to secure a memorable maiden premier league title. Next season we also qualify for the pre. qualifier for the AFC Cup, Asia's answer to the Europa League.

220557210_LeagueTable.thumb.PNG.3c90324e546f60870a13674466ed80b8.PNG

Mongolian Cup

As mentioned, we were not bothered about the cup this year, but still, a 3-1 loss to 1st division strugglers Khan-Uul was a kick in the teeth.

1325400526_CupResults.PNG.ab535df053dcd956ce230dd256224dff.PNG

Youth intake

Dont have screenshots of the youth intake preview, but have made a note of some players to look out for until we catch up with the save. 2022 was the first season with anyone of note, O.Monkh-Erdene Y22 coming through as a 5'7 DC, I'll train him to become a BWM and only use at DC in emergencies.

Debrief

A great start to life in the premier league! Also as mentioned before, our Asian adventure kicks off in Feb, so hopefully we can get some good money for participating although I doubt we will get very far, although gate receipts are split 50/50. Our defence held up really well, only conceding 18 in 18 and the goals were evenly distributed this season.

2023 Season

Expectations

No real scare of second season syndrome going into the season given how dominant we were last season, so another league title would be nice. Also I think we should be able to win the cup/supercup for our first treble of the save. Going into Asia, I think we should be able to get through the first stage of the preliminary qualifying, but East Asia is such a tough region, with teams such as Australia, Japan, South Korea and North Korea being in the region in the game. I will also attach a link here to the way the co-efficient work in Asia, as it favours teams heavily in the Champions League, making our job that bit harder.

Transfers

Starting with the new faces, we have completely transformed the backline, Ösökhbayar in at DR, Surenkhorloo and Tömör-Ochir at DC, and Mönkh-Orgil comes in at DL, all 4 of these guys will be nailed on starters. Narmandakh comes in as a 2nd choice BWM, Ganzorig also comes in to replace Chinzorig when he retires at the end of the season, so I will give them equal playing time as both have a lot of ability. Up front we bring in Dulamjav to replace Delger, as Ankhbayar, despite being last seasons top scorer, only got 12, and we need more from our strikers.

1186040606_TransfersIn2.PNG.c6faefd602f95e58565745cb3394d7f1.PNG

In terms of outgoing players, Hiruma got his head turned by an offer back in Japan paying silly money for what he is as a player, we continue to loan out our players to non league affiliate Bayankhongor. We also clear the squad out a bit to get rid of some deadwood.

AFC Cup

We coast past Taipower in the preliminary round, but in the playoff, get drawn against Western United of Australia, getting humbled over the two legs. As mentioned in the 2022 update, gate receipts are split in the AFC Cup, so we get a good boost of income from the away trips, which I will put towards club improvements.

Super Cup

We came out of the blocks quickly in the Super Cup, beating Athletic before half time. Our win in this competition, we have now won every available cup/league in Mongolia, the focus must now be on creating a dynasty.

League Results/Table

I thought another league win was almost a certainty until we stumbled in August, and letting Western back into the race, luckily we ended the season with 4 wins from 4 with an aggregate score of 17-4 to keep hold of the title.

Mongolian Cup

We were a bit unlucky to come up against a good Western team, but we dominated the game and didn't deserve to lose on penalties. Western went on the win the cup and we get them in the Super Cup next season.

1861441827_CupResults.PNG.19c1314b031e8a4a3057b9b078dfd1c1.PNG

Youth Intake

Nobody of any note here. Facilities are still terrible.

Team of the Season

Our new look back 4 is looking very healthy, with stand out player being Surenkhorloo with an average of 7.06, Zoljargal is really stepping out of Delger's shadow and becoming our main man with Dulamjav giving good support. Myagmarsuren also playing well, getting 14 assists from the right side this season.

Debrief

Another semi-successful year, I wont count it as a success until we win trebles. In terms of facilities, you may see a change of colour in the box provided above. I used the money from the AFC Cup in improve our youth recruitment, if we are going to make any moves in Asia, we need to get good youngsters coming through the ranks.

2024 Season

Expectations

After last year's league success, I expect more of the same but this time success in the cup too. In Asia, I would want us to give a better account of ourselves compared to last season, if we can reach the group stage brilliant, but if not, I don't want to be beaten badly again.

Transfers

Big news on the incoming side of things, as Saikhanbileg rejoins from Athletic, I would say he is one of the better DCs currently in Mongolia, so this is a big positive. Another DC in the form of Bat-Orgil joins, giving us a lot of depth in defence suddenly. Dölgöön joins as DL/ML cover. Enkhtaivan joins as a MC, and last important player is 'Ricky' Mendonca up front to be competition.

1524524753_TransfersIn.PNG.c42c23821ad329171e0d66b3e48c2ea8.PNG

Some more deadwood leaves, former starter Brey, Ankhbayar and Ariunbold some more notable names.

AFC Cup

After a good start against Sporting (MAC), we lost in the second leg, but still managed to pull through to our second successive playoff. Drawn against Kitchee, a semi-pro side from Hong Kong, we pulled off an upset away from home, but couldn't keep up the performance in the return leg, losing 2-0 to crash out at the final hurdle before the groups.

Playoff.PNG.472b13f68177c702c90921bc28d47f55.PNG

Super Cup

A strong performance in normal time, followed by a disaster in extra time, losing 3-0 in the extra 30 mins. Our chances of a treble die out before the mid point of the season.

1738922851_SuperCup.PNG.d40b9c3ea31f648b7d0baacbe66172c2.PNG

League Results/Table

Oh well, we finished the league season undefeated! Only dropping points against new rivals Western and bottom of the table FC Ulaanbaatar. Defence is getting stronger with our new look back 4, keeping 10 clean sheets from 18.

Youth Intake

Again, nobody of note coming through, maybe next year.

Team of the Season

Another good season from Zoljargal, scoring at more than a goal a game for the last 2 seasons. Ricky also starting well in a blue shirt, scoring 7 from 5.

Debrief

I think looking back on the season, we were hit and miss, obviously hit in the league and gave a decent show in the AFC Cup, but on the other side of the coin, a poor showing in both domestic cups, next year must be better. For some reason average attendances in the league are going down despite our performances, hopefully just a temporary thing.

2025 Season

Expectations

We need to push for at least 2 trophies this year, not including the AFC Cup, I think the main focus will be to retain the league and make strides in the Mongolian Cup, the Super Cup should be easy enough as we are playing a team that got relegated into the 3rd division last season.

Transfers

Starting with transfers in, D.Ganzorig rejoins as a backup at ST, Dulamsuren comes in to compete at DL. Oidov and Battulga both enter the battle for MC, and the other players signed will be for either the U-21s or the bench but bit part players at best.

961747030_TransfersIn.PNG.9012267cba9b4987dfa241208322fca7.PNG

Transfers out now, Monkh-Orgil leaves after never looking like winning his spot back at DC, Narmandakh leaves to go to Athletic despite our best efforts to keep him for another season. Other players that left were just deadwood and taking up squad space.

AFC Cup

Starting with the pre. qualifier, we did enough in the first leg to get past Sporting (MAC) to get through to the playoff, where we had a favourable draw against Taipower, a team we have beaten with a much weaker side in our first season in the AFC Cup.

Pre.Qualifier.PNG.e4e7abf4d815756dcf81913ece114d7a.PNG

A 1-1 draw away from home made them look good, all now down to the second leg at home to see who gets the final group stage spot.

Spoiler

719942605_Playoff2ndLeg.PNG.ce500d30d5b370dbdce6b5fbd98d6a06.PNG

A solid win with goals coming from Narmandakh and Myagmarsuren sealing our first ever group stage spot in continental competition!

In the East Asian group, most teams are very strong and all players have proper contracts with weekly wages, so I think it'll be hard to find a way out of this group, but hopefully we can snatch some points and climb the co-efficient ladder.

Asia.PNG.60ca980af26b82c6cf055e527d299caf.PNG

What a performance over the course of the group stage! A late goal from Chobyong in the 3rd game was all that stopped us from winning the group at the first time of asking, some major positives to come out of this season's Asian campaign.

An easy 3-0 win against the weakest side to play in the Super Cup in the save. Pretty much played a reserve team and came out unscathed.

League Results/Table

This season was so frustrating, the reason that we dropped 4 points in April was purely down to fixture congestion, with a game on the 16th (AFC), 19th (MPL), 23rd (SC), 26th (MPL), and 30th (AFC), apart from that and a little blip in June, we looked brilliant, but Tov were fresher and only lost 2 games all season, both against us.

Again, nothing good coming from this season.

Team of the Season

Zoljargal having another standout season, especially with Ganzorig (6'3") playing as a TM, my only worry is that we rely on him to score too much and don't have many other goal scoring threats.

Debrief

Probably the worst season of the save so far, the only bright spot being the AFC Cup, the extra money that it bought in and Mongolia getting up to 38th in the co-efficient. Next season needs to be better and hopefully some youth players actually can do a job for us, we have upgraded the youth recruitment to fairly basic, which is now the highest in the league.

Great save so far! I was wondering: how long does it take for a player to gain Mongolian citizenship? Maybe you can bring in some African/European/South-American players in in the future to improve the national team on the long run.

Cheers mate appreciate it.

In terms of citizenship, and its 5 years of continuous stay, meaning no loans moved abroad which in turn makes the save harder as we only get 6 foreign player spots in the league (And 4 in the AFC Cup)

I will try your plan, only hiccup might be they are called up for their birth national side before those 5 years are up.

2026 Season

Expectations

After last seasons disappointments, we are not in either the AFC Cup or the Super Cup, meaning prize money/gates will be down a lot this year. Luckily facilities don't cost a lot to improve at their current level, so I will be trying to improve them over the season. In terms of this seasons goals, we need to regain our foothold on the league and get far in the cup to make up for lost prize money.

Transfers

Starting with transfers in, we have bought in 6 non-Mongolians to try and turn the tables, the players bought in as close to the start of the season as possible are Inthilath(D/ML) from Laos, Dijmas(ST) from Chad , Ju-Hyok(GK) from North Korea. Later on in the season, Moniz was bought in for competition at DR. 2 players that I am excited about are Chabbi and Mohammed from the youth teams of Tunisia and Jordan respectively, both being 18, and rated at 5* CA.

862136666_TransfersIn.PNG.6009c99403deaa7332325d501b0b170c.PNG

Some notable names leaving this season are Surenkhorloo and Dulamjav, both were getting limited game time so decided to move on.

League Results/Table

That is how you bounce back, another undefeated season to regain the league title. We dominated all season and won the league on matchday 13, giving us some time to rest players for the cup campaign.

Mongolian Cup

Somehow only the second time the cup is coming back to our trophy cabinet, despite some challenges in the QF and SF, but a 6-0 dismantling of Khangarid in the final was the cherry on top of the season.

310616192_CupResults.PNG.ff453caab7e2f5be5b2a26205f68fabf.PNG

Youth Intake

2 interesting players coming through this season, Shajinbat Y26 (DL) and Monkh-Erdene Y26 (ST). Look out of these in the future as both have over 4* PA.

Team of the Season

Straight away, Ju-Hyok and Djimas making a big impact, the latter getting a good run due to an injury to Zoljargal that kept him out for half the season. Not the greatest season for goal scoring but our defence is now finally solid enough for that to not matter.

Debrief

A great season all in all, winning the 2 competitions that we were involved in. Next season will be a challenge due to the increase in games due to the qualifiers and super cup, but hopefully the new intl. players can come in and help us turn a corner. We have also managed to upgrade all our facilities, so another turning point hopefully.

2027 Season

Expectations

I think this season will be a bit of a tougher ask than last season due to extra games and possible fixture congestion. I think we should definitely be looking to win everything available domestically and at least get to the group stage of the AFC Cup and increase the nations co-efficient.

Transfers

Some more international players coming in, Mohammed was covered in the last update, but Hussein, Sdiri, Al-Dawud and Ben Salem also coming in. Some other players coming in for the future.

285574555_TransfersIn.PNG.a027ce0a463ed7fea6d5b89a004484e3.PNG

Some big names leaving due to some of our new international players, Saikhanbileg was the only player that I didn't want to loose as he is still a solid back up option. Oidov was a failed experiment, and so were players like Dashpuntsag and Ganush. D.Ganzorig left to Khaan Khuns Erchim as he was nowhere near the first team picture towards the end.

AFC Cup

Qualifying rounds went by pretty easy, nearly at the stage where we wont need to bother with the preliminary round, and we show our class in the early rounds, beating Taipower 8-1 on aggregate and Southern District 7-4.

Youth Intake

Nobody any good coming through this year, hopefully all of the improvements will start to kick in next season.

Team of the Season

Shajinbat Y26 and Monkh-Erdene Y26 both making team of the season as 1st year starters. Djimas also playing really well this season, getting 19 in all competitions. Chabbi and Mohammed also doing well as 18 year olds.

Debrief

Our first treble of the save! I think that we are getting to a stage where we just dominate on the domestic front and we need to start picturing moving on through the next rounds of the AFC Cup. Our experiment with the international youth players is starting to pay dividends already, and they still have a lot of room for improvement.

2028 Season

Expectations

Following on from our first treble in the save, I can only expect the same. In terms of continental football, I think if we can get an easy draw in qualifying, then 2nd or 3rd in the group should be a realistic aim.

Transfers

Nyamdorj comes in from Tov to give some competition for Ganzorig on the left. Abdullah comes in from UAE U-20s to compete for ST, all other incomings are squad players, don't look out for them too much.

1604446047_TransfersIn.PNG.5b0afd6bfb7d74aa8a893b3bce4c9213.PNG

Moniz leaves for Ulaanbaatar after not really solidifying his place in the side, as does Sdiri, also we had to make space for Abdullah for the foreign player rule. Yeroolt also leaves after years of service as he is now 3rd or 4th choice keeper and he is no longer premiership quality. Beh-Ochir also goes after not getting enough game time.

Pre.Qualifier.PNG.b9e20f89f881ec2936044af2dd18a490.PNG

We got the most difficult draw, against April 25 of North Korea. We go down 5-1 in the away leg and manage to get a 2-2 draw in the home leg. Maybe next season.

1323984115_CupResults.PNG.0dbd331da1b1943548a67e4fed4c111d.PNG

Youth Intake

2 players to look out for in this season's youth intake. G.Enkhtuvshin Y28 and B.Amarbayasgalan-Munkhtur Y28.

Team of the Season

Good to see Shajinbat Y26 and Monkh-Erdene Y26 retain their places in the TOTS. Ben Salem also makes a massive impact in his first season with 31 goals from 24 games. Zoljargal is now basically a backup, which is a shame given how important he was in the first few seasons of the save. Chabbi and Hussein also playing a massive part, Chabbi getting 8 goals.

Another successful season domestically. The only downside was obviously not getting through the qualifiers in the AFC Cup. With the saved up money, we have again upgraded our training facilities, youth recruitment and junior coaching to try and make ourselves a self sustaining club instead of relying on other clubs in Mongolia or overseas players.

2029 Season

Expectations

Following on from last season, again the aim is to continue to dominate the domestic side, and make some headway into the AFC Cup this year. Group stage is a must for both money and co-efficient reasons.

Transfers

Only 1 incoming, Ihsan from Maldvies to be our starting DL.

Transfers out on the other hand is very busy. Ju-Hyok forced a move back to North Korea (At least that is what he said) at the end of the season, and some old faces leaving after being released. Notable players being Bat-Orgil, Djimas, Ricky, and Inthilath.

2030 Season

Expectations

Need to push on in Asia this year. I feel like we can at least increase the co-efficient by getting to the group stages, as usually we get unlucky with the hardest draw in the playoff qualifier. Domestically, it's going to be another season of dominance or I resign.

Transfers

Didn't think there were any players in the league that could even enter the conversation for our first team squad, so unless someone amazing turns up from Mongolia, I think this will be a youth challenge from now on, apart from the odd foreign signing. One reserve player leaves to become a starter for one of our close rivals BCH Lions

2073082255_TransfersOut.PNG.a89d25079eec946d8bbae85d9c7eb7c6.PNG

This was a sad day indeed. Club icon (although in my book is a legend) Davaakhuu Zoljargal retires at 34 years old. We snap him up as our new U-21 manager, but he leaves for the managers post at 2nd tier Khangarid a month into his contract with us.

AFC Cup

13-1 against Taipower sums it up really, we need to push on to not take part in these stupid preliminary qualifiers.

Pre.Qualifier.PNG.eb948259b2dd7f927c7a68ee7d38eb24.PNG

We exact our revenge on Chonburi from last season, with a 79th min goal from Amarbayasgalan-Munkhtur securing the win and seeing us through to the group stage.

Playoff.PNG.736ecb90f411b5e87f63233b81e158c1.PNG

Only 3 teams in the group this season, TSW Pegasus were no match for us, losing to us in both games. Unfortunately, Kigwancha from North Korea were too strong, dominating the group. We were unlucky to lose the last game 5-4, as they scored in the 88th min to finish their group stage undefeated.

2031 Season

Expectations

We need to be making big strides in continental competition now. Due to our co-efficient, we now get an automatic playoff spot for winning the league, so no more preliminary waste of time games. Domestically the aim is to continue to dominate

Transfers

No incoming transfers again. Some youth players leaving for 2nd tier sides on frees that were not going to make the grade here. Notably our first 'good' prospect Monkh-Erdene Y22 and Enkhtaivan being released after failing to make the step up with us.

Group Stage

Coming into the group stage I was wary of Hwaebul as they are North Korean, and usually we do not do well against teams from there, but we had no need to worry, beating them 5-2 in the home leg and 5-3 at their place. Ben Salem scoring 7 goals in total in those 2 matches. A rotated team against Happy Valley could only muster a draw, but we go through to the Interzone playoff semi final for the first time in ours and Mongolian football history!

Interzone Playoffs

Despite narrowly losing over the two legs, I suspect that the group stages are the hardest bit of continental football due to how good Eastern Asian teams are compared to anywhere else in Asia. Persija are a fully professional side and yet we gave them a real scare.

Mongolian Cup

Probably one of the most comfortable cup runs we have had in a while in terms of results. Over 1,600 people spread out very comfortably to watch the final. Our highest attendance domestically ever.

Youth Intake

One player to watch Enkhbold Y31, who can cover at DC, but will be trained as a BWM.

Team of the Season

Ben Salem actually had competition for top goalscorer this season, with Abdullah chipping in with 27 goals. I think Monkh-Erdene Y26 has nearly had it as Tsedevsuren Y29 has also been prolific from the bench this season. Monkhbaatar Y29 also having a solid season in goal with an average rating of 7.22

2032 Season

Expectations

After last seasons exploits in the AFC Cup, I think if we get a favourable draw, we could push on to the Interzone playoff final or even reach the final proper. Domestically it will be the same objectives of winning the treble.

AFC Cup

Qualifying

A harder test than expected in the qualifier play-off, beating a strong Hong Kong team 4-1 on aggregate to send us to the group stages.

Group Stage

After only picking up 1 point in the first 2 group games, I was really worried that our chances of qualification were slim to none, but we battled against Kigwancha in the 6 pointer to kick start our winning streak, also winning the final 3 games to take us to 13 points. Luckily for us, Kigwancha dropped points against Ryomyong twice to see us qualify as group winners for the second year in a row.

Interzone Semi Final

We were never in this tie, a few suspensions picked up in the group stages really hurt us in the first leg, losing 3-0, and at home we also were outclassed 2-1. Arema are a top team at this level, so hopefully next season we can avoid them if we get through the group stages.

League Results/Table

I guess we had to lose at some point. 119 unbeaten streak comes to an end at the hands of the team that last beat us, BCH Lions, does this qualify them as a bogey team? Apart from that obvious disappointment, we looked rock solid, only conceding 13 games all season and scoring a league record 86 goals.

Mongolian Cup

The easiest cup run we will ever have, surprising Mazaalay 7-0 in the second round and beating Ulaanabaatar City 4-0 in the final capped off a good season. 32-1 in 5 games is an unreal stat line.

323981069_CupResults.PNG.33902090ecdfa3c398591137f04e22d5.PNG

Youth Intake

Lots of players to keep your eyes peeled for this season, Amartuvshin-Naidanhorol Y32 will more than likely be straight into the first team as a BBM/BWM, Temuulen Y32 as a backup. Bold Y32 can be a useful backup to Ganzorig on the left wing. 2 strikers coming through who both look promising, Osokhbayar Y32 and Suh-Ochir Y32, Osokhbayar Y32 looks the best on paper and will provide competition to Abdullah as we might need to look at evening out the foreign player quota.

Team of the Season

Houssem Ben Salem is a god amongst men at this level. 54 goals in 32 games! Our power up top is scary, with Abdullah getting 30 from 21, and Tsedevsuren Y29 bagging 16 from 19, mostly off the bench. We also have Mohammed popping up with 12 goals and 22 assists from MC and 11 goals between our 2 DCs.

2033 Season

Expectations

After the last few seasons' performances in Asia, we now have 2 places in the AFC Cup, 1 group stage and 1 playoff place, I think we can aim to win the group again, if we get through the group, I think that getting through to the IZ Final is achievable. Domestically, same story, need to get the treble again.

Transfers

After the resounding success of Ben Salem, Abdullah, Chabbi, Mohammed, and Hussein, I decided to bring in a load of other foreign players for the future.

1446858396_TransfersIn.PNG.153e7d3cffd7f74e79763fd7941c3552.PNG

Couple of youth players leaving. Most notably Zorigt Y30, who leaves to become the 2nd Mongolian player in history to play professionally outside of Mongolia.

AFC Cup

As mentioned, group stage spot is now automatic for us, surprisingly, BCH Lions also got past Taipower in the playoff to make up the group. The group was very lopsided, with only us and Rimyongsu ever in the race for first. Unfortunatley, they were too much for us this year, going through by 1 point.

Team of the Season

Ben Salem and Abdullah continue to dominate, with Mohammed also getting 16 goals from MC.

2034 Season

Expectations

We need to continue to dominate in Mongolia, and really try and make a push in the AFC Cup, or at least try and get the co-efficient up to grab a champions league spot for a season, due to more points in the champions league (3 for a win, 1 for a draw) compared to the AFC Cup (1.25 for a win, .42 for a draw).

Transfers

Another youth intake player leaving the country for a professional contract. Gives a good boost to the league reputation. Also the last of my failed experiments leaving at the back end of the season after not making a first team appearance between them.

AFC Cup

Group Stage

A great group stage, unbeaten and picking up some moral boosting wins against both the North Korean teams. Onto the Interzone semis, a stage we have never managed to get through.

Interzone Semi-Final

Finally we get an easier draw in the shape of LC Sailors from Singapore. An easy 4-0 win in the first leg allowed us to rest players for the second leg, mainly in case of injuries for the league season, and the interzone Final. A 1-0 win with our second stringers out booked our place to the interzone final, potentially 2 games from a spot in the final proper!

1041314894_IZSemiFinal.PNG.42852d4730d142c6578d2fb23f933bfb.PNG

Interzone Final

In the interzone final we got drawn against Dempo from India, who snuck past Selangor from Malaysia on penalties, which in my opinion, are the stronger of the two teams. A 96th minute winner from Ben Salem, who also completed his hat-trick, saw us win the first leg 4-3. A dangerous score considering Dempo scored 3 away goals, could this come back to bite us in the second leg?

1413383565_IZFinal1stLeg.PNG.5bc5a01c37386d70bf7f99c919ff5444.PNG

After down 1-0, things looked tense, for all of 6 minutes before Ben Salem scored yet again to put us 5-4 up on aggregate. Osokhbayar Y32 scored in the 25th, followed 2 minutes later by a Mohammed penalty to put us in control of the tie 7-4. Ben Salem added a 4th in the 52nd min, all we had to do is not concede 4 goals in 38 minutes. Dempo score, 8-5. Dempo score again, 8-6. Things were nervy as they were in all out attack mode. But it was too little too late for the Indian side, and we reach the AFC Cup final for the first time. The final write up down below.

AFC Cup Final

Here we go. The biggest game in Mongolian football history. There are no neutral grounds in this competition, and we drew as the home team. We play Al-Zawra'a from Iraq, another fully professional side. Ignore the 65,535 year history bit in the build up email. Must be a bug with the editor file.

542646178_AFCCupFinalPreview.PNG.70f82a2403416ac388260187a44f4880.PNG

The mood inside the ground was palpable, although mostly from the Iraqi support, who had bought 3,000 down to our 5,000 capacity ground, we may as well have been playing in the away leg.

The game kicks off, and the first half is nervy, although neither side are creating any good chances on goal, only building the anticipation for whoever manages to break the deadlock. Al-Zawra'a suddenly make a break just before half time, and Monkhbaatar Y29 has to make an athletic save to his right. The referee blows for half time with the scores still deadlocked at 0-0. The Mongolian Dream side, who usually score at least 2 or 3 before half time domestically, knew something had to change in the second half.

The second half starts and the Mongolians, with a smattering of foreign imports, come out the blocks firing, quickly playing a long ball while the Al-Zarwra'a players are still getting organised, and Ben Salem, one of the deadly duo, pounces on the gap left in the defence, he is one on one with the goalkeeper, and slots in the opening goal, shocking the Iraqi fans. From there on out, we dominate, managing to carve out opportunity after opportunity, but we cant find our second goal to secure the trophy. In the 85th minute, with both teams tiring after a long season, Al-Zawra'a get a corner, could this be a chance to draw level. They pile into our box, and so do we, the corner drifts in, 6 foot 6 Chabbi gets his head to it, the ball comes out the box, and Osokhbayar Y32 chases after it. Its now 2 against 2 with the remaining Al-Zarwra'a struggling to get back in time. Osokhbayar Y32 slips the ball into the gap he has created with his run and who else but Ben Salem rushes on, being chased by the remaining central defender, and again 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper, slams the ball into the back of the net with ease.

The full time whistle blows and 5,000 Mongolian Dream supporters (Turns out all the Al-Zawra'a supporters are glory hunters) erupt in celebration, only the stewards holding them back from storming the pitch to get Ben Salem's photo. We have done it, finally some silverware that isn't domestic.

1181541764_AFCFinal.PNG.70399f3ad4c083bc2bfe19e2493c9042.PNG

We got a massive pay out of £1.16m for winning the tournament which hopefully will go a massive way in going professional.

Youth Intake

One player this season to keep an eye out for, Uuganbayar Y34 comes in to try and displace Ihsan at DL and keep the foreign player count down.

Team of the Season

Abdullah now plays a bit part role at the club after a breakthrough season for Osokhbayar Y32 scored 33 in 28, and the main man Ben Salem notching 42 in 31. Mohammed also getting 19 goals and 19 assists from his perch at MC.

2035 Season

Expectations

Despite last season's success in the AFC Cup, I think that we might struggle in the Champions League a little, just down to the way the co-efficient tables work, where we will be playing teams from S.Korea, Australia, China and Japan, who's spending in a week goes well above our yearly salary/bonuses. I think that as long as we are not outclassed, it should be a good season. Domestically it's the same story, continue to dominate.

Transfers

No transfers in, but a load of youth players being released after turning 21 and not being good enough to get near the 1st team squad. Notably Monkh-Erdene Y26, Tsedevsuren Y29, Altangerel Y29, and Ganhavh Y31. Also, despite his brilliant scoring record, Abdullah also got released due to foreign player quotas, and constantly being unhappy due to not being involved in continental competitions.

Champions League

A solid few wins against whipping boys Aguilas from the Philippines sees us get 3rd in the group, we struggled against the bigger sides, losing 4 from 4, but 3-2 and 1-0 in the first round of games shows promise for the future, still will be a massive slog to be able to win this competition.

Amartuvshin Y35 on the left flank to possibly displace Bold Y32 next season and Tsembeldorj Y35 on the right to displace Munhuree Y33 and provide us with a potential long term solution when Myagmarsuren retires.

Team of the Season

Eligibility is 5 years of continuous living in Mongolia, so he would be, but I think he declared for Tunisia after he picked up some u20 caps for them. Also I think a reason he is not selected to the senior side is due to club/league reputation.

2036 Season

Expectations

Looking to build on the momentum from last season's Champions League campaign, hopefully can get more than 6 points. Need to continue to win trebles to inch the club reputation up too.

Transfers

3 players leaving after last season's big clear out, 2 youth academy graduates leaving at Ihsan also being released as he was not getting in the Champions League squad due to foreign restrictions, and I would rather develop young players in the league.

Champions League

Still a massively tough group this year, but we weren't the whipping boys! We were unlucky to lose to Macarthur in the first game, but in the second game, we capitulated, and ended up losing 5-3.

This time April 25 from North Korean snuck in through the qualifiers, and it showed how much we have gone forward as a club, beating them 4-1 and 2-1, as the last time we played them we lost in an AFC qualifier 7-3 on aggregate, losing 5-1 in the first leg.

The big story of this Champions League, were the 2 games against Jeonbuk, who were just off the back of 12 straight K League 1 wins and a Champions League the previous season. In the first game, we were up 3-0 until the 89th minute, and conceded in the 90th and 91st but held on to get a vital win. In the second match, we knew a win would see us get top spot in the group, and after getting a goal back from Chabbi, looked like we might be able to snatch an improbable win. Bold Y32 lost his head and was given a straight red in the 59th minute though, and we didn't look like scoring after that, but we held out for a draw.

The rules in the group stages are the top 3 2nd place sides in the Eastern groups (5 groups) go through to the second round. We lost out on that 2nd round spot by 1 goal difference.

Mongolian Cup

Another one, this time beating lower division Kharaatsai 8-0 in the semi, with Osokhbayar Y32 getting 5, before beating Tov 8-1 in the final, again, Osokhbayar Y32 getting 5.

Youth Intake

2 from this intake, for some reason at the time, I also screenshotted one of their attributes. Uuganbayar Y36 comes in as an option on the left of midfield, and Punsalmaa-Muntsguu Y36 adding another quiver to our MC bow, although at a massive 5'7", can also cover at DC.

Team of the Season

Chabbi weighing in with 11 goals this season from DC, none from penalties either! Uuganbayar Y34 coming in with 20 assists from DL, knocking Mohammed off top assists, who got 21 goals and 17 assists. The main men up top, Ben Salem and Osokhbayar Y32 getting 42 and 37 respectively.

Quick update/Breaking News

Not too sure why the 2036 seasons screenshots aren't properly added. No it's not an issue with your browser. Wont be able to fix this as I am in the USA for just under a week, but should have the 2037 season up by Friday hopefully.

Double exciting as it is our first season as a fully professional club! Again, no screenshots of the inbox notifications of this but I will add something with the dates on the 2037 season. Hopefully this will bring some good development to the club within 5 or 10 seasons.

2037 Season

Transfers

Just the one transfer going out this season, Tserenjav Y36 leaving as there is no way he is getting in the first team squad with the talent up front.

Champions League

This season, we got a pretty tough draw, with Jeonbuk, Higashiosaka, and Melbourne Victory. We started poorly, only picking up 1 point from the opening 3 games, and being dominated by Jeonbuk and Higashiosaka, who are still miles better technically than us. In the second group of results we didn't look too bad, and secured a 3rd place finish in the group by beating Higashiosaka at home and struggling to a 0-0 vs Melbourne Victory, the final game against Jeonbuk didn't really matter but this season showed that last season's run in the Champions League may have been a fluke. Still a long long way to being good enough to challenge for the knockout rounds regularly yet.

Another perfect season. We also managed to crack 1,000 spectators in the last game of the season, hopefully in the next few years these numbers will be our regular turnout and give the club a boost in cash flow.

Youth Intake

2 players to keep an eye out for, Ottono-Monkhbaatar Y37 can come in as a backup DL for the future, and Naidanhorol Y37 will come in probably as a starter as a BWM/BBM.

Team of the Season

Ben Salem and Osokhbayar Y32 still banging in the goals consistently, with Hoohoi Y34 also bagging 7 from 12 off the bench. Osokhbayar Y32 also getting 18 assists, which is the first time since 2026 that a striker has got most assists.

Update

I know that this thread has been inactive for the last 6 months odd. I took a break from FM while renovating/moving into my new place, but I have been back playing. Another reason the season by season updates stopped was because it was far too predictable, us dominating on the domestic front but not getting good results in the Champions League (I know it has only been 1 season on the thread but wait for the next update to see).

In the next few days I will try and get a few updates out, depending on image size, but it will most likely be a 5 or 10 year update, and moving forward, sporadic updates at the same kind of timeframe, possibly with not a lot of detail, mainly results and tables ect.

Reason being is that due to multiple factors the save has become even slower moving than a snail, I will list a few of them out here;

  • Mongolia's youth rating is 15 out of 200
  • On the editor they are a 3rd world nation
  • On the editor they have the worst game importance possible
  • Mongolia's population is just over 3.3 million, more than half the size of London's

This makes youth recruitment difficult to produce any decent quality of player, I only learnt about some of these aspects about 20 years into the save.

  • Prize money in Asia is very limited, to make more than £1,000,000 you have to get to the final of the Champions League
  • Player registration rules in the Champions League and Mongolian League is tough to get over - 4 foreigners (3 non-asian), 6 in the league
  • To become a Mongolian citizen, you need to renounce all other citizenships and live continously in Mongolia for 5 years.

This means that finding wonderkids (or promising players) that will come and play for us near on impossible. And spoiler, it took over 5 years of saving to improve my youth facilities to excellent.

Obviously the goal is still to win a Champions League with Mongolian Dream, but I suspect that it will be closer to 2100. #halamongolia

2038-2042 Update

Apologies for the lack of an update from the last post, have not really been enjoying/had the time to get back into any sort of Football Manager. Here is a glance at the 2038-2042 seasons for your Mongolian heros.

Seasons at a glance

2038 Season

Won everything domestically, obviously. In Asia, after 3 years of torment in the group stage, we actually managed to make it out, not by topping the group but by having a top 3 second place finish after beating Central Coast Mariners twice. Ended up getting shown up in the second round 5-2 on aggregate by Perth Glory, but never the less, a good step forward for the club, and an extra home game did our bank balance no harm.

2039 Season

Won everything domestically, obviously. Although, we did draw 2 games in a row 1-1, where I imagined the board finally started having second thoughts about me as manager. In Asia, after a lot of positivity from last years second round showing, we came crashing and burning, not making it out of the group, finishing 3rd, despite scoring 15 goals in the 6 games (9 were against the whipping boys of the group), our best attacking performance in the Champions League yet.

2040 Season

Won everything domestically, obviously. Another blip though, actually loosing a game! A horrific group stage, and definately one we want to put behind us, finishing dead last, scoring 9 and conceeding 19! Despite beating Shenzhen 3-2 in the first round of group games, we lost and drew against Japanese side Sakai FC, being beaten by Seongnam 5-2 and 3-2, and then losing to Shenzhen 7-1!

With the cash that was now burning a hole in our pockets, we improved the youth facilities from Average to Good to try and help up the chances of improving the team from the inside.

2041 Season

Won everything domestically, obviously. Misery in the Champions League, 1 point from 6 games. Yes we had a hard group but every game we played we were outgunned, this was a low point in this save with the sea of red in the fixture list.

We still had some cash leftover from the facilities upgrade in 2040, so went ahead and upgraded our youth facilities again, this time to Great.

2042 Season

Won everything domestically, obviously. A slightly better season for us continentally, not getting the wooden spoon for the 3rd season in a row, finishing 3rd but still a disappointing season.

Rebuilding an Empire - Mongolia

image.thumb.png.3806a5bee003305021562ffeac15c36e.png

... Immediately. We have not left Mongolian Dream. We have been approached by the Mongolian Football Federation to be the new manager of the national team though. We took control on 5th December 2038 with Mongolia ranked 181st in the world.

These updates will have to be slightly different, as I have used calendar years instead of seasons.

2039

Started: 181st

Finished: 173rd (+8)

Our first test was the 2042 World Cup qualification, entering at the first round, we beat Nepal 5-4 over two legs to see us into the second round, where we were drawn in a group with Hong Kong, Malaysia, North Korea and South Korea. Qualification started well with a win over Hong Kong, but then a 3-1 loss to Malaysia put a damper on our hopes. The next 2 matches went very well indeed, only losing 1-0 to a strong S.Korea team and a shock 1-0 win against the North Koreans meant we still had an outside chance of qualifying. We bottled the next game against Hong Kong though, so our chances were pretty much gone after that.

Fixtures2039.png.6ea854f26c4aaac67a23df086c85e8e1.png

2040

Started: 173rd

Finished: 168th (+5)

We finished up our WC qualifying campaign with a win against Malaysia, and back to back defeats to the two Korean teams. We finished 3rd in the group behind the Korean sides, but finished ahead of Malaysia and Hong Kong, both ranked above us.

2042WCQ(2).thumb.png.5c31d6e4331dc5f53c67df1bc234040e.png

Next came East Asian Cup preliminary qualifiers, I wont show the table for this as the teams are so bad we are never going to do anything but top the group.

In the actual qualifiers, we played games against Hong Kong, China and Taipei. Beat Tapei and Hong Kong but lost to China.

image.png.b5994bd5d863237e925f89a0bdda952b.png

2041

Started: 168th

Finished: 163rd (+5)

2041 was our first foray into Asian Cup, being drawn with Bahrain, Oman and India. In 2041, we lost to India 2-0, and then beat them 3-0 in the return leg, beat Bahrain 2-0 and then lost 1-0, and drew with Oman 0-0 to leave it a 3 horse race for the 2 qualification places on offer.

1 - Oman - 11pts/+3 GD

2 - Mongolia - 7pts/+2 GD

3 - India - 7pts/0 GD

If we matched India's result in the last game against Oman, we would be heading to our first major tournament with Mongolia.

Fixtures2041.png.5997a490cd80bf6d64878648fda854b8.png

2042

Started: 163rd

Finished: 160th (+3)

The big match against Oman. We took the lead after 11 mins from a Zagarzusem shot, we were in, India was still at 0-0. 24 mins, we get a goal notification from India, they had gone 1-0 up, but as long as we don't draw or loose this game, we are through. 28mins, Oman get a goal back, we pile on the pressure, and nothing until the 67th min, Oman score again. We throw everyone forward now. 9 minutes later, Zagarzusem gets his 2nd, but it still is not enough to see us qualify yet. 82nd min, Oman score their 3rd to pretty much seal our fate. Pretty much playing the rest of the game with only 2 defenders, Zagarzusem gets his hattrick, but 3-3 is the final scoreline, and India held out to win 1-0.

2042Table.thumb.png.500c9d603c1bb08834b63460b12bad2b.png

No rest for the wicked, as we were straight back into E.Asia Cup qualifying, against Hong Kong, Taipei, and North Korea. A win against HK set us up for the game that was imperative we won against North Korea. This time around there was no shock win though, as we lost 3-1. The wheels had fallen off and we followed that up with a loss against Taipei to see us finish 3rd in the group.
