[FM23] The Towners

I have been appointed as manager of my hometown club Enfield Town - nicknamed the Towners.
Their ground, the QEII stadium, is a stones-throw away from where I grew up and I've been there on the sidelines many times as a fan.
We're in the 7th tier & I'm using a downloaded database to start here!
 

We're a fan-owned club founded in 2001 after the dissolution (prior to the reformation) of Enfield FC.
We have a unique partnership with Triple H (who I will try to convince to join us as a fitness coach ).

 

 

We've had Football Manager as a kit sponsor in the past, although we've changed our kit colours since.

 

 

Our history and facilities are not much to boast about, but we're a relatively young club & I have high aspirations!

I will be favouring players born in Enfield as well as those that come through our youth intake.
(I have disabled the first transfer window, so no changes will be made to the original squads)

These are the players that will be in the starting XI if they are fit and ready to play.

 

And we have some very decent backups to fill the gaps and provide support off the bench.

Staff

Noto was an ex Enfield Town player employed as our assistant manager, but I have asked him to take a step down to the U18's.

 

Another ex-player has volunteered as a coach and I am very thankful he has as we have no other ex-players or Enfieldians interested to join our coaching department at the moment.

 

Bardle has played 87 games for the club and comes back to join us as my Assistant.

 

Towner Callis joins as our fitness coach.

 

 

Finances

We have no wiggle room in the wage budget and overall owe £10k more than we currently have in the balance.

Pre-Season

We're expected to make the playoffs this season and our title odds reflect that.

 

 

We had a mixed pre-season. Competitive games are totally different though.
Hercules looks like he will be key, if that wasn't obvious enough already!

 

 

I've chosen Smith to lead the squad this season.

2022/23 Season Kicks Off

In our first competitive match we face Hornchurch away.
They have no less than FOUR players that we could be interested in signing:
 

Joe Wright played 74 times for us from 2017-19.

 

Parcell made 154 appearances for us at right-back over four seasons from 2015-19

 

Sutton played 24 times in a short one-season stint with us.

 

..and Billy Bricknell was born in Enfield & scored 21 goals in 38 appearances over 2 seasons with us from 2019-21.

We started okay until we conceded an easy header at the back post from a freekick.
Parcell then took down Cass for a penalty which Hercules scored on his debut.
He didn't take long to score his 2nd either - a great header from a deep cross from Smith.
Wright fumbled a long shot straight to Cass for a turn around complete with a 2-goal cushion before half time.
We conceded a cheap goal from a corner to make it a tense second half until Smith volleyed in a screamer from 20 yards out to get us a great first win.

The first two players I highlighted we were interested in potentially signing from Hornchurch had terrible games and made mistakes to help us win!
