@warlock - Sonny Best named Player of the Match ]

04_Garforth_report3.png.723a3eb9e4f9d69166924f7c7dace1e6.png

We made four changes today and were still able to win comfortably which shows the strength in depth we have in this squad.

We felt aggrieved right at the start when Mitchell George was being wrestled in their penalty area, Mitchell did brilliantly to stay on his feet, not react, and bundle the ball into the net... only for the referee not to give the goal because he'd already blown for a penalty. We were all annoyed about that, and I think it affected D'Andre Wainwright because, unusually for him, his spot-kick was tame and easily saved.

But two minutes later, D'Andre Wainwright did give us the lead after great work down the left-wing by Sonny Best.

Mitchell George got on the scoresheet himself on 11 minutes after a brilliant cross by Nathan Waterston.

Unfortunately, Steven Johnson-Fikula lost his concentration at the far post, allowing Garforth to pull one back on 36 minutes.

For saying Nathan Waterston hasn't played much for us this season I thought he was fantastic today and rounded off a great performance with a goal on 62 minutes that restored our two goal lead.

There were 203 Trojans in a crowd of 207 today and I hope the Staveley Miners Welfare supporters enjoyed this win.

I am sorry to lose Sam Agius because he contributed to our promotion last season with eight appearances, keeping two clean sheets and conceding 10 goals, for a 6.95 average.

At just 21-years old, Sam will improve, but I can understand why he's gone to Leek Town as he wants to play football and he would've been challenging Ben Voase as a breakthrough prospect if he'd stayed here at Inkersall Road.

Sometimes it's difficult being a football manager.

Nathan Waterston (MR), Bolton Makwedza (DC), Steven Johnson-Fikula (DC) and Aaron Atkinson (MC) all performed very well last time out against Garforth Town, but Lewis FarmerCharlie RuttFilozofe Mabete and Ben Midgley have been supeb all season and deserve to come back in.

Filozofe Mabete looks a bit tired so Bolton Makwedza comes in for him.

That's our only change other than we can name seven subs in the FA Cup.

I'm so proud of the players today.

We took on Hyde United, from two tiers above us and, deservedly won the game with goals from Ben Midgley and two from D'Andre Wainwright.

Defensively, we were superb as a unit and Sam Waller and the defence deserved the clean sheet for their commitment, determination and work rate.

This victory is for the 894 Trojans in a record attendance of 978 inside Inkersall Road. The atmosphere was incredible.

Away to Bridlington Town, 3rd against 1st, we expected a difficult game and so it proved.

At the end, I think a draw was a fair result as the game was very even with nothing to pick between the two teams.

Bridlington Town took the lead after 11 minutes when we failed to clear a corner and they scored from a header when the ball was crossed back in.

06_Bridlington_tactics1.png.df268b30d48b41cb9fa3a09c82d69653.png

At half-time, we changed to a more Attacking mentality and system.

06_Bridlington_tactics2.png.3e80330d815b6a0a6c1b4abc360eab3b.png

Mitchell George equalised after 55 minutes, heading home a pin-point far post cross from Lewis Farmer.

06_Bridlington_tactics3.png.762171c19e7c2a670b5b7370f1a122db.png

We dropped back to a Balanced mentality after that.

We had a couple of chances to win it, so did Bridlington but, overall, I don't think either team played well enough to win it.

So, yes, a draw was a fair result I believe.

As expected, this was a very difficult game away at Hallam.

It was one of those days when we didn't have the rub of the green. We twice hit the post, and we also hit the bar, and despite creating the better chances, from more possession, we found ourselves two down after 34 minutes.

07_hallam_tactics1.png.000bab689ec4fa58c74ea5845083ba99.png

At 0-2 we went more Attacking but were unable to break through before the interval.

07_hallam_tactics2.png.bdfb742e6e2ca68edd9fe3ee30d1a0b8.png

At the break we made a couple of changes, bringing on Mitchell George and Lewis Farmer.

Two minutes after the restart, Lewis Farmer crossed from the right and D'Andre Wainwright scored to halve the deficit.

07_hallam_tactics3.png.be13c5782cdddaf4e649d8615a2821b8.png

After about an hour, we sent Tom Bell on.

We continued to take the game to Hallam but it looked like time was going to run out.

Then, with added-on time rapidly approaching, Sonny Best went on a mazy run and was tripped in the penalty area.

D'Andre Wainwright stepped up and equalised from the penalty spot.

Indeed. 948, a record attendance at Inkersall Road.

Check you club record page and see if you broke the record, if it didn’t give you a notification, then you probably didn’t.

‘There is no specific way to check that I know of. I usually have a quick look at the finances and check the gate receipts before and after.

I think there's a way to see gate receipts on the fixtures page.  It's an add-on option, I believe.

It will be interesting to see the finances at the end of the month (current game date 20th September 2023) when I do the Monthly Reports post.

We had by far the better of this game but made it unnecessarily more difficult than it needed to be.

We created lots of chances in the first-half but we couldn't convert.

Charlie Rutt's header, from Ben Midgley's free-kick, hit the post and, as the half wore on, we were preparing for a 0-0 team talk.

That changed though when D'Andre Wainwright finished well on 42 minutes to break the deadlock.

In the second-half we continued to boss the game.

D'Andre Wainwright doubled our lead with his second goal on 74 minutes.

With Stockport Town not troubling us, that should've been that but Sam Sharrock-Peplow conceded a penalty on 82 minutes, allowing Stockport to score from the spot with their first attempt on target.

The final 8 plus 5 added-on minutes were nervier than they needed to be, but we saw the game out.

We almost made it 3-1 late-on when Lewis Farmer's thunderbolt crashed back off the post.

Look, there's absolutely no point in us thinking King's Lynn play in the Vanarama National League North, that's our FA Cup-run over.

Yes they are a very good team, currently 10th in a Division four tiers above us, but we're a very good team too, we are unbeaten this season with nine wins and two draws, and we're third in our league, with a game-in-hand that will take us top if we win it.

We have to view this as a great opportunity to test ourselves against a team much higher than us in the football pyramid to see just how good we are.

In the last round, we beat Hyde United who play two tiers above us, so you never know.

Well we wanted to test ourselves today and King's Lynn Town certainly gave us plenty to reflect on.

For the first 30-35 minutes I thought we were more than a match for our Vanarama National League North opponents.

D'Andre Wainwright gave us a deserved lead on 23 minutes.

But that cliche about being most vulnerable when you've just scored proved true and within a minute King's Lynn had equalised.

10 minutes later they were 2-1 up and it was 3-1 by half-time.

After the break, King's Lynn gave us the run around. I'm not so sure it was a greater quality so much as it was greater fitness with them being a professional football club with full-time players.

Anyway, I thought the final score line flattered King's Lynn but I have to admit they deserved their victory.

The atmosphere inside Inkersall Road for the first half hour or so was electric and I’m sorry we couldn’t get the result we wanted for the 1,074 Trojans in a record attendance of 1,213.

Richardson leaves for Divisional Rival

I liked David Richardson and thought he could definitely improve as he's only 19-years old.

But he was our third choice right-footed centre-back and, if I'm honest, our fifth choice overall.

Last season I only managed to get him on the pitch four times and he hadn't figured at all this season.

I can't blame David for chasing regular football elsewhere... it's just disappointing that he's opted to join a divisional rival in Hallam.

We have a few tired players after the FA Cup-tie against King's Lynn Town so there'll be four changes today:

  • Jake Wallace (RB - for Kane Patterson)
  • Nathan Waterston (MR - for Lewis Farmer)
  • Aaron Atkinson (MC - for Tom Bell)
  • Angus Chapman(SC - for Mitchell George)

I don't say this very often, because we have a good squad of honest, committed players, but we were terrible tonight.

We didn't come close to the standards we expect and demand of ourselves.

09_AlbionSp_tactics1.png.c6de9bb6934f397a1881e6f1f9655232.png

We shot ourselves in the foot as early as the 11th minute when Filozofe Mabete missed his header allowing their striker a straight run-in on our goalkeeper for a gift of a goal.

09_AlbionSp_tactics2.png.dcc4ea46a46ba009c102bb54d7a04662.png

We huffed and puffed after that and went more attacking.

D'Andre Wainwright thought he'd equalised but he was offside.

09_AlbionSp_tactics3.png.1f8818ae54e64ec2d59a54e20add00bd.png

This was, probably, the worst we've played in my time as manager of Staveley Miners Welfare and we didn't deserve anything.

There's a lot of work to be done, that's for sure.

After two disappointing results and performances that was much more like what we expect.

Norwich United play at the same level of the football pyramid as us. We were expecting a difficult game so to win 4-0 was particularly pleasing.

I thought we were very good value and controlled the game from first whistle to last.

Mitchell George will take the plaudits with his brace, and rightly so, sandwiched in between goals from D'Andre Wainwright and Angus Chapman.

10_Thackley_report2.png.b62e0262e3db2bc0cf6f57e4056a09ee.png

This was almost a perfect game for us. We created good chances, scored four goals, restricted them to only one shot on target, and closed the gap on the leaders North Ferriby to the point where they are only above us on goals scored.

D'Andre Wainwright scored a hat-trick and had another goal harshly, in my opinion, ruled out for offside.

Angus Chapman completed the scoring with a header, after D'Andre Wainwright headed Sonny Best's cross in Angus's direction.

Having messed up our previous game-in-hand so badly, losing 0-1 at home to Albion Sports, it was good to see us comprehensively win our other game-in-hand today.

The only negative on the evening was Mitchell George limping off after 59 minutes. We don't think it's serious, and Mitchell wanted to play on, but I saw no reason to take any unnecessary risks.

Matlock Town's Causeway Lane (now called Proctors Cars Stadium) is 11.1 miles from my house and takes about 24 minutes to drive to.

matlock_town_ground3.png.116aacbad09acb48a0e86b9a4a754e31.png

I've watched Matlock Town play a number of times as they regularly host a Derby County XI, largely made up of U21 and U18 players, during pre-season.

I had an interview in the summer for my local non-league team Belper Town, who play in the same division as Matlock Town, but wasn't offered the job (they appointed Liam McDonald).

Belper Town (The Nailers) and Matlock Town (The Gladiators) have a long-running local rivalry and neither are doing very well this season with Belper Town rock-bottom and Matlock Town third bottom.

As a long-established Semi-Professional Team, you'd expect Matlock Town would pay their manager a salary.

Should I apply for the Matlock Town job?

I'm seriously considering applying for the Matlock Town manager's job.

Matlock Town play in the Northern Premier League Premier Division (Tier 7), two tiers above the Northern Counties East League Premier Division where I'm currently working, for free, as manager of Staveley Miners Welfare.

I am enjoying my time at Inkersall Road - Staveley Miners Welfare got promoted last season by winning the Northern Counties East League Division 1 and we're currently 2nd, on goals scored, in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

10b_new_contract_request.png.6754f338a96093cb11e66cad6e32d03c.png

I guess there's no harm in asking my boss, Staveley Miners Welfare owner / chairperson for a new contract in case Mr Terry Damms is ready to actually pay me!

Thanks, @warlock

I wanted to do right by Staveley Miners Welfare by giving Mr. Terry Damms (Owner / Chairperson) the option to offer me a new contract but he clearly isn't going to - at least not yet...

I am enjoying my time at Inkersall Road but it is irking me that I can pay my players appearance fees and offer players bonuses but I'm not being paid anything (and I know it's probably an FM bug on the conversion from Amateur to Semi-Professional status because I can't offer players actual salaries either).

I've heard from Matlock Town

10d_matlock_job_unsuccessful.png.d2aedbbb815e16597ddd7fe7ca00a505.png

And it is disappointing news.

So I’ll be continuing as manager of Staveley Miners Welfare and we’ll wait and see how things go…

--

Both Matlock Town and Belper Town find themselves in the Northern Premier League Premier Division (Tier 7) relegation zone this season.

In the summer, I did get an interview with Belper Town whereas I didn't make the shortlist for Matlock Town.

10d_matlock_lgTab.png.7eac59fbecdfe3004478bbf467d90ac6.png

Historically, Matlock Town have played at a higher level in the football pyramid than Belper Town for the most part.

matlock-town_rep.thumb.png.3cdef38e9c421677e929fa45aab99e65.png

Matlock Town are a well-established Tier 7 football club whereas Belper Town are well-established at Tier 8 and, usually, make a swift return to Tier 8 whenever they get promoted to Tier 7.

10d_belper-town_rep.thumb.png.96ab602e63652d3c9d503df502746a26.png

So, in-game at the moment, I imagine half-star football clubs are fair game whereas, I'd wager, one star clubs are out of my reach.

I thought I'd see if the Staveley Miners Welfare Board were willing to improve the training facilities as there's a number of players I had to agree to this as they wouldn't have signed for us otherwise - the players had locked that in during contract negotiations.

But no joy from Mr Terry Damms there either.

At times, this Staveley Miners Welfare team are a joy to watch... and that was the case today.

Mitchell George gave us the lead, turning in a 16th minute low cross from Sonny Best.

D'Andre Wainwright doubled our lead when he rounded the goalkeeper on the half-hour mark and rolled the ball into an empty net.

Ben Midgley made it 3-0 on 37 minutes, curling a fierce free-kick around the wall and in-off the near post.

11_Knaresborough_tactics1.png.979ef6eb37e2640f3a56ba26be9ba801.png

We lost Mitchell George on 67 minutes with a bruised knee.

11_Knaresborough_injury.png.a11838b2684ed49974eb42433f7e50f6.png

Sonny Best wrapped up the scoring when he chested down Sam Sharrock-Peplow's through ball and volleyed it in off the post.

I thought we thoroughly deserved our 4-0 win and it could've been more as Tom Bell (first half) and Lewis Farmer (second half) both hit the post.

But the opportunity arose for Angus to return home to Australia and he wanted to go.

Mickleover (Sports) Station Road (Don Amott Arena) is 11.1 miles from where I live and I can drive there in about 19 minutes as it's pretty much straight down the A38.

The Sports play in the Southern League Premier Central Division (Tier 7).

The Don Amott Arena is a ground I've visited numerous times as Mickleover Sports often play a Derby County XI of U21s and U18s during pre-season.
