Willington are second in the Northern League Division 2 (Tier 10), which means they play a level below us.

FAVQF_lgTab.png.051004866af9016755add3b5c4f0d1e0.png

We're at home and will start as favourites but, as we saw against Albion Sports in midweek in the League Cup, that doesn't mean much.

We've worked hard in training and are looking forward to this one in front of the Trojans at Inkersall Road.

x_no_injuries.png.88d0072eb38197369d90798627e8c21f.png

The medical team has given us a clean bill of health, although we won't be taking any chances with Connor Heath.

D'Andre Wainwright returns in place of Zack Clarke.

We do have a few tired players but, as our next league game isn't until next Saturday, I won't be resting anybody today.

Things didn't go our way in midweek against Albion Sports in the League Cup, we're determined to do better in the FA Vase today.

Oh, boy! What a spectacle! What a mix of emotions! I've got no voice left... can you tell?

I was proud of the players by the end, of course I was, I love this group of players and to see them completely turn around a game that was lost, and progress to the FA Vase Semi-Final, was special... but please, please, please lads don't put me through that again.

This will sound daft, after we've won, but I want to apologise to the 152 Trojans in an Inkersall Road crowd of 156 because we were awful. For 66 minutes we were utterly rubbish and then, from the 67th minute onwards, we were absolutely magnificent.

FAVQF_tactics1.png.93e7e01613c9313dbb6d91030570cfa4.png

To say we were slow out of the blocks is an understatement. We couldn't do anything right.

On 16 minutes, Kane Patterson conceded a needless penalty and we're a goal down. Charlie Rutt, who's the lifeblood of this club, had a right go at Kane. I don't like to see that, but it's not the first stupid penalty Kane has conceded this season.

We got no better and on 32 minutes we were two down.

We went more attacking after that...

FAVQF_tactics2.png.f2531ed8487ba123ef191cea61a60355.png

... but it made no difference. At half-time, not only were we 2-0 down, we hadn't had a single attempt on goal. We were atrocious.

Normally Pat Lindley [Assistant Manager] and I play bad cop, good cop where he has a right go at the players and I pick them up again. Today, during the break, we were both bad cop.

We changed things to even more Attacking and brought Brad Williams on for Kane Patterson, even though Brad can't play right-back, I just thought that as a natural right-winger he might help us going forward.

FAVQF_tactics3.png.9c8ad6e42c84de7a548effae6014250a.png

The changes made a slight difference. We did start to create some chances and, two minutes after the restart, Nathan Waterston's header was saved by the goalkeeper. Our first attempt on goal all game.

And then, on 48 minutes, D'Andre Wainwright got us off the mark, running onto a long ball from Brad Williams, closing in on goal and placing a shot in the far corner for 1-2.

For a minute, yes, we completely switched off and less than a minute later it was 1-3.

I'll be honest, I thought it was game over at that point.

FAVQF_tactics4.png.89ccc1d7dc9fe5105aab21330aea5987.png

We made some more changes on 66 minutes, we sent on our remaining subs, we sent as many players forward as we could, and we crossed our fingers.

Zack Clarke, bless him, on as a substitute, completely changed the game.

On 68 minutes, Zack won the ball in midfield, gave it to Ben Midgeley, who put Mitchell George clean through to pull a goal back.

On 73 minutes, Zack crossed the ball to the far post, D'Andre Wainwright volleyed home, and it was all level.

FAVQF_injury2.png.1eea8fdaf3ab82232d2b6d78c9639973.png

Charlie Rutt felt his groin in the closing minutes but we'd already used our subs so he had to soldier on.

In the penalty shootout, Sam Waller produced two stunning saves and we were through to the FA Vase Semi-Final.

I'm still not sure how, but I'm so proud of my players for producing an unbelievable turnaround in this game.

Maybe I'm being a bit petty but, as the Board won't allow me any input into player and staff recruitment, I didn't see any point in attending the Recruitment Meeting.

32d_DeadlineDay2.thumb.png.e06638dcf789f5f82c94384b09c1abd6.png

Since I was denied input, seven first-team squad players have left Inkersall Road and no players have been signed.

After the first 66 minutes against Willington last time out, I was tempted to make more than the two changes I have.

But I've settled on two changes.

Steven Johnson-Fikula comes into central defence for Tom Hannigan.

Zack Clarke starts up front ahead of Mitchell George.

This was a game of very few chances at either end.

33_Winterton_tactics1.png.51c63024416b4f7c5318ede14ae18805.png

After half-an-hour we changed from Hit Early Crosses to Work Ball into Box.

It made some difference, we started to create more, but neither side looked like scoring.

33_Winterton_tactics2.png.3a950056137d6b700f40912ef9b035a1.png

On 77 minutes, we made our last substitution and went with an Attacking mentality.

Still neither team looked like scoring and we seemed destined for a nil-nil draw.

A minute into added-on time, Winterton Rangers hit a free-kick into our penalty area and they headed in the only goal of the game.

That's 11 out and zero in.

We have no injury problems which is a good job since the Staveley Miners Welfare Board didn't sign anybody to replace the players that have left, including four on deadline day.

x_no_injuries.png.a787999f1b396faacc42ff8fd97bd3a5.png

The four deadline day departures have left us with some gaps in our starting 11 and matchday squad.

Tom Hannigan returns to the starting line-up with Jack Armstrong (DC) going on the bench.

At the start of the season, after not playing at all last season, I never imagined my assistant manager, Pat Lindley, would get any playing time at all but, as the only senior central midfielder left, Pat gets a start today.

Riley Moloney takes the final place on the substitute's bench.

34_Frickley_tactics1.png.543453333833eea05733d96001843b6c.png

I'll be honest, I have no idea what to expect today.

34_Frickley_report2.png.e8e07b3718c38093d79836bd60d53398.png

We found a way to win the game. That's the best I can say. At times we looked very comfortable, at other times we looked second-best, but when the final whistle sounded we'd scored more goals than Frickley Athletic.

The first-half was very comfortable. D'Andre Wainwright gave us the lead, Zack Clarke added two more and we were 3-0 up at the break.

After the restart, Frickley pulled one back.

Tom Parkinson restored our two-goal lead with a direct free-kick and that should've been that 4-1 with just over half an hour to go.

34_Frickley_tactics1.png.ed120b4527cd2ca88b0f9ac27bf1d548.png

But two goals by Turner, made it 4-3, and set-up a very nervous closing fifteen minutes plus added on times, not helped by an injury to Mitchell George after we'd made all our subs.

34_Frickley_injury2.png.058c342bc1bb6b0bd40d8f0bb65a960a.png

But we won and have clinched a playoff spot.

Having led the Northern Counties East League Premier Division for so long now, we're determined to avoid the playoffs, lift the league title, and claim automatic promotion.

Hopefully, we can achieve that.

35_bottesford_lgTab.png.22d5b42b293692950d6584c487b72ed1.png

We held a very positive Team Meeting yesterday.

Mitchell George should be fit enough to play should we need him.

I don't want to take any risks with Mitchell George, at this stage of the season, so Connor Heath returns to the bench after recovering from his groin injury.

I have to apologise to The Trojans supporters. We were shocking today and it was unlike us. Very, unlike us.

Yes, we drew 1-1 and went to penalties, but Cheadle Town hit the woodwork an incredible five times, the bar twice, the post three times.

At 1-0 down we went more Attacking.

FAV_SF_Cheadle_tactics2.png.e0f509536d6a2f500c1c4c9a951eea8c.png

Zack Clarke equalised on 78 minutes, and later hit the post but, if I'm being honest, Cheadle Town were the better team and deserved to win.

Penalty shootouts are a lottery. We've won a couple this season but, unfortunately, D'Andre Wainwright and Nathan Waterston had their spot-kicks saved and Cheadle Town won through.

Cheadle Town deserved to win, and I hope they go and win it.

With three league games left to play, we are one win away from clinching the Northern Counties East League Premier Division title and automatic promotion.

We're determined to clinch it today but we'll need to play a lot better than we did against Cheadle Town in the FA Vase Semi-Final in midweek.

36_Goole_lgTab.png.7d99d7352d9d9b4cfcf5ee8747e161b2.png

We held a Team Meeting and I thought it went well, but Steven Johnson-Fikula thought I was putting too much pressure on the team.

We did it! With two games to spare, we've done it!

We are Northern Counties East League Premier Division Champions.

It's been a long, hard season but I'm so proud of the players. They have worked so hard this season and given everything. We're disappointed to have lost two Semi-Finals in recent weeks, but winning the league title and clinching promotion was always our main ambition for the season and I'm delighted the squad have been able to deliver that for The Trojans.

Two first-half goals from D'Andre Wainwright helped us relax into the game.

Zack Clarke added a third after the break.

It would've been nice to keep a clean sheet, but Goole scored a consolation goal near the end.

The celebrations, on the final whistle, were something else.

I'm so proud. Proud of the players, proud of the backroom staff and, dare I say it, proud of myself.

Congratulations! Well deserved, in the circumstances

Thank you, @warlock. Your kind words are greatly appreciated.

There were times after the Board stopped me signing players and offering contracts, when we were losing some of our best players, that I didn’t think it would happen. But we did it!

Disappointed about the two Semi-Final defeats, but we won the main prize!

Oh well, two more games of football as Staveley Miners Welfare manager and then it’s off to take up my new managerial post at Belper Town.

Preview: North Ferriby (Home)

A few weeks back it looked like North Ferriby were going to overtake Hallam as our main rivals and, if they didn't catch us, at least beat Hallam to the solitary playoff place in Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

But their form has been very mixed, with four defeats, one draw, and only three wins in their last eight league matches and they're now fourth, 10 points behind Hallam and 18 points behind ourselves.

We have no injury concerns going into this game.

37_NthFerriby_injury.png.46f03c4a15f773f398747bdc5de0e28a.png

Youngsters Ben Voase and Riley Moloney have waited very patiently in the wings all season, without complaining, and have even turned down the opportunity to leave Staveley Miners Welfare and join other clubs.

So I'm going to start them both today and give Sam Waller and Sam Sharrock-Peplow a well-deserved rest.

I'm also going to bring Mitchell George in for Zack Clarke and Connor Heath for Pat Lindley.

Tom Parkinson has recovered from his tight calf but, with Brad Williams and Nathan Waterston playing so well, I see no need to rush Tom back.

This was a game of two halves. The first, North Ferriby definitely edged it but, after the break, we stepped up and controlled the game.

We took an early lead. Riley Moloney sent in a cross from the left and Mitchell George headed us in front.

The lead lasted until the 13th minute when North Ferriby equalised.

We know North Ferriby are a good side and, if it hadn't been for some fine saves from Ben Voase on his debut, we would've been behind at the break.

We started the second-half strongly and took control of the game after they had a player sent-off on 51 minutes.

Around the hour-mark, our captain Tom Bell hit a thunderbolt from 25-yards and we were 2-1 up.

Zack Clarke added a third, his shot going in-off-the-post.

Nathan Waterston made it 4-1, cutting in from the left and curling a shot from just outside the penalty area into the bottom corner.

On 89 minutes, my player / assistant manager Pat Lindley rounded off the scoring with a powerful shot.

I think 5-1 flattered us, but we'll take it.

We finish our Northern Counties East League Premier Division campaign at home in front of The Trojans at Inkersall Road.

We gave them a good performance last time in our 5-1 home victory against North Ferriby and we'd love to finish the season off in style in front of our home supporters.

For me, it's going to be a very emotional moment as I manage Staveley Miners Welfare for the last time at Inkersall Road before taking up my new appointment.

We have no injury concerns.

Sam Waller returns in goal instead of Ben Voase.

Sam Sharrock-Peplow replaces Riley Moloney.

Pat Lindley returns in place of Connor Heath.

Zack Clarke starts up front instead of Mitchell George.

And Tom Parkinson is back on the bench following his recovery from injury.

We wanted to finish the season in style in front of our own supporters at Inkersall Road.

And we did just that. I hope The Trojans in the crowd of 179 enjoyed the 4-1 victory and that all Staveley Miners Welfare supporters enjoyed this season.

A 19th minute goal by Zack Clarke gave us an early lead and we were never really troubled after that.

Goals either side of half-time by D'Andre Wainwright and a second for Zack Clarke made it 3-0.

Maltby Main pulled one back, but Tom Bell made it 4-1  just after the hour mark.

We took D'Andre Wainwright off so that he could receive a well-deserved standing ovation from the Inkersall Road crowd. 55 goals in all competitions from 52(2) appearances is some going. I'm glad The Trojans gave him the standing ovation his season thoroughly warranted.

The atmosphere at the end of the game, when we did our lap of honour, was something special and something I'll always remember.

I'm so proud of this group of players. They've worked tremendously hard this season and deserve their Northern Counties East League Premier Division crown and the promotion that comes with it.
