Stuniverse
Saturday 9th November 2024 Preview: Shildon (Home) Northern Premier League Division 1 East We're expecting a very difficult game at home to third placed Shildon. We really need The Nailers fans to get behind us at the Raygar Stadium. Sonny Best returns on the left-wing, with Nathan Waterston reverting back to right-wing, and Joel Vincent going on the bench. Tom Bell comes back into the team for Farren Simons who looks tired after the cup victory against Morpeth Town.
Stuniverse
Saturday 9th November 2024 Belper Town v Shildon Northern Premier League Division 1 East Raygar Stadium, Belper - attendance 220 (16 away) -- We knew it was going to be a very difficult game against third placed Shildon and so it proved. Both defences were on top and neither Shildon, nor us, were able to get many attempts on target. I guess... a draw... was a fair result in the end. Stuniverse
Tuesday 12th November 2024 Belper Town snap-up Kuhl I am absolutely delighted to have signed Aaron Kuhl and, at the same time, am amazed he's agreed to join us. Aaron has played his entire career at least two levels above us in the football pyramid or even higher. We've tried to sign a number of central midfielders since Lewis Farmer broke his leg and they all turned us down opting to sign for other clubs. We've tried repeatedly to reunite with my former Staveley Miners Welfare player Ben Midgley, but he is showing loyalty to Birtley Town and won't even enter contract negotiations. I think Aaron can come in as a genuine first-team player and is the set-piece specialist I've been looking for.
Stuniverse
Tuesday 12th November 2024 Preview: Sunderland Ryhope CA (Home) Northern Premier League Division 1 East Ours is the only game in the Northern Premier League Division 1 East tonight. Everybody else plays on Saturday. New signing, Aaron Kuhl hasn't trained with us yet so he won't be involved tonight. All being well, Aaron should be in the squad for the next game. We have some tiredness in the squad so I will rest a few players. Bolton Makweda comes into central defence for Steven Johnson-Fikula. Sam Sharrock-Peplow returns at left-back for Riley Moloney, but Sam really needs to put in a performance to convince me he can keep the #3 shirt. Joel Vincent comes in at right-wing, with Nathan Waterston switching to left-wing, so that Sonny Best can take a breather. Up front, it's a return for Dajaune Brown after his ankle injury so that Zack Clarke can have a rest. Edited March 23, 2023 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse
Tuesday 12th November 2024 Belper Town v Sunderland Ryhope CA Northern Premier League Division 1 East Raygar Stadium, Belper - attendance 202 (1 away) -- I am fuming after that defeat. We were 2-0 up and very comfortable and then we threw it away. Charlie Rutt conceded an unnecessary penalty at 2-0, to give them a way back into the game, and after that we didn't handle the match very well at all. Physicality is Charlie's strength, pardon the pun, but on this occasion, he overdid it. In the first-half, we tested their goalkeeper a lot, getting virtually every attempt on target. After the break, we hardly tested him at all and the phrase high, wide and handsome springs to mind. Much work is needed on the training ground after that collapse. That's for sure. Stuniverse
Tuesday 19th November 2024 Preview: FC United of Manchester (Home) Northern Premier League Challenge Cup Second Round FC United of Manchester are 4th in the Northern Premier League Premier Division (Tier 7), the division we're trying to secure promotion to. Sam Waller bruised his knee in training. Sam could probably play, but we're taking no risks in a cup-tie so Ben Voase takes the gloves. Steven Johnson-Fikula comes in for Bolton Makwedza. New signing Aaron Kuhl will make his debut with Leigh Whelan dropping to the bench, and Farren Simons, unfortunately, missing out. Sonny Best returns to the left-wing, Joel Vincent drops to the bench with Nathan Waterston switching back to the right-wing. Zack Clarke returns up front for D'Andre Wainwright. Stuniverse
Tuesday 19th November 2024 Belper Town v FC United of Manchester Northern Premier League Challenge Cup Second Round Raygar Stadium, Belper - attendance 306 (155 away) -- I thought we played very well against a very good team who are flying high in the division above us. Defensively I thought we more than held our own and limited FC United of Manchester to very few attempts on target. Unfortunately, they scored one of theirs and we weren't able to beat their goalkeeper. We went more Attacking in the last half hour or so but we couldn't get an equaliser. D'Andre Wainwright did hit the post but it wasn't our day. FC United of Manchester will know they've been in a game though. We made them work hard to progress to the next round. Stuniverse
Saturday 23rd November 2024 Preview: Buxton (Home) FA Trophy Second Round Buxton are 10th in the Vanarama National League North (Tier 6), playing two levels above us in the football pyramid. We're at home but we know it's going to be a difficult game. Sam Waller returns in goal in place of Ben Voase. Riley Moloney takes the place of Sam Sharrock-Peplow at left-back. D'Andre Wainwright starts up front with Zack Clarke dropping onto the bench. I'm also going to throw new signing Odin Samuels-Smith in at the deep end as neither Kieran Smith nor Kane Patterson have been able to make the #2 shirt their own this season. Stuniverse
Saturday 23rd November 2024 Belper Town v Buxton FA Trophy Second Round Raygar Stadium, Belper - attendance 249 (81 away) -- Buxton are a very good Vanarama National League North (Tier 6) team and they proved that. When they took a second minute lead, and then doubled it on 17 minutes, I worried Buxton might blow us away. But we seemed to calm down after that, grew into the game, and made life difficult for Buxton. We created a few chances - the best when Zack Clarke headed Joel Vincent's cross onto the bar - but, with a 2-0 lead, Buxton were too good to allow us back into the game. Stuniverse
Wednesday 27th November 2024 North Shields v Belper Town Northern Premier League Division 1 East Daren Persson Stadium, North Shields - attendance 230 (3 away) -- I don't know how North Shields are second bottom of the league because they made things very difficult for us. For 75 minutes, there was very little difference between the two teams, the only difference really was that we were more ruthless in front of goal with D'Andre Wainwright giving us the lead. We lost Zack Clarke after 59 minutes with a calf injury. The final scoreline flattered us a bit in the end with Dajaune Brown scoring in the 88th minute and D'Andre Wainwright completing his brace a minute later. Stuniverse
Thursday 28th November 2024 Belper Town sign Hall I'm delighted to welcome Louis Hall to Belper Town. Louis has spent his entire career playing at a higher level than we're currently at so, with none of our left-backs setting the world alight so far this season, when we heard Louis might be available we had to try and bring him here. I'll be honest, I thought it was a long shot, but I'm thrilled that he's chosen to join The Nailers.
Stuniverse
Saturday 30th November 2024 Preview: Lincoln United (Home) Northern Premier League Division 1 East Dajaune Brown comes in for the injured Zack Clarke with Zion Dixon sitting on the bench. New signing Louis Hall starts at left-back in place of Riley Moloney. Tom Bell sits out this one on the bench as he's looking a bit jaded, so Leigh Whelan gets a start. Aaron Kuhl has been struggling to find form since joining us so I'm going to try him in a different role today. We have a few more players who are tired after the midweek game at North Shields but, as we have no more midweek games scheduled, as we're out of all the Cups, I'm going to see if we can get them through this one. Stuniverse
Saturday 30th November 2024 Belper Town v Lincoln United Northern Premier League Division 1 East Raygar Stadium, Belper - attendance 227 (7 away) -- The players were magnificent today, I'm so proud of them. Aaron Kuhl hit the crossbar with a free-kick in the 15th minute, Lincoln cleared it, Odin Samuels-Smith floated a gorgeous ball back into the box for Nathan Waterston to volley home. Goals from D'Andre Wainwright, Sonny Best and Dajaune Brown saw us win comfortably. Tiredness did start to catch-up with us after the break and all three substitutions were because the player coming off was out on his feet. Thanks, @Blarney The cup defeats were against teams from higher divisions so I’m not going to lose any sleep over them. Yes, the league is going well, if only our local rivals Matlock Town could lose a few games because only the champions go up automatically. The loss to Sunderland Ryhope CA still rankles me though… 2-0 up and looking comfortable, but threw it away and lost 2-3.

Stuniverse
Saturday 7th December 2024 Preview: Grimsby Borough (away) Northern Premier League Division 1 East After our visit to Grimsby Borough today, we will be exactly halfway through the season. We are expecting one of our most difficult games of the season as Grimsby Borough are 3rd in the Northern Premier League Division 1 East, only six points behind us. Recent signing Aaron Kuhl is still struggling for form but, for now, I'm going to stick with him. Tom Bell comes in for Leigh Whelan. That's the only change to the starting 11. Stuniverse
Saturday 7th December 2024 Grimsby Borough v Belper Town Northern Premier League Division 1 East Bradley Football Development Centre, Grimsby - attendance 131 (13 away) -- This was a fantastic game and, I bet, for the neutrals it was very exciting. It was less so for me and my backroom staff. At times, it resembled a basketball game as it was end-to-end with lots of chances for both teams. Three times Grimsby Borough went ahead and three times we equalised. We went in front on 73 minutes when D'Andre Wainwright made it 4-3 with his fourth goal of the game. Grimsby Borough were just as tough an opponent as we expected. We started Attacking, as normal, switched to Balanced after we equalised at 2-2, went Positive when we fell 2-3 behind. And changed back to Attacking during the break. Fortunately, in the end-to-end basketball game, we scored more baskets than they did. Stuniverse
Saturday 14th December 2024 Preview: Cleethorpes Town (away) Northern Premier League Division 1 East A few changes today as, off-the-ball, there were some things I wasn't happy with against Grimsby Borough last weekend. Bolton Makwedza replaces Steven Johnson-Fikula. Farren Simons returns to central midfield, with Aaron Kuhl on the bench and, unfortunately and somewhat undeservedly, Leigh Whelan misses out. Zack Clarke starts up front in place of Dajaune Brown.

We caught them cold and D'Andre Wainwright scored after 51 seconds. After the break, we were slow out of the blocks and Cleethorpes Town equalised a minute after the restart. We still feel we should have won it as Zack Clarke hit the cross bar in the first half and he also hit the post in the second half.

Stuniverse
Saturday 21st December 2024 Stockton Town v Belper Town Northern Premier League Division 1 East Bishopton Road West, Stockton - attendance 685 (10 away) -- I think the least said about this game the better. We got off to a bad start when Charlie Rutt conceded an early penalty. Our former player, Jacub Hebda, converted the second minute penalty. That early set-back seemed to knock the stuffing out of us and we couldn't get into the match at all. Dajaune Brown equalised on 68 minutes with our only shot on target in the entire game. Jacub Hebda grabbed his second goal eight minutes later to give Stockton Town a 2-1 win.

Steven Johnson-Fukula returns in place of Bolton Makwedza. Nathan Waterston comes back in place of Joel Vincent. Tom Bell takes the place of Aaron Kuhl. Overall, I thought we controlled the game, although I would've liked us to have added to Zack Clarke's goal. D'Andre Wainwright and Zack Clarke both thought they'd added to our lead, only for both goals to be chalked off for offside. Dajaune Brown grabbed the headlines with a superb hat-trick. Sonny Best added our fourth late on. I was impressed by Danilo Orsi-Dadomo on his Belper Town debut. He created our first two goals, putting the finishes on a plate for Dajaune, and I thought Danilo deserved a goal himself after hitting the post twice. Stuniverse
Friday 10th January 2025 Belper Town sign Thomas I'll be honest, it's been quite difficult to sign a goalkeeper to replace our former #1 Sam Waller who signed for Wroxham recently. We offered contracts to two or three unattached young goalkeepers, but they all signed for much bigger clubs. One even signed for Millwall Under-21s. We're delighted to have signed Joe Thomas and believe the young, former Cardiff City goalkeeper, can become our new #1, allowing Ben Voase time to develop as our back-up goalkeeper. Stuniverse
Friday 17th January 2025 Callaghan signs for Belper Town When Sam Waller signed for Wroxham, it left us with only one senior goalkeeper in Ben Voase. So, as well as signing a new #1 (welcome Joe Thomas), I was determined to also sign a young goalkeeper to compete with Ben to potentially become our future #1. Former Coventry City goalkeeper, Charlie Callaghan, fits the bill and I look forward to working with him. Edited March 28, 2023 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Saturday 18th January 2023 Matlock Town v Belper Town Northern Premier League Division 1 East Proctors Cars Stadium, Matlock - attendance 503 (144 away) -- It's very disappointing to have lost to our local rivals, and league leaders, Matlock Town. Matlock Town caught us cold when Scott Bailey scored after only 21 seconds. We couldn't have made a worse start. Scott Bailey scored a second goal on 25 minutes. We were struggling to cope with Bailey's pace so we dropped to a Lower Defensive Line. On 35 minutes, Aaron Kuhl played a free-kick into a crowded penalty area and the referee awarded a penalty. To be honest, I'm not sure what for. Aaron Kuhl converted the penalty. After the break we went Positive. And with 10 minutes to go we went even more Attacking. But we were unable to grab an equaliser. Edited March 28, 2023 by Stuniverse
