Stuniverse
Friday 13th October 2023 Baldwin leaves for Golcar United I'm sorry to lose Isaac Baldwin. Isaac made 11 appearances for Staveley Miners Welfare last season so he definitely contributed to our promotion success. I liked his versatility as a utility player who could play most positions on the pitch. Unfortunately, I was unable to give him any playing time this season and, like so many of the fringe squad players, he suffered from the lack of injuries this season as there's been few opportunities to mix things up with the core group of players performing to a consistently high level so far this season. Stuniverse
Saturday 14th October 2023 Preview: Hemsworth Miners Welfare Northern Counties East League Premier Division We won't be taking any risks with Mitchell George today, as he's a big player for us, so we'll give him the day off and allow him to rest his knee. New signing Connor Heath will start in Mitchell's place and Zack Clarke will come onto the bench following the departure of Angus Chapman.
Stuniverse
Saturday 14th October 2023 Staveley Miners Welfare v Hemsworth Miners Welfare Northern Counties East League Premier Division Inkersall Road, Staveley -- A comfortable victory in front of a crowd of 195 at Inkersall Road. It was a debut that Connor Heath can be justifiably proud of, scoring a brace and only denied a hat-trick by the woodwork after he headed Lewis Farmer's cross against the post. Stuniverse
Saturday 21st October 2023 Preview: Winterton Rangers (Home) Northern Counties East League Premier Division We're still easing Mitchell George back after his bruised knee but he'll be on the bench today. If we need Mitchell, our medical team inform us he's ready. Ollie Battersby comes onto the bench today as the back-up goalkeeper. Sam Kellett's head isn't in the right frame of mind right now so we think it's best if he sits this one out. Stuniverse
Saturday 21st October 2023 Staveley Miners Welfare v Winterton Rangers Northern Counties East League Premier Division Inkersall Road, Staveley -- Cheered on by 202 Trojans in an Inkersall Road crowd of 213, we were on fire first-half and deservedly led 5-1 at the break. Conor Heath gave us a 22nd minute lead. But it was to be Connor Heath's last contribution as he'd signalled the bench a couple of minutes earlier to say he was struggling with a tight calf. D'Andre Wainwright and substitute Mitchell George combined for four more goals before the break. D'Andre Wainwright struck with a hat-trick, all assisted by Mitchell George. Mitchell George got on the scoresheet himself, assisted by D'Andre Wainwright. The only blot on our copybook was at 2-0, when Kane Patterson briefly switched off, allowing Harland to get goal side of him and Harland ran in and scored. After the break, we never hit the same heights but the game was already won by half-time.

Stuniverse
8 hours ago, Pearomaniac said: Have Staveley tried to hold on to you? Well, @Pearomaniac, I can’t say that Terry Damms has done anything to try and hold onto me. He hasn’t offered me a new contract and, when I tried to do the right thing by asking for a new contract before applying for other jobs, he flat out refused saying something along the lines of my performance didn’t warrant an early extension. He hasn’t even mentioned that I’ve applied for other jobs. As I applied for two in the summer, and a further two since the season started, I was expecting to have been told off by now. What my Owner / Chairperson has done though is financed the squad I’ve built, a squad I’m very happy with, and funded my first two coaching badges. I’ve asked to be allowed to study for a third coaching badge and am awaiting a decision on that. But he isn’t paying me anything, despite going Semi-Professional in the summer and paying the players - not a salary, admittedly, but appearance fees and performance bonuses. 8 hours ago, Pearomaniac said: What happened with the job application? I got an acknowledgement of my most recent application to Mickleover Sports (Tier 7) but they did say they’ve appointed an in-house caretaker manager and they intend to give him time to prove whether he can do the job or not. This is the only in flight application I have. The Matlock Town (Tier 7) application was unsuccessful as I didn’t even make the shortlist. In the summer, I did get offered the Shepshed Dynamo (Tier 8) job but I was undecided, and kept delaying whilst I pursued my application with my local non-league team Belper Town (Tier 7). I did attend an interview with Belper Town, but they offered the job to someone else and, by then, Shepshed Dynamo had waited long enough for me to decide and had moved on themselves. Stuniverse
Saturday 28th October 2023 Preview: Nuneaton Griff (Home) FA Vase 1st Round Nuneaton Griff play in Midland League Division One (Tier 10), a level below us. We're also at home and start as favourites but we'll need to guard against complacency. We have a bit of a situation in the goalkeeping department at the moment. Sam Waller is my number one and has performed very well all season, but Sam Kellett and Ollie Battersby are both unhappy as they're not getting the playing time they feel they deserve. I have sympathy for both of them. Kellett was my number one for most of last season and performed well, but lost his place towards the end of the season when we signed Waller. Battersby was signed to challenge Kellett before we signed Waller. But Ben Voase is going on the bench today as I don't want unhappy players who mouth off in the press anywhere near my matchday squad. Connor Heath is still recovering from a tight calf so Mitchell George (who recently missed out with a bruised knee) will start up front alongside D'Andre Wainwright. Stuniverse
Saturday 28th October 2023 Staveley Miners Welfare v Nuneaton Griff FA Vase 1st Round Inkersall Road, Staveley -- Well we're through to the next round and that was the aim today. The weather was awful today, with the heavy rain, and for a while we were even worse. Mistakes by Kane Patterson and later Tom Hannigan almost gifted them two goals. After about 20 minutes we settled into the game and looked the most likely to score, although we didn't manage to beat their goalkeeper. In our goal, Sam Waller didn't have a shot to save. In contrast to a poor game, we were treated to nine top-notch penalties. Fortunately, for us, because penalty shootouts are a lottery, Sam Waller became the hero with the only save and we won 5-4! Stuniverse
Saturday 4th November 2023 Preview: Frickley Athletic (away) Northern Counties East League Premier Division We don't have any injury concerns as such, but we won't be rushing Connor Heath back from his tight calf. Stuniverse
Sunday 4th November 2023 Frickley Athletic v Staveley Miners Welfare Northern Counties East League Premier Division Westfield Lane, South Elmsall -- We've been playing well of late, but the one thing we've been struggling with, which wasn't a problem earlier in the season, is scoring goals. I thought we were comfortable and in control of the game, but we only managed one goal through D'Andre Wainwright after 26 minutes. We had chances to add a second goal but couldn't take them. And the problem, with a one goal lead, is that if they score then it's all square. And that's what happened on 76 minutes when they took advantage of Tom Hannigan's mistake at the back. We went more Attacking after that and pushed on looking for a winner. We thought D'Andre Wainwright had won it on 79 minutes but it was disallowed for offside, a decision that had us fuming in the dugout. Still, a point away from home against Frickley Athletic could be a vital point for us at the end of the season.

There’s three local non-league teams that I’d love to manage on this save because I’ve actually been to their grounds and watched them play. And during this season, all three have sacked their manager, I’ve applied for all three jobs, been interviewed for two of them, and not been offered any of them. Stuniverse
Saturday 11th November 2023 Preview: Armthorpe Welfare (away) Northern Counties East League Premier Division We have no injury concerns and go again unchanged for this one. Unusually, for us, in the last two games - (H) Nuneaton Griff FA Vase and (a) Frickley Athletic - we've struggled to score goals. I'm hoping that's a temporary blip and not the sign of a bigger issue.
Stuniverse
Saturday 11th November 2023 Armthorpe Welfare v Staveley Miners Welfare Northern Counties East League Premier Division Marra Falcons Stadium, Armthorpe -- I'm not sure why, but our problems in converting chances continued against Armthorpe. In the first-half, we only mustered five attempts on goal and we didn't get any of them on target. At the break, we made a couple of changes going Positive (instead of Balanced) and asking our wingers to Attack (not Support). Second-half we were back to our old selves in front of goal. Seven minutes after the restart, Lewis Farmer rounded-off a superb passing move down the right to give us the lead. Mitchell George then scored two goals in two minutes and we were cruising. Lewis Farmer made it 4-0 from the penalty spot, after Connor Heath was tripped from behind when clean through with only the goalkeeper to beat. Stuniverse
Wednesday 15th November 2023 Chester Manager Unhappy I've upset Chester manager Brad Bell over my usage, or lack of usage, of loan player Zack Clarke. Zack Clarke has made one appearance for us but that's not enough to convince Brad Bell that I'm using Zack as a squad player. To be fair, Zack is my fourth choice striker and I do see him as a squad player but, because Mitchell George, D'Andre Wainwright and Connor Heath have remained injury and suspension free, I haven't had opportunity to put Zack on the bench much this season so far. Of course, there wasn't an option to say that so I had to say something along the lines of Zack isn't good enough to be a squad player and needs to improve. Before Brad Bell put the phone down on me, he said he didn't think he could trust me and wouldn't be loaning me any more players. Stuniverse
Wednesday 15th November 2023 Staveley Miners Welfare v Bottesford Town Northern Counties East League Premier Division We're at home today, so we'll have the home advantage cheered on by The Trojans supporters, but Bottesford Town are 4th, nine points behind us, so we're expecting them to provide a very difficult challenge. 0-0 at half-time last time out against Armthorpe Welfare, we made tactical changes at the break and won 4-0. I'm going with an unchanged side but am making a slight change to the way I want us to play - a sort of half-measure on the change we made after 45 minutes in the Armthorpe match. We'll stay with a Balanced mentality, but I'll be asking my wingers to Attack, rather than Support. Edited February 5, 2023 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse
Wednesday 15th November 2023 Staveley Miners Welfare v Bottesford Town Northern Counties East League Premier Division Inkersall Road, Staveley -- My overall feeling at the moment is relief. I'm very relieved we managed to win this game because we were nowhere near our best and I would feel aggrieved if I was the Bottesford Town manager and had lost this one after how well his team played. I have sympathy for Jimmy McNeil. For the second game running, we didn't perform first-half and we adjusted things at the break. This time we changed to an Attacking mentality from Balanced. It still wasn't working, D'Andre Wainwright couldn't get into the game at all, playing a 6.2, so we prepared to bring Connor Heath on for him. Then Tom Hannigan knocked the ball forward on 54 minutes, Mitchell George headed it into the penalty area, where D'Andre Wainwright ran onto it and smashed it past their goalkeeper into the bottom corner. Would you believe it? We had to cut our celebrations short so that we could cancel the substitution and bring Nathan Waterston on for Lewis Farmer who was struggling with a knock on his knee. Nine minutes later, Sonny Best crossed in from the left and D'Andre Wainwright, who I was on the verge of substituting 10 minutes earlier, headed our second goal of the game. Sam Waller has been excellent for us all season but, on 65 minutes, Sam came racing out of his penalty area in pursuit of their long goal-kick. We couldn't believe it, Sam was never going to get to the ball first, and it allowed their striker, Bacon, to score the softest, of soft goals. We had a very nervous last 25 minutes or so after that but we saw the game out for a win and a vital three points. Stuniverse
Thursday 16th November 2023 Wallace agrees Portadown move As a Northern Irish lad, I can't blame Jake Wallace at all for signing a contact with Lough41 Championship side Portadown. Jake Wallace was my back-up right-back but, as he can only play the one position, he lacked the flexibility to get onto the substitute's bench as a utility player. Due to Kane Patterson's impressive form, there hasn't been an opportunity to give Jake a start. Even if Jake had been playing regularly, we couldn't get anywhere close to the deal Portadown are prepared to offer him.

Stuniverse
Saturday 18th November 2023 Staveley Miners Welfare v Sleaford Town FA Vase 2nd Round Inkersall Road, Staveley -- With the limited resources we have for scouting outside the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, we're never quite sure what to expect when we play a team from another division in the cup. It's very pleasing then, to have won comfortably against a Sleaford Town team who, like us, are top of their Tier 9 division. D'Andre Wainwright scored a superb hat-trick and substitute Connor Heath added our fourth. We knew Sleaford were a good team and, at 3-0, they proved it when they pulled it back to 3-1 with a scintillating team goal. Stuniverse
Saturday 25th November 2023 North Ferriby v Staveley Miners Welfare Northern Counties East League Premier Division Dransfield Stadium, North Ferriby -- Wow! The players were outstanding today and this may well prove to be a crucial away win at the end of the season. We knew North Ferriby would give us a really tough contest and they did. We rode our luck as early as the second minute when they crashed a shot against the post. Five minutes later, Mitchell George glanced a header against North Ferriby's post. On 19 minutes, our captain, Tom Bell, rose to the occasion, literally, with a powerful header that broke the deadlock. Two minutes later, D'Andre Wainwright doubled our lead. On the 26th minute, another Mitchell George header skimmed the top of the bar and went over. The second-half was a cagier affair. North Ferriby pulled a goal back with 19 minutes remaining but we were able to see the game out for a massive, massive win. Come on you, Trojans! We have to travel to away matches although, I have noticed, there appears to be fewer local teams now we've been promoted from Northern Counties East League Division 1 to Northern Counties East League Premier Division. -- Scouting Costs So this one, I suppose, is partly on me as I set-up the Recruitment Focuses and request scouting reports on players. I knew it costs £120.00 a time to scout players but I guess this mounts up. Although, to be fair, we've only spent £24,760 on scouting so far this season so would come in under the £70,185 scouting budget Mr Terry Damms signed-off on. -- Ground Maitenance Again, not much we can do about Ground Maitenance as we have got to maintain Inkersall Road so that we can play our home matches. -- Bonuses 31 minutes ago, Punch said: 40k in bonuses this season. That's you match payment bonuses - appearance fees, goal bonuses etc, they add up pretty quick. Well done, @Punch... this looks like our big expense and, you are right, it's the appearance fees, unused substitute fees, goal bonuses, clean sheet bonuses, assist bonuses etc. Hmmmn, well we're top of the league because I'm playing my best players and, in the majority of cases, my better players are going to be paid the biggest fees and bonuses. I suppose 16 players in a matchday squad each game, with bonuses, it's going to add up. I could look at playing players that would cost us less but then I'll be picking worse players and a worse team and our results will surely suffer. Mr Terry Damms has set me a wage budget of £1,926.00 per week and this is where it gets confusing because none of the players get paid a wage, but they do get paid bonuses, and every time I signed a new player, our "Currently spending" and "Committed spending" increased so I guess this is where it shows. We are £47.00 over budget but that will come back in line when Jake Wallace joins Portadown on New Year's Day. I think...
