Youth affiliates - "players move freely"

With affiliate clubs, there is an option to have players "move freely". If I wanted players to move freely between, lets say, an u17 team (standalone team with a max age of 17) and a parent clubs youth academy as opposed to the first team, would I have to have the youth academy set up as an affiliate of the first team and the u17 teams as affiliates of the academy?

Yes. You can also set the U17 as affiliate for the first team (which would make sense), but it doesn't add anything for what you want.

Ok, thanks for that. It should be simple enough. Is there an option for an affiliate to use the same staff or is it only facilities? I ask because the club I am planning on doing this for, in real life, the assistant manager is also the HoYD and, if the academy is standalone, he wouldn't have any say over their youth recruitment unless staff is shared.
