Well, I took the tactic from my friend who is doing the saga on YouTube as Venezia (I'm even waiting for the sequel) and I'm using it here in Valencia. Insane results, I can't even believe this is possible.

In big games I'm dropping the defensive block to normal and changing the experimental functions to support, it's given me a lot of defensive sustainability without losing the idea of De Zerbi itself.

Trying to build something over the info you guys have brought up there, one thing that I am not sure if I should put the Defensive line to the Highest or not, it seems that some players are kind of each other's way atm. And the passing lines are a bit hectic.

Results look good for this one but I just don’t see from the match highlights that it’s anything like a de zerbi tactic. Almost no short passes between the centre backs and cdms, and very direct all the time.
It’s a very tough recreation for sure.

I’ve tried tirelessly and failed. Only pointers I could reccomend is try with a really good team first as it’s soul destroying attempting it with someone like Brighton in game.

Mid season my GK randomly started to play out from the back to RB only now, despite how and who of the back 4 is being pressed or not.. This AI is cookie :D So I think you have to remove distribute to full backs and leave it to center backs only.

Barring any surprises, RDZ is to become the new coach of Olympique de Marseille for the next three years.

Roberto De Zerbi has shown real enthusiasm at the idea of coaching in a setting as hot as Marseille : the atmosphere of the Velodrome, the passion of the South, the history of the club... OM attracts him.

The prospect of working over three years motivates him.

A huge coup for the club.

Olympique de Marseille will play 5 friendlies this summer in preparation for their Ligue 1 season. De Zerbi's men have already faced Nîmes on July 21, before playing SC Toulon, Pau, Sunderland and Augbsurg to finish on August 10.
For the first 3 games, RDZ fielded an initial 4-2-3-1 shape.
4-4-2 flat Out of Possession
3-2-2-3 In Possession

Merlin (LFB) plays the role of inside fullback, forming the double pivot in the 3+2 build phase, pushing the midfielder higher up on the same side.
Use of 1+2 microstructures to make progress in tight spaces, particularly on the Balerdi (CDC); Kondogbia (RMD); Merlin (LFB) axis.

Great post! Really interested to see how de Zerbi's philosophy translates to Marseille!

The use of positional structures based on '4 heights' applied during the match against Sunderland.

Of particular note in this match was the positioning of Merlin (LFB), who played in the AMC strata in the possession phase. The incorporation of Hojbjerg into the midfield (a double pivot formed with Kondogbia) enabled Merlin to project himself more frequently than in recent games.

Last weekend saw the start of the French L1 championship for the 2024-2025 season.
For his first match in the colours of Olympique de Marseille, Roberto De Zerbi fielded a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Koné, Brassier and Kondogbia absent from the starting 11.
In the week leading up to the match, RDZ worked on a system with Lirola (LFB) and Merlin (LDM).
The system changed from 4-2-3-1 to 3-2-2-3 in deferred possession, with Henrique (LW) moving inside as AMCL, while Lirola (LFB) occupied the winger position.

The concept of 'W and M' formation.

The return of the starting players will certainly define a more permanent pattern.
RDZ intends to play Koné as an attacking midfielder.
Will he position him physically in the 4-2-3-1 position ? Or will he be virtually on the attacking line with Merlin's switch to defensive midfielder ?

Here are some new sources on OM's tactical system under De Zerbi.

Roberto De Zerbi – Olympique Marseille – Tactical Analysis - The Football Analyst (the-footballanalyst.com)

With the recent arrival of Rabiot, a return to a system where Merlin plays the role of inside fullback, forming the double pivot in the build phase, pushing the midfielder higher up on the same side is quite possible.
As for Koné, initially a relay midfielder, Roberto De Zerbi sees him as a more attacking profile occupying the AMC position.
