Modern Wing Backs, Ten Hag Style

How can i recreate wingbacks similar to how erik ten hag uses them for man united, where they sit narrow in possesion but overlap when my wingers who stay wide in build up cut inside.

An IWB will support the midfield and stay more narrow if there is a player ahead of him and play like an traditional wing back if there is no wide attacker or one who cuts inside.

thought so, but never seem to catch that movement in game, the cut inside with ball puts me off. also should i worry about the suitability of the role with my players as none of them seem to be able to play it well on paper

Maybe its not part of the highlights yet, but if you watch the full match you should see that behaviour. Defenetly use players who can play that role or have the right attributes (so they can get familiar with the role). Also make sure to max out tactical familiarity for the role.

I just have the FB(s)'s sit narrow and get forward, with IW/IF's ahead of the asked to stay wide. Seems to encourage it on occasion without making it a constant move.
