SophJay182
The wide-target forward was introduced to FM in I think FM14. The idea being a strong attacker would pull out to the flank where he was bigger and stronger than the wingback/fullback he was up against and could therefore dominate them aerially. Unless i'm mistaken it was created in response to Lukaku playing a wide attacking position for Everton many years ago (especially in a game against Arsenal that Arsenal lost). I would argue in real life Jack Grealish plays a little bit like that at Man City where he's meant to help hold the ball wide and bring others into play. At the time I was hoping (SI) would create a deep-lying target forward (in the CAM slot) alongside it. Same philosophy of a player a big target attacker that rather than going up against big centre backs would drop deep into attacking midfield where they can assert aerial dominance and provide an out-ball for their team. But it was difficult to argue for when there weren't many real world examples of it. But now with Wout Weghorst being played as a 10 (CAM) for Manchester United, I think it's time for me to renew my call to SI to consider adding the role for FM24. Here is a video where some football commentators/analysts look into what Ten Hag is doing with Weghorst
Administrators Zachary Whyte Posted April 20, 2023 Administrators Share Posted April 20, 2023 Thank you for the suggestion. This will be taken under consideration by the developers and could feature in a future FM.
