Main difference is that while the AF is sitting on the shoulder of a defender (looking to run in behind) the PF(a) is running around pressing the opposition. So in a high lines system the PF is great, you can win the ball back and score. In a lower lines system the PF pressing means you aren't as serious a threat when you win the ball back. If you want a PF who links play go for the PF(S). A like for like replacement for an AF in a highlines system is the Poacher. In general: forwards on attack duty are looking to score themselves.
