Cycladic
2nd in the 1st Division, after a somewhat average start. Looks like Villa have a real chance of being promoted next season. Not to mention Totti and Shevchenko scoring a fair few Nice update, btw
Ridleys
January 2009 - Things are hotting up! So the second season has begun, and there has been a few surprises already. One of the biggest surprises was the fact that one of the teams had become the 3rd richest country in the world over the period of just a few months. This team was Birmingham City! The amount of money they have made is extraordinary, most of it coming from transfers as they sold 10 of there first team squad for a total of £121 million. They then spent £30.4 million but still had about £90 million left in the bank! Another shock is how many managers one of the teams has had during their one and a half seasons in Scottish football so far. This team is Manchester United who have had 5 different managers, 3 of them coming and going in just 2 weeks last season. There is also new talent being developed and the first one to really stick out is this player: Luke Garner of Aston Villa who has a Potential Ability of 193! I'm astonished that there is no interest in him as of yet. Time to move on to the leagues: Ridleys Premier Division Sunderland once again lead the way as we come to the halfway stage as they have gained a lead of an amazing 13 points over second place. They have lost only 1 game out of 20 and conceded only 17 goals. They have been top since the beginning of October and it doesn't look like anybody is going to catch them. Manchester City are in second place, but still 13 points behind Sunderland in first. They were in 3rd position this time last season and dropped down 2 places before the end. Will the same happen again? They heavily strengthened their attack over the summer, bringing in superstars like Kaka, Joaquin and Iniesta to help there push for the top spot. Portsmouth had an excellent start to the season and were top for a short spell before dropping down to third place. They have been fighting for second place with Manchester City and are only 2 points behind them as we go in to the second half of the season. This looks like it's shaping up to be a good battle for the second Champions League spot as Sunderland are almost guaranteed to get the first one. Blackburn Rovers find themselves at the bottom end of the table this season, just like last. Their problem seems to be scoring as there top goalscorer Lukas Podolski only has 3 goals, and he is only on loan. Blackburn are more than capable of scoring goals though, with a formidabble force of Michael Owen and Thierry Henry upfront, even the best of defenders should have trouble dealing with them. As they are both getting older though, they seem to lack the standard that they used to perform at. Derby County once again have made a poor start to the campaign and lie second from bottom in the league. They sold another of their strikers, this time Samuel Eto'o to Milan for £34 million and only managed to get Kevin Doyle as a replacement. They have only won 3 games so far this season and are only 2 points behind Blackburn. Liverpool have been surprisingly bad in the first half of this season and see themselves down in 10th place despite splashing the cash on 2 massive transfer during the summer: Francesc Fabregas from Portsmouth for £28 million and Daniel Alves from Sunderland for £27 million. Their defence is pretty solid though and they are conceding less goals than teams well above them but, they're another team that is struggling when it comes to finding the net themselves. Their best striker is unhappy and thinks the club is underachieving and they sold one of the world's greatest talents Bojan to Sao Paulo or £11.5 million over the summer. West Ham United were 2nd in the table 4 games in to the season and couldn't hold on to their position like they did last season. They have dropped points and lost games they could have won. The league is very close though and although they are 9th in the table, they are only 3 points away from Arsenal in 5th. Newcastle United were joint top scorers this time last year but could not repeat the same again. They are level on points with West Ham and only goal difference is seperating them at the moment. Newcastle had a strong start, but there form dipped and they lost a few places. Over the summer they brought in Nemanja Vidic and Iker Casillas to strengthen their defensive line and make them more solid at the back. It doesn't seem to have payed off though as the club has a negative goal difference and only 3 teams have conceded more than them in the league. Recently promoted Fulham have made an impressive start to their first season in the top flight as they hold a very respectable 7th place in the league. They gambled over the summer and didn't deide to strengthen their team greatly and it has worked. The players play well as a team and play some good football when they get going. Wigan Athletic have only found their form in the last couple of weeks as they were in the bottom 3 for the first 17 games of the season. They then won a couple of games on the bouce though and moved up a few places, to 6th in the league. They sold a 3 of their main players to Manchester City in the summer, including Kaka, but have invested well and brought in some young fresh talent like Geovanni dos Santon from Sunderland for £12.25 million. Arsenal have once again had a very inconsistent start to the season and have been as high as 1st and as low as 10th. They finally stopped around the middle and hold 5th place at the moment. They are winning enough games but they lose way too many as well, they didn't bring in any defenders during the summer so maybe it is a position they will be looking to strengthen this time around. Last years runners up Chelsea have again made a bright start to the season as they have settled for 4th position for most of the season so far and have been there for the last 15 games in a row. They are currently 4 points behind Portsmouth in 3rd and 6 points behind Manchester City in the final Champions League spot. Chelsea spent £32.5 million over the summer and didn't sell any players from their first team, making the team very strong and easy to backup if there is any unfortunate injuries. Ridleys First Division Newly promoted AC Milan were the quickest out of the blocks in this years First Division. They lead the table by 3 points and have been top for nearly 10 games now. They also released 26 players over the summer, including some of their all time greats like Cafu and Serginho. They brought in a few players like Samuel Eto'o, Alberto Zapater and Gareth Bale for a total of £70 million to strengthen their team and they are doing very well. Tottenham are in second place and have made an even better start than they did last year, where they were in 4th position at this stage. They were top for a short period of time but they couldn't cope with the pressure put on them by Milan and they lost their position and dropped down a place, allowing Milan to overtake them. Manchester United were relegated from the Ridleys Premier Division last year and are looking to get promoted straight back up again. They are level on points with Tottenham and are 3 points behind leaders AC Milan. Manchester United were also top of the league for a short period but also couldn't maintain it, just like Tottenham couldn't. They brought in some decent youngsters over the summer, including Gerard Pique and Scott Sinclair from Portsmouth. If they can bring in some good players in the January Transfer Window, I think they have a very good chance of catching AC Milan. Aston Villa are in a close 3rd position and are just 3 points behind both Manchester United and Tottenham. The top 4 are really starting to open up a gap between the other clubs in the division as Aston Villa are 7 points in front of the team that are 5th. Aston Villa didn't really do much in the Summer Transfer Window as they pretty much wasted £14 million on Eidur Gudjohnson who is now 30 years old. Reading are the lowest of all our teams as they are 9th place in the First Division. They have the worst goal difference in the league and have won only 4 games. Luckily they are 4 points away from Sao Paulo who are 10th but they will have to improve to get out of the relegation playoff. They spent £34 million over the summer on average players, but they couldn't attract the interest of any star players. Despite becoming the 3rd richest team in the world Birmingham City are 8th in the table and no other team has lost more games than them. They only have 4 points from 11 away games, making them the worst team in the league away from home. Maybe selling half of there team was a bad idea, although the money that they have could attract some decent players in January. This time last season Birmingham were high flying in 3rd position but this season has been a big change as they are 3rd from bottom. Everton are 7th in the league and 2 points in front of Birmingham. They were on the back of the highest defeat when they lost 4 - 0 against Manchester United on the first day of the season. They also went 3 games without scoring a goal. Unbelievably they are the only team in the league, not to win an away game, although they have a better away record than 5 teams as they have drawn 7 of their 10 away games. Middlesbrough are in 5th place, but they are 7 points behind Aston Villa in 4th. They sold 2 of their highest prosects over the summer: Nani and Gonzalo Higuain for a total of £25.5 million but they also brought in some fresh talent like Nedum Onouha and Abou Diaby. They have been mid table for most of the season and will need to find a new goalscorer if they want to improve on their position. Ridleys Second Division Newly promoted Juventus have made a surprise start to the season as they find themselves top of the table by a solid 5 points. Their defence is very solid and they have only conceded 11 goals so far. Lyon were top of the table for a short stage but lost form and moved down as far as 5th in the league. They then improved in form and have moved back up to second in the league. Inter are 1 point behind Lyon. They have scored the most goals in the leagues and occupy 3rd place in the league. Boca take up the final playoff position and are 5 points in front of Shakhtar in 5th place. Rangers who were relegated last year are bottom once again and look doomed to relegation again as they are 9 points behind Dortmund who are in the relegation playoff spot. Ridleys Third Division Porto lead the Third division by 5 points and are top scorers with 37 goals from 20 games. Roma are in 2nd place and are 5 points behind the leaders. They have the best defensive record in the league and have a good goal difference. Valencia are in 3rd and are 3 points behind Roma. They have a negative goal difference and have lost 8 games out of 20! They are very lucky to be where they are in the league. Real Madrid are in 4th place and occupy the last playoff position. They are only 1 point behind Valencia and have a much better goal difference which could see them move up to 3rd podition in the near future. Leverkrusen are bottom of the Third division but they are lucky that no teams get relegated from the Third Division. Other competitions Champions League Both Chelsea and Sunderland have made it through to the First Knockout Round of this year's competition. Chelsea will be playing Sporting CP and Sunderland are going to be playing AS Saint-Etienne. Euro Cup Wigan and West Ham were qualifiers through the league for the competition and have both made it through to the Second Knockout Round draw. Manchester City have also made it to the Second Knockout Round draw as they qualified through the Euro Vase. Wigan or Gretna will be playing against West Ham or Besiktas and Southampton or Mallorca will be playing against Manchester City or Hertha BSC. Club World Championship Chelsea were brilliant in this year's Club World Championship as they won the tournament easily as they thrashed Saitama United in the final 5 - 0. They were also top scorers in the competition. Ridleys FA Cup Just like last year their is only one non-league team in the FA Cup, but they also haven't faced a league opponent. They will be facing Wigan Athletic in the next round. Ridleys League Cup Portsmouth are the only Premier Division team to remain in the competition and they will be playing Boca in the semi finals. The other semi final is between Marseille and Aston Villa. Ridleys Challenge Cup Third Division side Valencia were this years winner of the Challenge Cup as they ovvercame Boca in the final and won 1 - 0. Awards World Footballer of the Year 1. Ridleys
February 2008 - The BIG Seasonal Transfer Roundup Both transfer windows this season were fantastic, with players moving everywhere. I have to say that the clubs with higher reputations seem to thrive on the Transfer Window and clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal have brought in a few massive players. Fulham spent just £10 million but only brought in 5 players. Portsmouth made the most money by selling players as they got a record £176 million for the 10 players they sold for cash. That's £17.6 million per player they sold on average! Derby County and Birmingham City were the other 2 clubs that managed to make over £100 million from selling players. Chelsea were the only team to not recieve any money from selling/releasing players, meaning that they made the highest loss of money at - £69 million. Manchester City were close behind Chelsea in the highest amount of money lost rankings as they lost a total of £65.5 million. Ridleys
End of Season update 2008/09 Ridleys Premier Division Sunderland and Chelsea were once again the 2 main title contenders just like last season. Chelsea had an average start to the season but their excellent form, going unbeaten in their final 14 games, moving them up to 2nd place, the same position as last year. Sunderland once again win the Premier Division, by a gap of 7 points, they were top goalscorers in the league, and their 2 strikers, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Didier Drogba were fantastic finishing 1st and 2nd in the top goalscorer stats. Manchester City were in 3rd place, although they ended up 7 points off Chelsea in 2nd and 14 points behind Sunderland in 1st place. They were 2nd place for a lot of the season, but with Chelsea's fantastic form towars the end, they slipped up and lost 2nd place with 4 games to go. Derby had a poor season last season, finishing in 10th place, 2 places off the relegation spot. This season has been even worse though as they were only off the bottom for 12 games out of 38. They finished bottom by just one point in the end and didn't lose as many games as the team above them. They conceded the most goals though, and they will need to strengthen their defence if they want to get promoted back to the Premier Division next year. Blackburn were lucky to stay up this season as they finished just one point in front of Derby. They lost the most games in the league but they won one more game than Derby which helped them stay up in the end. West Ham have had a totally different season this time. They were flying high in 4th place last season, and they sealed a European place. This season they have struggled though and end in 10th place. They drew too many games and found it hard to score which was probably the main reason. Wigan were another team who were high flying this time last season, but just like West Ham they didn't perform very well this season, finishing in 9th place, just 2 points in front of West Ham. Liverpool have confused me this season. They finished in 8th place but somehow qualified for the Euro Vase, without winning any tournaments. If somebody could explain how this happened I would be very grateful. Anyway, they scored the lowest amount of goals in the league, but their defence played well too make up for it. Newcastle have once again had an average season, finishing in the same place again. They were very inconsistent and were top for a few games at the beginning of the season, as well as near the bottom for a few games. Fulham were promoted from the First Division last season and have had a very solid first season in the top filght. With a few good signings they could be challengers for the title in future seasons. They will especially need to strengthen their defence as they conceded way too many goals, especially for a top half team. Portsmouth, my team, have had an outstanding season although they require some new defenders, just like Fulham. They have qualified for the Euro Cup, although with their form in the first half of the season, they could have finished in the top 3 easily. Arsenal were unluucky to only come 4th in the league. Their team was struck with many injuries and they had to bring in some reserves to play, which wasn't easy. As their layers started to come back from injury though their form piked up and they finished in 4th. Team Stats Player Stats Team of the Year Players' Player of the Year Football Writers' Player of the Year Young Player of the Year Top Goalscorer Summary Ridleys First Division Aston Villa were this years winners of the First Division, winning by goal diference over AC Milan who were 2nd. I thought that AC Milan would win the league but Aston Villa kept up the pressure and snatched the title on the final day of the season. Manchester United were relegated from the Premier Division last season and didn't manage to do enough to go straight back up, they were 3rd place for most of the season and didn't have the right amount of momentum to push them up just 2 more places. In the end they were 8 points behind Aston Villa and AC Milan in 1st and 2nd. Tottenham have had another good season, but once again have come close to promotion but not close enough. They didn't score enough goals and conceded to many, although their form was fairly consistent throughout the season. Birmingham have become the first team to drop out of the first 2 divisions, since the league was founded 2 seasons ago. They didn't finish last place but couldn't do enough to stay up and lost out in the relegation playoffs. Sao Paulo finished bottom by 13 points, but Birmingham were 4 points away from getting out of the relegation playoffs. Bolton did well last season, but just like a few teams in the Premier Division, they haven't been able to do well in the second season. They finished 4 points clear of the relegation spots, despite having the second worst goals difference in the league and conceding the second highest amount of goals. Reading finished one point in front of Bolton although they lost more games and scored less goals. They were in 9th place half way through the season, but their form at the end of the season took them above both Bolton and Birmingham. Middlesbrough have made a slight imrovement to last year and have moved up to mid table in 6th position. They stayed around the same position for the whole season, going no lower than 6th but as high as 3rd for a game. Everton have had a similair season to last, finishing 1 place above what they finished last season. They started off poorly but they made steady imrovements towards the end of the season to move up to 5th place. GazTheDoood
Another awesome season. Pity about the defeat in the champions league final, or else we would have been in for a famous treble. Same for next season please Looks like Zlatan was an inspired choice along with Drogba

Walcott\'s Wonderkids
West Ham not didn't do as well this season! Probably because my stupid manager sold Vidic and Joaquin!! Still, my core team is pretty decent - just need a couple of decent buys over the summer and I should be back in the top half again. Great update, KUTGW
