SanTullo
Hellas Verona had just managed to escape relegation to the cadetteria (Serie B), via the newly implemented relegation play-off rule. A societa (club) known for it's wild and vocal ultras, and it's miracle scudetto (Serie A winners shield) of the 84-85 campionato (championship). In recent years, since returning to the top-flight in the 2019-2020 campionato, I Gialloblu (the yellow blues) having place higher than expected, and have managed to survive a couple relegation scraps. A squad with a quick turn around, as the societa never hesitates to sell players on for a profit. A keen follower of Italian football would surely know some of the names of the players sold. Here is a short list; Sofyan Armabat, Amir Rrahmani, Mattia Zaccagni, Ivan Ilic, Giovanni Simone, Destiny Udogie, Antonin Barak, Matteo Lovato, and Marash Kumbulla. Now that would be quite a strong squad...tipped for relegation once again can l Butei (Veronese dialect for the boys, or Ragazzi in italian) beat the drop, and manage to hold onto their strong players? And the manager to lead Gli Scaligeri (Old noble family of verona) will be none other than Timoteo Parchi... A pseudonym of our author of course. Will Il Mister (The manager) opt for an English style 4-4-2, or a more typical Italian style 3-5-2. Find out in a few weeks time, as we take part in A Season with Verona. Ci vediamo a dopo! Just as Tim Parks educated the reader on Italian, and Veronese football culture. I too will write in this style, and everyone can learn some more about Calcio! And if you haven't read his book yet, It is highly recommended for any lover of football. Edited October 7, 2023 by SanTullo
